The Community Crunch is where we share important things going on with ARK, as well as host contests and showcase creations made by the community! TLC Phase 2 Preview - Raptor! Last week we showed you a preview of the updated Sarcosuchus coming in TLC 2 next month. Today we have another special treat to share: the Raptor! The Raptor is one of the most iconic creatures in ARK. Our goal with the Raptor is to keep it an essential early game tame and retain its usefulness to low level or new Survivors for traversing and battling on the ARK. The Raptor will continue to be an excellent scouting dino with its quick speed and high mobility, however it will now also receive a small pack bonus! The Pack Leader will be able to do a special vocalization that increases the packs damage resistance, movement speed, and attack speed for 15 seconds with a 45 second cooldown. This will allow a group of Raptors to stalk and pursue quick targets and quickly take them down. The Raptor will also have a pounce ability that allows it to jump and pin down players and smaller creatures. Once pounced upon, the Raptor can use its bite attack to quickly kill its prey. Survivors on foot better be on the lookout for Raptors that may be stalking them through the trees! The Great Migration #2! If videos are submitted, they must have a maximum duration of one minute. Super Resolution: These should be taken at 8x Super Resolution. Players can optionally use Depth of Field effects accessible in Spectator mode by pressing the [Delete] key. Panoramic 360 Stereoscopic 3D: These should be taken at 4x Super Resolution, in 360 Stereoscopic 3D mode. We will crop them to 2D for web display, while also providing the 3D version for viewing within VR display. Freeform: Any settings, whacky and creative use of Ansel filters are encouraged. Can we just give all rideable tames player controlled vocalizations? Give more life to the life forms. Also....Pteranodons aren't...water foul...I can agree with the dive, and using the beak for grabbing small creatures, but the hind feet are one of the essential aspects of it. Definitely if you’re going to put feathers on a creature that was fully feathered in real life just make it fully feathered. It just looks lazy otherwise. Also I do find the pounce to be a great addition, but still not setting it apart enough to be more useful. I think making it slightly larger to support a two seater saddle would really make it stand out as a useful creature. I am a bit disappointed as well, but only about the look. Most notable about it are the bigger eyes and nostrils... I second a full coat of feathers. Here's just my personal opinions. -Body shape looks pretty good. -Feathers on arms and tail look kinda goofy. Feathers on back and head look good. -Head shape is pretty good. -Mouth and nostrils make it looks a bit more fierce. - Eyes are little bit "O_O" in my opinion -Ears are...ehh...a bit big? looks like I could reach my hand in one end and out the other. - I really like the mix of scales and feathers, but the head could definitely use some work I think. - Pack boost was predictable but CERTAINLY a welcome addition. - The pounce thing sounds really cool Final Notes The gameplay additions have me excited. The visuals could probably use another look at. Either way I'm really excited for Raptor 2.0! Bowen42997 Posted February 20, 2018 Share Posted February 20, 2018 Top 5 creatures TLC I want: #5 Hyaenodon: I want it to look like the original model before they changed it to a modern day Hyena. #4 Brontosaurus: They should reduces the size by 25%, change the head and skin texture. Finally change the name to Apatosaurus, their both the same creature. It was thought that the Bronto and Apato were two separate animals, but was discovered that there was a mix up with the fossils. #3 Titanoboa: Increase the size by 25%-50%, remove the frill. Have a constricting attack like modern day Boas, Pythons and Anacondas. #2 Pachyrhinosaurus: Change the head to look more like the real thing. I completely agree with these two post, the feathers are definitely an improvement but the Mohawk looks rather odd on the new head, and somehow it comes off as adorable. Im not saying it has to be fully coated in feathers(although it would be greatly appreciated, perhaps an option?) but perhaps a design similar to the megalosaurus could work? It's just that now that it has realistic feathers it meshes oddly with the scales. As for other animals I would like to see get a tlc it would be nice to see the araneo, onyc, and dilo get a model update and more useful abilities especially for the spider and bat. DarkRaptor13 Posted February 20, 2018 Share Posted February 20, 2018 The Raptor pounce ability look great and would be awesome with an animation for his famous claw to stop the prey from moving. Still think it absolutely need a latching ability to fight bigger creatures, pouncing on big preys and staying a short time on it, dealing damages with his arms and teeth. Basically the same behavior than the dev idea but applied to bigger preys in a bit different way. This latching ability could be good to harass bigger dinos, letting time to the player to flee from big predators or come with a bigger predator to end a preys life. It looks a bit like the JP raptor yes but still a different head. It looks way more awesome this way ! the old one looks more like the deinonychus from the Jurassic world upgoming game. Maybe a reskin or variant could be made in the future to get another raptor or deinonychus skin/variant with feathers and one without feathers at all too maybe ? Genetics have been altered in everything in both that movie and this game. My vote is to tlc change as shown. Or..... Perhaps make it stealthier and smarter somehow?
