How are we feeling about the new kings harvest event?

Evolution Events are supposed to be a special bonus we run during an allotted time period which can affect servers in different ways. Initially, when we first started hosting them, they primarily occurred around sales or patches. Eventually, they became more common and we started to introduce additional options to them (breeding, maturation, etc). We've recently stated that we felt like we were overzealous in 2017 with regards to how we managed these Evolution Events. We decided that we wanted to introduce some new settings into the mix and play around with new options for our Official Servers. This means you may see more unique events like Harvest King, or perhaps something related to crafting, or fishing, there are some options available and at this point, we're still experimenting.

I understand that some of you may think that this event should have been a Mother's Day one, and that's understandable. However, the timing of the Kings Harvest is a sheer coincidence and we're going to continue to look into hosting events with more variety. Perhaps it ends up that we'll keep up the frequency of 2017, except you'll just see different ones occurring over the weekend as opposed to the standard 2x Harvest/Taming/XP. That doesn't mean that we'll stop hosting taming, or even the rare breeding events, we just want to explore new ground. The team are always going to try and warn you in advance of events, as well as what they may be. Kings Harvest is our first, of hopefully many unique ones. We're open to hearing more suggestions regarding Evolution Event ideas, that go beyond the standard taming and breeding.

As for the comments regarding the name, it's literally just to give it an event. So if you see a post saying that King Harvest is coming, you'll know it has to gathering, farming, and possibly custom cooking recipes.

Hopefully you can take the criticism and complains of what you’re seeing on social media outlets and do something to better appease your customer base. Because this event has clearly missed the mark for many.

For those that only play on unofficial commenting here, I find it humorous your continued rants and blathering about why we’re entitled. Perhaps it’s more about what we want as customers versus entitlement?  I mean, at the end of the day we are a portion the ones keeping the lights on at Wildcard.

The way I see these Evo Events are as ways for WildCard to showcase different aspects of the game. Initially (and perhaps for too long) the Events were focused on breeding/taming dinos. This current Event is showcasing farming and cooking. A future Event might focus on building, with reduced materials or weight of structures (as an example).

In the almost 2,000 hours I have played Ark, I have never crafted a custom food or drink recipe. This event (and some of the posts in this thread) have got me interested in the possibilities custom recipes offer, so even though I'm on a private unofficial server, I'll be looking at custom recipes this weekend. I'd say that was a success for the Event!

Not wanting to turn this thread into an "official-v-unofficial" thread, but as far as I'm aware, those playing on official servers are only a drain on WildCard's resources, and in no way "keep the lights on". If WildCard were to turn the official servers off tomorrow (which they are quite entitled to do - there is nothing requiring them to supply the hardware to run the server files), it would drastically reduce their monthly spending, with next to zero impact on their income. All the current official players have already purchased the game, and new players would see only unofficial servers available, and assume that was the "norm". I don't deny there will be negative press over this, but that would soon recede. Long story short - don't assume WildCard owe you anything, just because you play on a server they provide for you free of charge.

About time they shoke up the event, not nessesarily the most useful event but it sounds like an interesting idea. The same old evo event gets boring after a while.

yeah, it is nice that its different but they could have done something at least not demeaning to women. Theyre just putting steryotypes on moms and is just sexist.

i think instead they should have increased taming for certain creatures, or done something really cool like 10x evrything just for the weekend, or even pve on pvp servers and pvp on pve servers.

im just trying to say there were many other things they could have done, and it would definitely offend less people

Thing is, although I host my own private cluster, I’m really interested in the upcoming specialty servers because it saves money for another server and the time and effort to advertise it.

My cluster will always be there to play as and when I like, so if the speciality servers include evo events, then I have every right to include myself with the discussions. Besides, these are the community forums so I’m free to comment as I please whether people like/appreciate my comments or not.

Also, there’s no stopping my community from banding together and forming an official tribe if we choose to, and other people may still play official as well as my servers anyway.

It’s people own conceived perception of an event that has no bearing on what they feel they have taken offence to, that is the problem here.

Where was the outrage for Wildcard not doing a specialised event for Mother’s day for countries that celebrate it on a different date in the year?

“Only 1.5x breeding? This is a disgrace. The devs are so stingy! Ark will die soon if they carry on like this”

I love Twitter.

We noticed an issue with changing the custom cooking bonus dynamically, and that was the core part of King's Harvest! So we're walking it back for now, as it'll require some additional development work to get it functioning as we need it for the event. We've decided to switch up to 1.5x Harvesting, 1.5x Maturing Rates, and 1.5x Egg Hatching. We're still interested in exploring different options, however, for this weekend it would have been a bust without our additional changes.

Should make an event where all spawns are replaced by equus. Everyone loves equus. People would want to be so mad... But equus are so cute... How can you be mad?

I got tired of online dino feeding so i just play single player for now. As close to official settings as I  can manage as it seems to be the best balance. Evo events don't carry over to single player of course, though i could just adjust the sliders. Would rather just keep it stock for now.

If and when you guys make another odd dino color event, I do hope it can be applied to single player. I miss my red and green Christmas ravanger.

Can we get a thief event or something?

Friday-Monday (or maybe just 1 day) only pegomastax and ichthyornis are spawning. And they can steal already placed structures too. Industrial forge, behemoth gate, the clothes you're wearing, your hair, everything. Also tames, that would solve the tame cap issue for some time.

PvP would be hell. Drop dozens of pegos in someone's base and watch your enemy disappear.

don't take away things that people are depending on,

Why are you depending on a bonus? It's a bonus. It's a special event. if you depend on it then you are not playing the game officially. You should be on an always 2x server. That's why some of us railed on it happening every weekend because it was going to get people dependent on it when from the beginning it was meant to be a special event. Now they are instituting it how it should be and people are having withdraw symptoms. That's on Wildcard but get use to having weekends without anything because that will be the new norm.

It's ridiculous and now they are just trying to save face because they know how pissed we are. So instead of really pissing us off, go back to 2x not this BS 1.5x. What good does that do us for 2 days?

You don't deserve an event. Stop crying and play the game as intended or go to an unofficial since official rates are apparently too hard. :Jerbcry:

Better idea. Double the standard rates i.e. make the evo event rates the standard rates and do away with the regular evo events. Replace them with much rarer events but make them last longer, lets say a week and make them more varied. Make the events a special event and not the norm is what I am trying to say. Let people play the game when they want to play it and not when WC decide to stick a random 2 day event on.

Maybe occasionally do the standard old evo events rates but not every event, but would be interested to see different rate increases. Maybe like increases in loot quality drops or something of the like. Must agree that the harvest one seems a bit odd but nice to see some variety to the events.

With you 100% on this.  For people who don't get much play on the weekends (which is not me) the Evo events don't do much for them anyway.  Also currently the evo events on PvE at least seem to pull down the community cuz everyone starts being cutthroat for tames and metal nodes.

It’s not really about the rates buddy. It’s the consistency, it’s the fact that they are all over the place. They need to make it standard and stick to it. Don’t give us something every weekend for 6+ months and then up and change it with no feedback from the community and then just ignore us.
