mattj
Advice for keeping baby frogs alive: We recently began hatching baby frogs in a pen made of Dino doors in maybe 10ft of water in that pond in the redwoods which is one of our bases. Our first hatch swam around faster than we expected so it starved before we could get to it. Our second egg hatched twins. We got to them both in time. Fed them. Turned wander off. Whistles them to stop following us. And set them on passive. But one of the twins almost immediately swam up a ramp and died at the surface. The other lived for a full day just sitting there, got to juvenile. But when we logged back on it had died too with nothing in our tribe logs. We’re obviously doing something wrong. But the wiki, dododex, and “ark baby beelzebufo help” google searches have turned up nothing useful. Do any of you have advice about how to keep these damn things alive to maturation? Aylana314159
If they are too close to the ground (ocean floor) they will not eat. I had some starve this way. Also breeders say placement in water required for mating, even through they were in water. I suggest a completely enclosed underwater box for them. That way they cannot escape. mattj
What do you guys think about a 2x3 foundation with regular walls on the side, ceiling under water and Dino gate in front? Might that be big enough?

I suggest keeping the breeders in the box also, but that's upto you. Dino gates are 4 stories. That could work. But i would be weary of accidental door opening instead of claiming a baby. I tend to build air-lock type structures (think space ship). That way babies have to escape two chambers to get all the way out.
mattj
Yeah that’s exactly how the first hatch got away from us. Went to claim it and opened the door. I’ll do 2 or 3 dino doors this time. Or hell, a 2x4 wall is cheap. I’ll just wall them in with trap doors in the ceiling for us to get in and out.
Aylana314159
I would do a 2x3 or bigger as main room. Then a 2x2 airlock to outside. 4 high walls and double gates.
caleb68
this is my water dino breeding pen - its abit bigger then what most are saying here but its done that way so that I don't have to rebuild for larger dinos. its built in the bay of herbivore island (north side of island). https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197979846419/screenshot/790857697384009580
mattj
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7K685FW4AUUg6W?format=jpg&name=large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7K685FWsAAKoce?format=jpg&name=large This is the design we’ve got right now. The water depth worked out perfectly where the inside is 100% full of water but you can easily swim onto the roof where it’s dry enough to land a bird. 2x4 foundations. 2 high walls. Extra Dino gates in front in case the tadpole somehow wriggles to the very front (we’re gonna throw up thatch to keep the mating frogs in the very back so the egg is laid back there). Storage for scuba tanks in the back of the roof. A feeding trough in the center of the roof for when it’s a juvenile. Torches so we can see at night. One improvement is I need to replace the ceiling with glass to help visibility. And I need to figure something out to prevent piranhas from getting close. Probably a set of gates or walls a foundation out from the pen. We do have a ton of aggressive dinos harvesting fish 24/7. Any other suggestions? Any other suggestions? not sure if plat species X will kill piranhas or not but if so you could put some planters on the sides with them in it to keep them at bay, setting them to hostile after baby is claimed. another thought would be velon in turret mode they work wonders but again you'd want them neutral till you claim the baby. only other suggestion would be build a secondary wall layer on the outside of pen so piranhas can't bite through the wall into the pen. mattj
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7OI-koVUAE7fjd?format=jpg&name=large Progress pics. Added another foundation thick layer around the pen in case piranhas spawn in nearby before our patrolling dinos can get to them. Changed the ceiling to glass, which HOLY COW is 100 times better. The visibility inside the pen is great now even at night because of the torches. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll let y’all know how it works this weekend. ishootpaint
Gonna try some frogs when I get our water breeding facility done. Mostly for mosas but im going to build a smaller area for frogs once i get the ceiling on.
mattj
SUCCESS! Hatched and raised 2. They didn’t inherit all the stats we wanted but now we have a safe place to work on that! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7g7KMRV4AA8Rx7?format=jpg&name=large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7g7KMzVsAELS_4?format=jpg&name=large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7g7KMQVUAACqnm?format=jpg&name=large
