Best way to get drake eggs?

Depends on if your solo or part of a group I would imagine. My favourite technique solo for the first drake egg is to go down ridding a spino with a squad of megalos in tow, think I did it with a spino and 6 or 7 megalos. The spino as a main mount to protect you from the nastys such as purlovia and athros, and the megalos for their sheer power. Theres about 3 nests which are accessible without taking taking the dinos into the main trench where you cant get them out again. Get up to one of the nests by climbing pick, grab an egg and get back to your spino and fight for your life against the angry drake hoard, the megalos should be able to deal with the mass of drakes but its definetly risky. You should hopefully be able to get 3 eggs if your lucky and all 3 nests spawn and if you can widthstand grabbing multiple eggs.

Would this work with spinos instead of megalos? I already have a few spare spinos from breeding and I only have 1 megalo

I did it once with just spinos. Although I would hate to drag down a massive pack of spinos after me. First time I ever did an egg run I went down with a friend, both of us went down with a spino and we took a spare spino for the mate boost, so we had 3 spinos in total. We got down fine and somehow managed to get a few eggs. We did lose the spare spino to pathing issues into the Elemental river on the way back up however, but it worked. I guess it depends on how the spinos hold up against the waves of drakes, if the spinos are imprinted and have a good saddle itll help out a lot.

All th spinos have good stats and are imprinted. They only have primitive saddles though. And how well do they follow you down? It was a nightmare for me just to take them up and down spino river to level them up.

Saddle quality probably wont be much of an issue then, think we used primitive and they werent the highest of levels. With the single spino on follow it was a bit of a nightmare, hence me losing the spino to the Elemental river, I found it much easier dragging 7 megalos down on follow to a spino, think its easier because of the megalos smaller size. Really do have to keep a real close eye on the followed tames though. Just got to be really carefully on parts of the walkway down, one wrong move and the dino falls of the cliff and all the way down to the river.

If you have a friend crabs are the way to do it. Have one of you carry the other, crab does the jumpy jumps, someone snatches the egg and then gets carried to safety. It's only going to allow you to get one egg at a time, but it's about the only way to do it without high quality gear or a ton of disposable dinos.

It is possible to get a reaper before getting your first drake, if you already have a reaper with 20+ health and 500+ melee that is probably the best thing for getting drake eggs. You can tank through the swarms that would normally overpower anything else, and you can hop nest to nest eating or taking eggs that you need. I've taken a 15k+ health spino 400+mel down to grab my first egg with climbing picks but you have to be very fast with getting out. I've also used drakes to get drake eggs but they aren't good with tanking, so the most you will come out with there is maybe 3 or 4 eggs not always high level. So as of now, I can say your best bet is getting a reaper before you get a drake, as clearing the drake den is the easiest thing to do after you have one. I jump into the drake pit from green using my reaper and climb back out to blue using two primitive rad suits. I bring back two rows of 170+ eggs from one run, I hope this helps.

Yeeah. If you let it get through your head and not be careful, your reaper will also die by a horde of angry drake parents, even with that stat. I nearly lost mine even without charge light effect on it.

Huh. Shouldn't you be worried about nameless that could emerge around and could potentially call a Reaper King if left there for too long with too many nameless?

Nah not worried at all. As far as I know nameless only spawn in response to players so I can leave tames unatended with out nameless spawning. Got the megalo squad in the main trench anchored to a passive spino, they have been down there for a few weeks now with out any issues.Any stray willd drakes get shredded instantly. All I need to do is jump in and out of the trench on my drake.

I may be taking the fun out of this but the easiest way to get an egg is to buy one. Assuming your not on single player just ask around in chat. I am sure someone will trade one to you for cheap. AB has been out for a long time, most people have drakes and at any given time of day or night ppl will be in the trench farming eggs. Just ask someone to swing by your base and drop one off. When I am egg farming I go through 20-30 eggs a trip and maybe bring 5-6 of those back to base, the rest get eaten or given out to new ppl. So it isn't really a problem for someone to hook you up with low lvl eggs.

A reaper is the best way to do it. 25k health is enough with 600 melee. I do full clears and carry as many as possible with 1 reaper. Its a long trip up but i put a tp as close as possible. A drake is also usefull if your doing single picks. Ive done full clears with a good drake but a reaper is so much better. Doesnt even loose half its health going back and fourth through the trench untill full with 170+. If you have  2 people mate boosted drakes are great. I could also come to your server and escort you on a drake run. I have drakes to lend that are up to the job. Pm me if your interested.

I would imagine it depends on the game mode or server. I can make it into the trench from mushroom in about 30 seconds and make it back out of the trench to mushroom in about lets say 2 to 3 minutes on my drake ? With my megalo squad already in the trench I am only limited by the weight of the eggs I can carry and/or durability of my hazard, health isnt an issue on my rock drake unless I get a bit cocky on my drake, megalos take care of everything. Although I guess obviously this setup wouldnt work on every server especially busy ones, not everyone could leave big packs of dinos there on a busy server.

For anyone attempting I do not recommend single picking with only a rock drake, its not worth the risk/reward.

Really do need to try raising a reaper at some point lol.

Do what I did when the game first came out and get eggs with nothing but a glider ;)
Simply glide down to the eggs use climbing picks to get to a high nest with a good level egg (while avoiding those nasty wild rock drakes and namelss), then grab the egg and casually glide out of the rock drake trenches onto that giant metal spine thing and climb to freedom. Easy peasy.... Well atleast in theory took me like 4 or 5 tries to get one egg.

Pro tip - once you get a rock drake of any level only level stam and you can get as many eggs as you want with it. Simply go invis and find a high level egg then grab it and glide faaaaaar away with your low, or high, level rock drake. As long as you dont DC or something like that you should have a 80% success rate.

I had a few packs of megalos in the trench, once i got a reaper i put them on passive so they would die. The only way to be time efficient is to have 3 packs, one for each portion of the trench. Which i dont think is worth the effort involved in raising them. The megalos birthed at 11k 414 and i still think my drake with 10k hp and 815 damage is eons better then a pack of megalos, and the reaper is way better then them at 25k hp and 600+ md.

Warfire is right about that tactic^^^^ you wont have an issue picking single eggs on a drake with stam.

Everyone is a little different and that's fine. Not every method works for every person. But I have found going solo with only one rock drake to be the easiest way to collect eggs. True it took me 3-4 drakes getting pwnd before I figured out the tricks needed to solo the trench, but once that was done it was smooth sailing. So I guess the best advice is to do it the way that makes the most sense to you. Your idea or risk vs reward is no doubt different than mine so only you can decide what makes something worth it or not. For my money getting from green zone to the trench with a mob of dinos in tow is a logistical nightmare. I lost a high lvl mega and spino because they walked right off the edge of the cliff and fell into element. Lost another spino which also walked off a cliff into the drake trench. You also need to consider what your goals are. If you just want a drake to have one then you really only have to make one trip. If your crazy like me and wont stop until you get a fleet of lvl 190 drakes in every color then you will be making several trips every day for months. So in my case solo runs were the best option and since I was raising drakes each weekend it was no biggie if a run went sour and I lost one or two(really I was more upset about having to make more rad suits).    GL

Thing is that Megalosaurus does a lot of damage. Rock Drakes are primarily meant for transport within the subterranean ground of Aberration. Be mindful that Reaper King do not have the mate boost benefit unlike Megalosaurus even if they have the natural resistance in the absence of charge light.

My tribe often go on an egg hunt with several manned-mounted mega and one person picking eggs with a drake. Often results in a blood bath.
And I tried a solo reaper before, not worth the effort either <_<"

Huh. Several nameless appeared and attacked an aggressive megalosaurus pack from an online tribe when I was picking on eggs. Got no idea what happened to them thereafter though.

LOL I can say that that WILL happen if your not careful with it, I usually only stay down there without a friend on my reaper just before it hits about 30% health if I even stay down there that long to reach that point to begin with. I have only ever lost one reaper in the den and it was only because on my way out of the larger den, a drake ground pounded me out of the air and tagged me into a hole that my reaper couldn't get out of the fall cycle in. So I had to sit there for a good 40 minutes while endless drakes in intervals of 5 spawned on my stuck reaper till it died.

I don't know the "best" way but a way that worked for my tribe was there were 2 of us down there. One person killed off the low lvls and took the low eggs forcing all of them out of the trench. We kinda just kept the good lvls in the trench and ran around until their eggs spawned. Sometimes we had to kill everything tho if you couldn't get them off your tail. Drakes are relentless mofos when you have their eggs. We would bail for a bit and take the eggs back to base when our drakes hit 1.5k hp.

Yeah best bit about megalos are that they are small and compact yet powerful so can dish out alot of damage on a smaller area. Bunch them together on a larger target like a drake and thats alot of damage.

Yeah for my first drake egg pick this server I went in with a spino and 6 megalos. It was a bit dodgey lol nearly lost the spino.

Huh weird. Only time I have had nameless spawn on me down in the trench with the megalos is when my glowpet runs out. I can leave them out of range of my glowpet when nicking eggs and no nameless spawn. The megalo pack has been down there for maybe about 2 weeks now with out any issues such as spawning nameless and therefore reapet kings.
