I guess the best thing is just knowing that your things are safe while your not on, I still prefer to play with others even if they aren't in my tribe so I stick to PDS and play with my friends, half the excitement is showing people what you did and general strategy sharing

Ok... I can't ever find any good PvE or ORP servers though.

I play almost exclusively single player, and I love it. Just among the things I am so glad to never have contended with from the horror stories are things like tame cap, no building space, lag, jacka** neighbors, trolls or griefers.

The appeal for me (aside from being an unsocial recluse, lol) is that I can be the master of my own universe. With all the server settings at your disposal you’re free to customize your experience to your tastes, and choose your challenges.

I enjoy being able to build massive sanctuaries - which don’t DC me like a public server, I hear...wherever I choose.

I enjoy spending long, uninterrupted days seeking out high level pets, and one of my favorite parts of Ark is breeding. And breeding in single player, I’m not chained to my house and an alarm clock to stop whatever I’m doing and report for imprinting.

And I enjoy the peace of mind I get knowing everything stops when I log off for the day, knowing I can pick right back up where I left off next time without fear of chaos cropping up while I’m not there.

Those are probably the main advantages for me...hope it gives you some insight.

I exclusively play single player for these exact same reasons this poster has. Been doing it for more than a year and still ain't bored.
I occasionally join my friend's unofficial server , but the constant lag and disconnects gets to me very quickly and then I go back and rather enjoy SP.
SP is freedom of choice with peace and quiet added in , mixed together with smoothness in gameplay.

In the end it will depend on a person self. I know some people that simply can't play alone and have to have someone else around and never touches single player. Nothing wrong with that , that's just how some are.

I would say try it , and see if you like it. I would suggest though to do some homework on the settings first and decide how you want to balance things.
Default settings on SP is a much bigger grind than on servers in a tribe. Remember there is nobody else helping.

I play single player because I enjoy the idea of building mobile bases on Brontos and Paracers. Plus its good for practicing the art of trapping large dinos and taming them.

Definitely need to learn to max settings for dino spawns and lvls.

When Im not on single player I play around with idea of doing pvp, but way too many people much better at it than I am. Pvp is still fun though.

For me single player is great because when you need to log off you can log of and everything stops, doesnt matter if you have have just hatched some thing or not. You can revolve the game around your life not your life around the game, which coming from an ex official player is absolute bliss. I can do what I want and at my own pace without other players interfering.

Only problem is it get so darn lonely lol :Jerbcry:

Yea that's the biggest issue. Right now I know my mobile base has 3 forges full of metal cooking, on my Bronto, with my Allos gathered around as an escort while metal gathering........

........but it gets boring after a while without the ridiculous global chat and questions always popping up.

So I guess I will need to find a populated unofficial to join, at least 30 people active.

I miss the community feel of the PvE server I was on. Chat always being active and people interacting. Loved dropping everything to go and help new spawn ins or going to help others who needed assistance or the server get togethers to take down titans and gigas. "Help theres a titan in my base !" Oh the drama lol.

Going to give online play a rest for just now and maybe even give Ark a rest before jumping back online if I ever do. Hate the constant upkeep online play requires.

Hello,

I use single player as a testing ground. But also stables and such.

Try to find your own goal. If you do not you quickly find yourself playing PvP again :)

Ariana

Thanks so much! You have all given me a lot to consider, and I guess I will give it a try. If it gets too lonely or something, I will find a new PvE or ORP server, I guess :P

Thank you all again!

Ok... Do you ever use them? Is it fine if you use them once or what?

Yes....... I used admin commands to reconstruct an almost exact replica of my base I had on official, plus one or two artistic liscenses I took, just to get myself back to roughly where I was on official. Didnt spawn in any dinos and spawn commands cant replace bred creatures so theres no point. Now I just use them for general server stuff as it were. Like reseting the wild dinos or what not.

Essentially its up to you what you want to do with them. There are some admin commands you will need to use however. Mainly commands to maintain the health of the server (or single player world i should say). Particularity the 'DestroyWildDinos' command for reseting all the creature spawns, I do this one regularly as the spawns seem to exhaust them selves after a while especially if your hunting for a particular species. Other useful ones would be the ghost commands for if you or a dino gets stuck in places they really shouldnt for example. Again its really up to you what you want.

On an unrelated note, I really wish there was an option to have multiple save of the same map. Is annoying that we cant have two different saves of say the island.

Same here, it's annoying when I want to test things on the island, and find that I have 2 gigas tamed that I was testing with when I first got the game years ago xD

I've never played Single Player but after being on a PVP server, found the ORP servers to be a nice healthy balance.. can't get offline wiped and has the PVP aspect when I am on.. on PS4 btw

What type of server is it? PC? Unofficial? I can't ever find good servers of ORP
