RTX 2080 BSOD in Ark

This is not a CPU dependent issue. It is an RTX issue. I have a 1080Ti that works great.

I have an AMD Threadripper and I get the same crash and BSOD only with an RTX. I am getting crashes in the ADK also.

The main error is a Unreal Engine 4.5 memory call that the Nvidia driver is failing to handle when and RTX card is used. The driver times out and restarts. Ark or the ADK crashes. Windows gives a BSOD.

I have sent my error logs from Ark and the ADK to Nvidia to help them identify the issue. I should be hearing from my rep on Monday. Hopefully they will get a working driver out to us soon.

On an interesting note,

Extinction, Aberration and Scorched play fine. The Island, The Center, Ragnarok and any other map that uses TruSky and the weather system from The Island or Ragnarok is what makes the call that is crashing Ark, Ark Dev Kit and Windows.

This is from the Ark Dev Kit at the time of a crash running an RTX 2080 Ti:

I strongly believe it has to do with threads running and the main thread crashes, because even on my 1080TI, I have seen an exception appear on the screen and it only BSOD after I close the exception down.

And it gels with the description of what the net says is cause of this error as well.

I have seen it on all the official maps and Ragnarok.

Its not just an RTX issue. I have a GTX 1080 and I get the exact same BSOD when ARK crashes. Driver 417.01.

Uninstall the 417 driver and install the 399 driver. This should fix your issue.

Try going into Safe Mode and use Display Driver Uninstaller DDU to remove and install the new driver. Make sure you disconnect your computer from the internet when you reboot to install the new driver or Windows will try to install a different version driver and that can also cause issues.

If you are getting a BSOD or Ark crash on every official map try validating your game files.

I have run my 1080 Ti and a 1060 6 GB for weeks with no BSOD on many Ark maps. On my RTX 2080 Ti I get a BSOD within 5 minutes.  I get the error "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." right before the BSOD occurs. This is 100% reliable with the RTX. Not the GTX. Nvidia is aware of the cause and is working on fixing it.

On the RTX 2080 Ti my Windows 10 Pro system will get a BSOD every 5 MINUTES running Ark on any map the uses TrySky and has a global weather system.

Ark is unplayable. Not an inconvenience.

On my GTX 1080 Ti and my GTX 1060 (both running 417.01) I have yet to have a BSOD and I have only had 1 Ark crash in 2 days. That crash was a server timeout and "Render Failed to Release Resource". This is a very different issue.

Doesn't do jack.

I built a complete brand new system, 1080TI and I still get the BSOD. Admittedly I only get it once a month, but I still get it. And nothing in here has helped at all.

Well good for you, because plenty of people are getting this BSOD on the 1080TI.

Yes. Yeah for me. My primary Dev system that has the RTX gets a BSOD every 5 minutes when I try to run Ark.

This is preventing me from making progress on my map. If I still had the 1080 Ti I would use it and send the RTX back for a refund. The 1060 works but doesn't have the memory for the map making.

Is anyone having a problem with Nvidia drivers(newest one) where the game just randomly locks up and i have to reboot my computer since it wont let me alt tab to close out the program?

1070.

Right before it freezes it does a little freeze, .3second unfreezes then freezes for good.

Yes.

This happens all the time right before the Device Lost error pops up and it can freeze for around 5 minutes before it crashes, I should also point out that this is what it does for me right before it does this BSOD as well.
