Understanding structure decay

Hiall,

 

I would like to understand structure decay and autodestroy timers. What is the difference between decay and detroy? Are the settings different between pvp and pve?

I would like to adjust my server settings to have structures decay turned on, because savefiles are getting huge, and server is slowing down. However, I would like to have the settings set to something relaxed, so that people can log back after 7 days and still find their base there. Here is my current attempt:

Decay means it becomes available for manual destruction by any player after X amount of time of inactivity, where destroy means the structure is automatically destroyed.
So in your case, you could set the decay up to something reasonable, so that if possibly abandoned bases get in anyone's way, they can get rid of them themselves, but put destroy on a longer timer so that if the base bothers no one, the owner has more time to return before everything goes poof.
