I recently got into survival open world games and I'm hoping that it is similar to titles on STEAM like "Rust". d1nk Posted December 24, 2018 Share Posted December 24, 2018 Welcome Get a bed down ASAP. After you make your tools kill moschops, dodos, lystrosaurus for easy hide for the bed. Some tips, play the game a bit on your own, to see how the mechanics and how the game works, most tribes want you to be at least somewhat self-sufficient. Also don't worry too much about taming just focus on your character at first, then worry about taming the beasts of ARK. hope that helps, and good luck! If this is the case decide whether you want to go for an official or official small tribes character as you cannot transfer between the two. Might even be worth spending some time on a boosted unofficial to get a hang on the game and mechanics. Fun getting a ready to go metal base in a single drop. There are great youtubers such as muntage gaming, six shadows, h.o.d gaming, uncle apex and kishko who's videos will help you get a hang on some things such as building and raiding tips. Expect mishaps technical or otherwise and prepare to recovery plan for them... also find people to have fun with and don't play alone you do not have the time to do it all while maintaining job, family and social normalcy in the real world. Anarki Posted December 24, 2018 Share Posted December 24, 2018 Its a fun game once you have gained patience playing it. You will die a lot at first but that is purely ARK. It all sounds stupid, but yes, punch trees, pick up stones (as you will have in your Rust days etc) and get yourself a foundation and a bed. Once you have this you can spawn back in to where you died and can then start to build your hut Make friends on the server as they are usually more than accommodating to new comers as they have been there themselves. Marinb11 Posted December 24, 2018 Share Posted December 24, 2018 It's really important to know which tools to use to get which materials.... pickaxe=flint/thatch/meat/metal hatchet=stone/wood/hide also hatchet does more dmg just so you know... pyxistre Posted December 24, 2018 Share Posted December 24, 2018 Spears are useful early-game for some damage output, and they're great at fending off giant bugs (titanomyra drones).
