So I was thinking the other day about making one post that summarizes the entire experience of ark to help new ark players. Tell you the tips that have worked for me, what dinos are the best, and which dinos to avoid taming since they are pretty much useless.

So In the beginning you start naked on a beach or some part of the map you chose as you main map. The first thing you should do is obviously make an Axe  and a pick to start building right away a 1x1 house with a bed inside and a small box. (PArts: 1 thatch foundation, thatch 3 walls, 1 thatch doorframe, 1 thatch door, and thatch one ceiling).

After you build that you should immediately start picking berries. At least 400 narco berries and 400 mejo berries to tame your first Trike or Iguanadon. (MAke sure they are around base level 40).

Once you tame your first practical mount which is either the trike or the Iguanadon start hitting trees with it to collect thatch and wood. and make your base foundation at least 50x50. (this is a personal recommendation as you will see that on PVE or PVE official servers claiming land is a must).

Once decent size area tame a couple of dodos(1 male and 3 females). AS they will give you eggs to tame your first flyer. The mighty Pteradon. (It is a solid/cheap mount that will allow you to explore the map quick from day 1).

By now you are probably on hour 5, i would probably make the fence of the 50X50 area  with thatch walls to start making the main body of your main building building. By this point making all of this materials you would have to have leveled up at least to level 20 to 25 so you can probably  call it a rest.

On day two prepare for a grind...a grid to tame a few dinos to jump into the good stuff fast. Dont waste your time taming a lot of low level dinos. Better to tame 2 or 3 that are good than 30 for a kibble farm that you will not need to use much...since there will be a lot of players willing to trade kibbles to tame or things you might need.

First main dinos i recommend taming on day two. 5 dilos (1 male and 4 females). Collect all the eggs while you continue building your base of these dilos!

After that it would be probably best to tame a thyla. Thylas are the most versatile mount on ark. They are easy to tame (even if they are not a kibble tame they are strong enough to take on rexes, carnos, and all predators with the exeption of alpha rexes/gigas. and they are also a strong water mount. They dont breath under water so keep an eye on the oxygen).

once you collect at least 100 eggs from your dilos and the dodos start making your kibble. you will probably be missing the vegetables but if you ask around global chat people will trade you vegetables and if they are kind enough they might give them for you for free...but try not to be a freeloader. Always offer something in return...wood, thatch, or stone.... it is good people know they can trade with you. Forms good relationships.

Try to keep a lot of narcoberries...around 1000 to convert it into narcotics in your mortar and pastel with spoil meat. (things easy to kill when you are low level are dodos, dilos, raptors, and pegomastax for meat, then just leave it in a box spoiling or slit the stacks in the inventory to make them spoil faster).

By the end of day 2 you will probably have enough kibble made to tame one Anky and one doedi. Which are the main dinos for building.

We are going to skip to the end of week one because by this point you probably know how the game works in its basic form. You now understand the kibble making, how to store it to make it last longer, and which dinos you need to make your basic kibble farm.

Also, ask people to explain how to make a proper trap. Though you can kinna figure out how to make one...old players know how to make them work properly with the least amount of resources wasted. Dont be shy to ask.

Dinos that you should have by the end of your first week:

1. Anky

2.Doedi

3.Therezino

4. Carno, rex, or thyla

5. Trike or Iguanadon

So now by week 2 you have about 20 dinos if you are playing at least 4 hours a day (obviously taming with kibble/ try to avoid taming big dinos without kibble as they can take to tame 6 hours with raw meat or 4 with prime meat if you are lucky)...Try to make your kibble farm first. Even if needed buy dinos from old players to finish that faster. If by now you have build a good relationship with the server people will be nice to you and trade or sell you things at a fair price.

Dont rush to tame dinos without kibble...you will see sometimes is a waste of time.

By week 3 Lets talk about preparing for boss fighting.

All maps have bout 11 locations where you can find the artifacts. you can look at the locations on the ark wiki or go to youtube. There are plenty of videos about finding the caves. For most caves all you need is a thyla or a wolf. Be ware if you cant fit the thyla in the entrance of the cave you might have to bring a wolf. Tame a wolf for the smaller mount as sabertooth are weaker and take a lot of damage. Even with the saddle wolfs are a better mount than sabers. but if you like sabers...well, to be honest as long as you avoid fights you should be ok with a level 100+ level saber inside most caves. Last but not least, there are a few caves that you have to enter by your self with no mounts...dont make a million bullets to enter the cave like rambo...though i have to say is fun doing it like that lol Ask around on your server how to do it...people will explain to you or just go with you. There are many tricks to avoid dangers in side walking caves.

After you collect your first artifacts you can start using them as decoration or save them for your first boss fight. Go to the Green, red, or blue obelisk. There you will find what are the basic artifacts you need for your first boss fight.

Most bosses are done with 18 rexes, 1 yuty, and 1 pig. (basic set up of dinos to kill all bosses from easy to hard mode.). Obviously you need good quality rexes, a good blueprint for rex saddle (at least armor 50 if you are going alone into a boss fight), and good armor.

You can find the best blueprints in caves on "red drops". Each map has 1 or 2 caves which the blue prints are best. (rule of thumb...any cave in which you see yellow and red drops only are the best).

Finally, lets talk about breeding.

This is the last important thing you need to know. You will notice that there are males and females dinos. Well, when a man and a woman love each other.... you know where this is going lol

Point is, you need to mate them to get better stats. That means, every time you breed 2 good dinos there is a chance that the baby will be better than the ones you tame. Always recycle your dinos....kill the lower base level dinos and keep the higher level one ( base level is the level they start after you just finish your tame. Always save the statistical information of the melee and hp using folders after you tame a dino. That is the best way to make sure you are mating the best male and best female all the time).

This is where ark ends... once you reach this point you know you are not a noob anymore.

Tips:

1. Make strong relationships on your server with other players. Specially if you are a solo player. That way you can do boss runs together,,,is definetly good if you are planning to learn how to do bosses.

2. Do not build over metal spawn, prime stone spawn, or any place where a mayor resource is located. The server will hate you and that will ruin you experience in ark.

3. tribes come and go but friends last for ever. In other words...dont rush to join a tribe. Make a friend first and over time see if that friend is a good fit for you. It is not always good to start in a tribe as it ruins the ark experience by making everything too easy.

4. Build where no one likes to build. Usually that means where the harsher environment is. People like building on the beach...which to be fair is the best spots...however, if you are just starting ark you probably will not find a good spot anyways. Best secondary available spots are on the harshes areas of the map. Where is "too cold" or "too hot".

5. Dont tame all the dinos you see. That will be wasting your time. And i am pretty sure you want to have a life lol ARk is a life waster if you dont maximize time efficiency.

6. Finding good Blueprints is easy. If you know where to look. (underwater red drops are a waste of time. Go to caves!) Also, Best map for blueprints is Scorch earth (desert drops are easy to find).

7. This might be an unpopular tip but if you live by a tribe that has this symbols [] [] [] [] make sure your base is safe from people entering your base. MAke sure your perimeter is at least 4 wall height.  They know that most people who dont speak chinese or russian cant read the language as its not part of the ark text code...they usually drag gigas into people's base to lower the dino cap on servers.

8. Building unnecesary structures all around the map will give you a bad rep with the server...DONT DO IT.

9. If you have to send a ticket to ark support dont expect a fast answer....some times it takes a day for an answer other times a month... always find a way to fix the problem yours self. If it is abuse by a tribe or someone is messing with you send a ticket to ark...but dont expect help right away. Make sure you are always trying to avoid problems with other players. Ark can be a toxic place if you make it hard for yourself.

10. When you have a tribe...play for fun. If a dino dies...dont get angry...if your tribe kicks you out...there are more tribes that will open the doors to you if you formed a good relationship with the server from the start. IT is only normal that tribes end at one point...

YOu will find that ark will get repetitive and boring at some point... Breeding, caves, boss, breading, caves, boss...is the problem at the end...the game gets old once you have reached its end...but if you have a good tribe you can make ark a great friendly PVP on PVE with games within your tribe....or just set fun challenges for your self and your tribe to do.

So go play ark and have fun people... i think this pretty much covers ark from beginning to end :P

If you want to find me on ark... I am at PVE official PC Centermap 192. Always glad to help you if you are new and have questions.

A year ago, I took this a step further;

Ark Walk through for first time players. All systems.

First of all, get familiar with how the game mechanics work in single player using your, keyboard, mouse, game controller. Or, expect to suffer abuse and be killed a lot while you are trying to figure things out playing on a public server.

Of the five official maps, The Island and Ragnarok are the easiest with the Scorched Earth and Aberration mod the hardest. The safest starting locations are South Zone One on The Island, Tropical 2 on Ragnarok, North Tropical on The Center, South Zone One on Scorched Earth, and the portal on Aberration. Basic resources are plentiful. It is recommended that you avoid Scorched Earth for now due to the brutal conditions you will face as a new player in that map.

All first time players will have a chance to create their character to design and shape as they wish. Regardless of how they craft them, all characters start with the same stats in the game.

Game Play. Constant running will make you tired as well as use up food and water faster. Cold will use up food faster, heat will use up water faster. If you spawn near a dilo or raptor, run. Get behind something or run by some herbivore which it may take an interest in, allowing you to escape.

If you are killed, you will be reborn naked, but will retain your crafting skills. You can reclaim your stuff from your body if you can do so safely. If you have been eaten, a bag will be left with your stuff. You have fifteen minutes to reclaim it or it will be lost forever.

To start out in the game once you have spawned in;

  1. Grab a rock. In Ragnarok, you can get wood and thatch from the litter on the beach area. Otherwise, punch a tree or driftwood with your fist to get at least 1 wood and 10 thatch. Punching will cause you to lose health but there is no other choice until you can craft a pick.

  2. Go into crafting and craft the pick. Place it in hot bar 1.

  3. Go hit a boulder with the pick to get flint. Go hit a tree to get more wood and thatch. Pick some bushes to get some berries and fiber.

  4. As you will have leveled up by now, apply the level to health or weight. Select the hatchet and spears from the Engrams list and craft a hatchet. Place it in hot bar 2.

  5. Chop a tree to get mostly wood. Use the pick for thatch and flint. Craft at least three spears and place them in hot bar 3. You now have some means for defense against any attacking spitters and compys. As spitters will flare their hood before spitting on you, jump to the side to dodge the blinding spit. If you are attacked by a compy gang, go backwards to keep them in front of you aiming the spear low to kill them all, then harvest with the hatchet.

  6. In Ragnarok, there are crates along the shore near the Blue Obelisk and other areas. One can obtain some good items early by smashing them open with the hatchet.

  7. Place mejoberries in hot bar 0. Why? To prevent more important items being stolen from you by the Pegomastax which will sneak up and take things. Stolen berries may passive tame one.

  8. Craft a torch and place it in hot bar 6. You can still pick stones and bushes while using a torch.

  9. Go kill some Dodos for their meat and hide. Gather more stone, wood, thatch, and fiber. Eat berries for food but save the Narcos for taming as they will put you to sleep. Likewise, the Stimms will give you energy and counteract poisonous bites but make you very thirsty.

  10. At the next level up, get the campfire, shirt and pants, craft the clothes and put them on. Find a sheltered spot where your back is protected from surprise attacks and place the campfire down. Place wood and the meat in it and light the fire. Stock the fire with at least 100 wood. Use the fire and or torch to stay warm. The light should keep any dangerous Troodons away from you when it gets dark.

  11. A Waterskin will store water for your use when you are away from a water source, but they leak. You can refill them by standing in water and use item, or place in the hot bar and press that number. They can also be refilled when it rains with the use command.

  12. You may use the spear for fishing. Just be aware of sharks, mantas, and predator fish.

  13. As it is likely getting dark by now, use the torch for light and warmth as you go gathering more materials for a shelter. You should have a level up soon to get thatch foundation and walls. A shelter will give additional protection from excessive heat or cold.

  14. On Level 4, get the slingshot On Level 5, the storage box. Place extra items in storage so you are not being overburdened.

  15. Get a sleeping bag but don't craft it for now. You need the engram for the Simple Bed which you will craft and place in your shelter. This will give you a place to be reborn if your character gets killed. Sleeping bags are portable but they are a one time use item. You will soon have plenty from the supply drops you can access in the game.

  16. There are going to be many more items then you will ever have engram points for selecting. Spend them on items that are most useful. At this stage of the game, mortise and pestle, narc, spark powder, gunpowder, standing torch, bow arrow, and the raft are top priority followed by the tranc arrows. Get the Bola. It is most useful for stopping an attacking raptor or for immobilizing a creature from a Parasaur size and smaller for taming.

  17. The raft will allow for safe? transport for resources and safer locations. You can place structures on them and ferry your tames to safer locations. Just watch out for swimming sarcos, alligators, which can attack your tames on the raft, alpha sharks, or Leeds, a giant fish that will attack a raft on sight.

  18. Your first pets for tames can be some dodos for an egg farm, spitters that you knock out with the slingshot and use as guard dogs or for hunting, a parasaur for transport which will soon help to chase away the pesky Pegomaxes and other small predators, and later, a Trike for berry harvesting. Get low level ones for now, they are easier to tame. Your first flying transport a pteradon. Wait until you can craft saddles for them before attempting a tame.

You are now well on your way to being a survivor of the Ark. Play cautiously and watch your six. And, always prepared for the unexpected.

Additional;

The Bola is most useful for stopping smaller creatures for several seconds so you can either kill them, or knock them out for taming.

One Narc arrow will drop most pegomaxes and low level pteradons.

Bola a pteradon before knocking it out. Otherwise, it may fall into the water and drown. Beware of how fragile the lower level ones are.

Have stimms on the hot bar if you are in Troodon territory to counteract their poisonous bite. They are extremely fast and hard to target with ranged weapons.

Low level creatures will help you quickly get established. Once you have the Kibble and are well established, go for the high level ones to build up your dino army.

In multiplayer, out of common curiosity, demolish your abandoned structures. Don't build on spawn points.
