Hey Survivors! Welcome to the latest edition of the Community Crunch! :Jerbhi:

The Community Crunch is where we share important things going on with ARK, as well as host contests and showcase creations made by the community!

Code of Conduct Changes!

Today we are announcing our new Code of Conduct for our Official Server network. This Code of Conduct can be found in its entirety at the top of our website under the Support link.

Quote

Code of Conduct

Introduction

The code of conduct is subject to change without notification, though Studio Wildcard will do its best to ensure that changes are communicated clearly to those on the Official Network.

Failure to abide by our code of conduct can result in the removal of your structures, creatures, items or banning of your account from the Official Network and all BattlEye Protected Servers. Studio Wildcard reserves the right to immediately suspend player accounts as it deems fit. Action taken is at the sole and absolute discretion of Studio Wildcard and its employees.

This list is not exhaustive, but represents clear guidelines for players to adhere to when playing on our Official Network. For something you’re unsure of, please use your best judgement. When in doubt, reach out to us at ARKEnforcement@studiowildcard.com. Ensure you’re acting with some semblance of decency when conducting yourself on our Official Network.

Hacking and Exploiting

Hacking and Exploiting

Hacking or exploiting game mechanics to gain an unfair advantage over other players is not tolerated.

> Hacking - examples are not limited to but can include using third-party programs such as ESP, Aimbots, and Game Engine Modifications.

> Exploiting - examples are not limited to but can include attacking and living in unintended game-zones (under the mesh or above the map), duplication of tames, items and characters, unintended building mechanics (such as floating structures, using the world barrier as a snap point), building a box around your quetzal (or other platform creatures) to completely prevent it from taking damage, modifying your game files to remove key graphical components (water, fog, etc), and intentionally crashing users or servers (through DDoS or otherwise).

Benefit Hacking/Exploiting, Tribes, Alliances, and teaming up.

When playing on our Official Network, players must ensure that they are not taking advantage of hacking exploits and unfair play. Do not under any circumstances allow hackers to join your tribe, alliance, or party up alongside you within the game. It is your responsibility to remove them or yourself from the tribe. If you witness someone breaking the rules through the use of a game exploit, or a third party program (such as ESP or AIMBOT) ensure that you isolate yourself from those users and are not playing with or alongside them to avoid breaching our code of conduct.

Hack related chat

There should be no discussions in game or on our official sites regarding hacks, including access to cheats, where you can acquire them, or how they are utilized.

Griefing

Spawn Blocking

Spawn Blocking occurs when tribes intentionally block multiple spawn points for the purpose of not allowing any new players to play on the server (including cross server players). In the event your base inadvertently or accidentally resides on a spawn point you will not be penalized.

Here are some examples of what spawn blocking can consist of, but is not limited to:

  • Using structures that players spawn into and can not get out of

  • Using spikes/spike walls at player spawn locations

  • Turrets located on or near spawn points

  • Dino gates, or any type of structure/cage that is meant to trap or instantly kill a player and prevent them from spawning on the map

  • Aggressive dinos placed near spawn points in order to instantly kill players that spawn in.

PvE Specific Griefing

> Game Blocking - you are not allowed to block other tribes from playing the game on PvE servers. This can include but is not limited to:

  • Building at their base

  • Blocking in other tribes dinos

  • Blocking access in/out of a tribes base

  • Obstructing pathways or waterways for the purpose of denying another tribe access

A GM may ask you to move or relocate if your structure is negatively impacting a server (ie. you block off a large portion of the map so that other members of that server cannot access it).

> Structure Spamming - placing structures down such as pipes or wires for the purpose of disrupting others gameplay is against our code of conduct.

Misconduct

Behaviour, Chat, and Interaction With Others

Interactions with other players or Studio Wildcard employees through text chat, voice chat, and signs or paintings must adhere to the rules below and you cannot use an alternative spelling to circumvent restrictions.

Ensure that you do not:

> Offend - this includes but is not limited to language which is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, sexually explicit, or racially, ethnically or otherwise offensive.

> Post Personal Information - belonging to someone else in game, or any Official websites or forums related to the game.

> Harass, Stalk, Threaten - such as sending repeated unsolicited or unwelcome messages to specific users/tribes and can include but not limited to those sexual in nature or messages that would cause discomfort.

> Disrupt the game - such as intentionally causing the chat screen to scroll faster than other users are able to read, or setting up macros with large amounts of text that, when used, have a disruptive effect on the normal flow of Chat.

> Promote - do not send messages which are advertisements for inappropriate topics, including scamming, hacking, exploits or the sale of goods and services unless trading within the game for game specific resources, for example 50 Stone for 1 Polymer, A trike for a Rex, etc.

Player, Steam and Tribe Names

When choosing your name, steam name, or tribe name you must adhere to general decency and abide by the following rules. If Wildcard determines your name to be improper, we may change the name and or terminate your use of our Official and any BattlEye Protected Servers. You should not use an alternative spelling to circumvent the name restrictions listed below. You should ensure that your name does not:

> Offend - names may not contain vulgar, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise offensive, including any usernames which are sexual in nature.

> Impersonate - pretend to be someone else with intent to impersonate, including, without limitation, another user, tribe, Game Master ("GM") or Studio Wildcard employee.

False Reports

When reporting others, please ensure that you are genuine. Reports made to harass other players or for restricting their gameplay when no codes of conduct have been broken are deemed punishable by Studio Wildcard.

You can increase the effectiveness of your reports by including as much information as possible, as well as video or picture evidence. We never take our decisions and actions regarding potential malicious player behaviour lightly. Suspensions, server wipes, and/or bans are only issued after careful review of all internal and external evidence.

New Incident Reporting System!

In addition to the Code of Conduct changes, we'd like to introduce you to our new reporting system, currently in beta and for PC players only.

https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/incident-reports/

This is our new Incident Reports area. You can find it on the forums by hovering over the Support button at the top of the page and clicking 'Report PC Abuse'. The Customer Support link has been moved to underneath the Help sub-section under Support.

When submitting an Incident Report, please make sure to provide as much information as possible.

large.report.PNG

Here is a sample report. This is how your report will appear to our Game Moderators:

large_jat.PNG

You should provide any and all evidence of the reason you are reporting someone in the form of screenshots and/or videos. Evidence helps our Game Moderators collect proof of someone breaking the rules and allows them to take action more quickly.

While in this beta process we are accepting PC reports only using the Incident Report system. Any and all reports of hacking, exploiting, griefing, and misconduct on Official Servers should be done so through the Incident Report submission process. These changes to the Code of Conduct and our Incident Reporting system are an effort to improve the process of the reporting system and the health of our Official Server network. We look forward to working with survivors to achieve a better playing environment for all players and we thank you for your patience during this growth process.

Console Transfers and TLC 2!

We are now targeting the console patch (Xbox and PS4) release during the week of April 23th and will keep you posted about more accurate release dates once we get closer to the date. This is later than what we reported in our Crunch last week, but we are confident that we will be able to meet the deadline of the week of the 23rd over the previous week. With this update, we'll also be:

- Enabling item transfers and the vanilla-version of aberrant creatures to be moved to Aberration servers. This means that you'll be able to take over your regular Spino to an Aberration server.

- Preventing people from building within the Ragnarok Puzzle cave, so if you store any structures or creatures down there, make use of this time to relocate them ASAP as once this update goes live on console, that will no longer be possible.

It is important to note that the Turret Update will not go live on console with this update, but instead a future one.

ARK: Evolution Event!

evo_event.jpg

Our next Evolution Event will take place from the 20th of April at 1 PM EST until Monday the 23rd at 3 PM EST. All Official Servers will be undergoing this evolutionary change which includes:

2x Harvesting Rate
2x Taming Rate
2x EXP Rate

Wildcard Workshop & Tutorial Contest #4: Spaaaaaace!

Today in the workshop we begin to tackle the topic of Replication, how code functions in a multiplayer environment. We go into a broad overview of the different methods available for replication, and my band of merry modders helps to give some visualization to how this system works. In the next video, we'll dive into some actual practical examples.

Next month, May 4th is Space Day! I could think of no more appropriate a day to focus some mod tutorials around to inspire people to take an interest in math, science, and technology. So our theme for the fourth modding tutorial contest is Space Day Props!

ARK is on Sale for Xbox!

About the turrets, is that PvP only because of shooting down players as they spawn? or is that also reportable in PvE, even though those can't hurt players?

Capture2.PNG

Right, for now, this is a PvP specific rule as it's meant to prevent players from spawn killing others with turrets immediately. In future, you can contact that email in the post for clarification regarding any rules.

And of course they delay it. Another week of waiting. But who knows, maybe they delay it another time.

Yeah I hate waiting for fixes too. Much rather a rushed broken patch.

Can you guys please check out the respawns on single player?, on console at least? My map is pretty much empty and has been for quite awhile. I have heard others are having the same problem. If the respawns are linked to the in-game time at all I would really change that since players all have different settings for their day speed. Please and thank you.

To combat "pillaring" that blocks others from building, why not implement a minimum of 15 components to constitute a structure. The specific number of components ( walls, foundations, pillars and ceilings ) would likely need fine tuning, however I think it may be a good way to prevent this behavior. It would end up being very "cost" prohibitive to build small shacks all over the map to achieve the same result as a pillar with a ladder on it does now.

As this is a code of conduct will it apply to Legacy servers? As the trolling problem is making the game unplayable.

id say move to the new servers off legacy, but they are all at tame cap post easter event... its a C F there OC servers need atleast 2-3 more island and rag servers, as the one that got added was just dumped onto and filled up. the player base is just so concentrated that its become very hard to do anything sadly

"Hacking and Exploiting
Those found to be in breach of the hacking and exploiting rules risk removal of their structures, creatures, items and the banning of your account from the Official Network and all BattlEye Protected Servers."

Unless all major tribes use these hacks/exploits to stay far above the competition. In which case we won't do anything.

> Post Personal Information - belonging to someone else in game, or an any Official websites or forums related to the game.

This wont work, or will work only in a lopsided manner as long as names/chat are not restricted to Aa-Zz, 0-9. OR offical unmodded client starts to support cyrillic/chinese characters.

Not only it goes in the way of identifying offenders but also almost impossible to report other than generic "[][][] of tribe [][] aimbots".

this is utter bs.

you are forcing people to join large tribes on pvp as otherwise they'd be annihilated. your fault for not limiting tribe size or cutting down the alliance numbers. how the heck are we supposed to know if our "teammates" hack when there are so many. without spectator mode, i'd already have reported shroud...still would looking at his pov. and mesh bases...i've personally fought several hackers/meshers and reported them swiftly but the sluggish few weeks/months of detective work on WC side wont get you your gear back. unless you're a big streamer and have your own pocket dev as a fanboy, which most of us dont. besides, it's somewhat impossible to track box-box and 123 players. again, your fault WC.

ffs, there are infinite number of ways to exploit the system. what is sever enough to be reported is beyond me. like, i'd consider bodybags being a serious issue, allowing for no-weight transportation...and everyone does that. i've seen several funny but broken quetzal builds for taming and transporting that can be borderline broken, or not as it was intended for.

inevitably this game will make people quit. still so broken and you wont be compensated when things  do go south, even with video evidence. i so do hate WC for ruining a game that had so much potential.

My only criticism of the code of conduct update is that more proactive (and reactive) applicability to that on the steam forums would be very welcome.  Having people go pages and pages in threads(even being reported for it) calling devs and others pretty vulgar names and insults, spreading intention disinformation, and much worse on a -daily- basis seems to contradict the effort stated above.  I just wish more consistency was put in place in that regard.
