Dino TLC: Feedback! Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Fliers should get bonus speed when imprinted. I can Respect and understand the need for a Flier nerf, but I feel like if your going to go through the effort for imprinting a flier then you deserve to have a faster flier

I would first of all like to say that I love the detail going into the dinos and that I have a couple suggestions that I feel would be nice.

Dire Wolf- The style it’s reaching is drastically better then before. My suggestions would be to add fur to the sides of the face more in a shape like a diamond to give it a less round feel, add less pronounced eyebrows so the eyes don’t look a little sunken in, perhaps even move the eyes closer together or make them rounder at the top, lengthen the legs and or slim out the entire neck and underbelly to give it a more skinny/fit wild feel, and most importantly make sure the lower jaw connects correctly. The current style has a strange shape as if the bottom of the mouth is being pulled up. Overall the face should look more like the image below.

DCD8374D-BA46-4385-B260-DF4379FDED5F.thumb.jpeg.bf6cf3fa3ada3c1231cfe3403060388f.jpeg

Hyaenodon- The head has a lot of strange details that could use a smoother or furry touch.

Argentavis- Could use a detail lift, Id suggest to make the head smoother with more small feathers. It could get a little bit more skinny or longer in the body if desired but should stay away from vulture as they are already in the game.

Phoenix- I have had a friend point out that the Phoenix can’t land but yet in the dossier picture it’s on the ground so it would be cool if it could perch upon branches, logs, or fences and remain there once dismounted without the ability to land. Another thought on the Phoenix is that the flames on its body should come in various colors other then a yellowish. Perhaps red, orange, yellow, a greenish yellow, light blue, magenta, and white. This would make them more appealing to the eye, and more interesting to hunt for the right color. I also think it would be AMAZING and more lore friendly if once they die, amidst the ashes would be a Phoenix egg so they could be “Reborn” from the ashes.

Thylacoleo- Should be able to climb in the same style that a rock drake can, instead of using the jump button it could use the secondary attack button to switch into climb stance.

Onyc- could use a rework and should have a special ability where it can cling to a players back and act as a glider suit.

And lastly all rideable dinos should have a roar and all land dinos should have the ability to jump. :]

Many fans including myself would love to see the Spino stand on 2 legs instead of 4, wile standing on 4 legs it looks much smaller than it was. There should be a option, stand on 4 legs or 2 legs  and made bigger and more deadly this would make the spino more popular in ark and more unique for its type of model.

Leave any comments about this topic if you agree or disagree and hopefully we can what what the ARK people want thanks.

Yes I would like an option, a permanently two legged spino would quite possibly make the spino my least favorite dino. (Besides seagulls and therzinos.)

Sorry bud, the spino walked on all 4's. It also had more of an M shaped spine. Took me a while to wash the JP3 look from my mind, but when you embrace the water dwelling crocodilian look of the real spino it looks pretty good and you get used to it.

Yeah I prefer the crocodilian look too, but the game isnt going for realism - so perhaps an option to switch between the two modes would be the best option

A suggestion for ALL Dino's with tails.

REDUCE THE HITBOXES. It's crazy how big the hitboxes are on the tails of Dino's. Particularly when babies, it's like they have the same sized tails as the adults. It may not be the best option but maybe just make it so you can walk through the tail of anything that doesn't use the tail to harvest.

Reapers are now the worst for it since their tail hitbox seems to go down to the ground, I can't even prone crawl under it.

A simple idea to help creatures that are often given a pass in favor of better ones.

I would suggest to give groups of similarly designed creatures the same abilities. The idea is to add some difference to certain low end creatures, such as a steggo and a trike.

Horned dinosaurs (currently Trike and Pachyrhinosaurus): Charge/Ram.  Speed increases as the animal covers distance (like bear).  At a certain speed, the charge can deal significant damage/skewer and damage structures.  Increased stamina overall. Perhaps the skewer could be a short time “grapple” and bleed to shove medium-large dinos over cliffs.  With the trikes armor bonus to the head, it could act as a sort of battering ram.

Spike-tail dinosaurs (currently Steggo and Kentrosaurus): Whirlwind attack. Similar to Reaper in function. Crowd control those stupid compys!

Armored dinosaurs (currently Anklyo): Ground Pound.  Click-and-hold to slam tail into the ground, with an AOE knockback.  Larger charge, larger knock-back.  Make a hole in their line to break through! Push that pack of Ravagers over the cliff!

The point is to make all the beginner dinos on par with the Thorny Lizard.  Nothing OP, but still useful.

What I would love to see:

  • Added breeding to more creatures (Especially Scorpions and Araneo that have eggs already and Onyc, but I would also love to see Dung Beetle and even Giant Bee although I understand why you wouldn't go with that one)
  • More specialization for dinos - Trike and Stegos do practically the same rendering one of them unnecessary. Why not use the Moschops and/or Theri specialisation mechanic on more dinos? Maybe even on berry level - Specialize the Trike/Stego in collecting more seeds/narcoberries/stimberries/amarberrys, etc.
  • Birds able to sit on bird tree structures (new structure though, thinking ¬ shape) and/or fences - Onycs would hang from branches (or roofs), Dimorphs could sit many on one branch/fence, etc.... Easier "storage" of birds or... Make an aviary!
  • Remodelling ideas:
    • All fur? Sabers (which could also drop some fur as they are hairy), Mammoths and Rhinos
    •

And most of all

  • More interactive taming! I love the equus taming (why not on a bird...? :P Make sure to bring parachutes! ). Even hyaenodon is good in spite of its problems and otter taming in spite of corpses spoiling a bit too quick (longer spoil time when carrying?). I much prefer this to just Stockholm syndroming them (knockout taming) or following around feeding, although I wouldn't want to remove these taming methods! Just add some more diversity to taming - add the equus method to more animals, the hyaenodon and otter methods as well. They are good mechanics - why not use them more? Instead of having knockout and passive taming as the methods with a few exeptions - make all methods the taming methods and use them for many animals where they fit.
To summarize - I'd love to see the "special" taming methods not being so special, but instead being used on more than one type of animal each, like the knockout and passive taming methods.
    • And for adding new types: What about lassoing a creature and then move to counter its attempts at fleeing for a little bit before it's tamed?

I will order this list alphabetically, then by category (Flying, Swimming, Land) to simplify. I will list a strikethrough on any tame I feel does not need more love, to show I have thought of it and feel it is balanced as-is, or on any jokes that are not actual suggestions.
My intent is explicitly focused on making dinos that are frequently unused regain their reasons to be taken out of the stables. Dinos who are already commonly used, but who need tweaks, I will not be focusing on much.

==FLYING CREATURES==

1- Archaeopteryx:
  - Add ability to rest on shoulder, freeing up use of hands. (Possibly use "grab" keybind as toggle for it's glide ability.)

2- Argentavis (Noted WC has intent to add TLC already):

  - As carrion eaters, increased rates of spoiled meat gather(similarly to vulture). (Reason: They are known for consistent aggro on dead creatures to exclusion of living, concern of "swoop" placing too similarly to Griffin.)

 3- Dimorphodon:

4- Griffin:

5- Ichtyornis:

6- Lymantria:

 - Ability to "polinate" crops for growth speed buff with "sprinkle fart" (I don't what else to call it). Moth is hardly used, even for it's ability to slow creatures. Utility would help.

7- Onyc:

8- Pheonix:

9- Pelagornis:
-Ability to transport small tamed water creatures, similarly to Aberration's "Fish Basket."

10- Pteranodon:

11- Quetzal:

12- Tapejara:

13: Vulture:

14: Wyvern:

==SWIMMING CREATURES==

15: Ammonite:

16: Angler:
 - Tamed melee stat effects light emission range (similarly to Charge Light creatures)

17: Basilisaurus:

18: Cnidaria:

-My girlfriend is begging me to ask "make them tameable." "I want pretty underwater sparkly lights." (Maybe make them passive/unable to attack and produce bio toxin like Beetles do oil so I don't wind up single??)

- In all seriousness: Tameable but cannot be ordered to attack. Produces bio toxin passively on wander. Shocks only when attacked or inventory opened: Hazard Suit protects from shock.

19: Coelecanth:
-Globally reduce spawn rates.

20: Diplocaulus:

- Carryable on land (similar to dodo, uses both hands.)

21: Dunkleosteus:

22: Electrophorus:

-Enable "AI special attacks" with shock, capable of friendly fire (for balancing risk/reward to not be OP.)

23: Ichtyosaurus:
-Ability to drag rider to surface for air/safe distance if rendered unconscious while riding (similar to real life dolphins.) (Does not apply unless ridden when knocked unconscious.)

24: Leedsichthys:

25: Liopleurodon:

26: Manta:

27: Megalodon

- Bloodlust ability (similar to Direwolves new TLC passive)- Notifies you of nearby creatures below 50% health (Sharks smell blood a mile away, or something like that.)

28: Mosasaurus:
- Tek saddle includes a rudder (I kid, but seriously.. Love this dino, but that turn radius.)

29: Pirahna:

30: Plesiosaur (Already has TLC incoming):

31: Sabertooth Salmon:

32: Trilobite:
 -Disable anti-gravity traction control.

33: Tusoteuthis:
- Ink makes wild creatures temporarily passive (to effectively make it the same as wilds' ink, which blinds you.)

==LAND CREATURES==

34: Achatina:

35: Allosaurus:

36: Ankylosaurus:

37: Araneo:
- Ability to climb like Rock Drakes.
- Web functions as ffull-stop "bola" on shoulder-sized creatures (things humans can carry.)

38: Arthropluera:

39: Baryonyx:

40: Beelzebufo:

41: Brontosaurus:

42: Carbonemys:
 - Ability to withdraw into it's shell when set to passive and low health (similarly to Doedicurus roll up.) *They're not as used since turret changes, so this feels balanced to me.

43: Carnotaurus:

- Increased knockback from headbutts.

44: Casteroides:

45: Chalicotherium:

46: Compy:

- Ability to latch onto dinos inflicting damage over time: Rider must dismount and attack them directly to break them free. (they are too weak, and even a fist knocks them back.)

47: Daeodon:

48: Dilophosaur:

49: Dimetrodon:

50: Diplodocus:

51: Direbear (Already has TLC):

52: Direwolf (Already has TLC:

53: Dodo:
Ability to make Nest, provides very small insulation buff. (Can have a million nests for a significant buff.) *Requires mateboost.

54: Doedicurus:

55: Dung Beetle:

56: Equus:

57: Gallimimus:

58: Giant Bee:

59: Giganotosaurus:

60: Gigantopithecus (already has TLC):

61: Hesperornis:

62: Hyaenodon:

63: Iguanodon:

64: Jerboa:

-More weather notification abilities for non-SE events (Quakes in Aberration, cold snaps on the island, etc.)

65: Kairuku:

 - Hypothermmic Incubation passive (similar to dimetrodon, stronger, but only hypo, not hyper.)

66: Kaprosuchus:

67: Kentrosaurus:

68: Lystrosaurus:

- Ability to follow specific dinos without without requiring a player to ride it (as in, make it follow your dung beetles or dodos.)

69: Mammoth:

 - Hypothermic insulation buff when ridden (non-AoE.) Similar to Basilosaurus.

70: Mantis:

-Ability to wield chainsaws (even if they don't work, to terrorize everyone I cross by silhouette alone.)

71: Megalania:

72: Megaloceros (Female TLC already underway):
 - Males: Ability to wander gather thatch from trees by antler rubbing.

73: Megalosaurus:

74: Megatherium:

75: Mesopithecus:

76: Microraptor:

77: Morellatops:

78: Moschops:

79: Otter:
- Did anyone else notice these things WRECK karkinos?? OP, no changes needed.

80: Oviraptor:

81: Ovis:

82: Pachycephylosaurus:

  - Headbutt charge makes it immune to knockback for the duration of the charge. (They are relatively weak, this would allow "pass through jousting" as well it can be used as means of escape when being knockedback locked.)

83: Pachyrhinosaurus:

84: Paraceratherium:

85: Parasaur:

- Drastically increased swim speed. Makes it a more viable starter mount, it has a fin doesn't it? (Makes it match the dossier, as well.)

86: Pegomastyx:

87: Phiomia:

- As it has been outpaced by roll rats, it could use a unique ability to make it worth having again:
- Pigs root around in the dirt for mushrooms IRL. Ability to produce rare mushrooms on wander would set them apart slightly from Roll Rats.

88: Procoptodon (Already has TLC):

89: Pulminoscorpius:

- Ability to carry smaller creatures (like a crab, limited to about what humans can carry.)
- Ability to "Milk" the scorpion for narcotics. Requires carrying Glass Jars. Rewards multiples per jar.

90: Purlovia:

91: Raptor (Has TLC):

92: Rex (Has TLC):

93: Rock Elemental:

- Fall damage AoE. Since they get glitched in air often, this could serve as a counter to encouraging that. The longer they're in the air, the more damage they "emit" (kind of like spikes/arhtros emit damage in a radius) upon landing. Makes drop bearing a golem a very viable strategy, and discourages glitching under their feet at the same time.

94: Sabertooth:

- Once the king of hide gathering, they are all but forgotten now (and don't even produce kibble.) So I have several suggestions for revival:
- Ability to "mark" territory, reducing aggression ranges of creatures inside the radius, but increasing aggression of other cats. More sabers=large marked area. Toggleable via radial menu ("Golden" Option.)

- Ability to gather thatch (scratching posts.)

95: Sarco:

- "Lying in Wait." Rests with mouth open, first hit inflicts significantly more damage than hits that follow. Like IRL.

96: Spinosaurus:

97: Stegosaurus (Already has TLC):
- Make it a 2 seater, placing riders more directly behind plates.

- Attacks that hit the tail inflict thorns damage.

98: Terror Bird:

99:  Therizinosaurus:

100: Thorny Dragon:

101: Thylacoleo:

102: Titanboa:

-Harder to tame than the much superior basilisk, and more expensive to feed, so I feel there is a need for a significant mechanical buff once tamed. Thus the following:
- "Coil" ability to hold humanoid sized prey, only once tamed. Becomes immobile, makes held creature passive and shielded from damage until released or titanboa holding is killed. Good for "holding" tames when nowhere to put them or trying to protect them short term in hostile locations while you run for ammo/etc. ---Example:You find a wild sheep. You have your titanboa coil around it, keeping both immobile. Now anything that wants to kill the sheep will first have to kill the boa: This may allow you time to run home and get cakes. But you may lose the boa, too!

-  Ability to wander gather eggs (such as the oviraptor was expected to have.) Will eat them if none in food troughs, otherwise can collect from it's inventory. Adds risk/reward, as if you forget to feed it, you may lose even a fertilized egg it picked up.

103: Titanosaur:

104: Triceratops:

105: Troodon

106: Wooly Rhino:

107: Yutyrannus:

==SPECIALS==

108: Unicorn:
-A neat trophy dino, but mechanically identical to Equus. Ability to heal nearby dinos (similar to Species Z) by emitting charge (thus consuming some some stat or another). This was an honorable mention by my girlfriend. And while cute, it actually does incentive pursuing that rare (unique, if not transfferred) tamed for mechanical reasons.

--Edit to include unicorn, which I had not considered until afterwards.
--Edit 2: Sorry. I did not realize my post had been merged when making a new thread from it. I thought I had mistakenly posted it in the wrong section, as it took a while to type it out and I couldn't remember if I posted as reply or new thread. Didn't intend to override, just thought I had posted in the wrong spot.

think the wyverns need a new retouch.. especially the poison wyvern. I dont feel its right that they hurt their own rider when battling up close and has made them the most unpopular wyvern despite being so beautiful looking.

This thread got too big for me to completely read, but a few things:

Stop making wild animals look angry all the time. The wolves have dog like behavior and they definitely don't look angry all the time.

Tyrannosaurus is known to have feathers, they should have them in the game too and the front arms should probably be somewhat hidden by them. Front arms not having anything on them would also not make sense for a species that has lived for millions of years, so its much more probably that they were winglike like a chicken's wings (and they would probably use this to balance and regulate heat).

There's quite a few of deep sea mammals that need some TLC too. The teeth of the plesiosaur look extremely weird and its unlikely for any animal to not have lips to cover the teeth.

Flyers should get an animation for swimming. Birds do it irl, sometimes even for fun. It should not be a condition to throw its rider off which is one of the biggest flyer issues that currently exists. Birds also need strafing animation as they are usually perched on branches and are often more likely to move in that method than they are to move straight forward or backwards (which they can also do when trained). Birds should also be able to run, as they can irl (and yes, it looks funny, especially when they are drunk). Flyer AI needs to be fixed as well. Birds either grab and kill in their claws, or they fight on the ground (there's plenty of footage that this is their typical behavior). Pteras hunt for fish and skim the water, same with quetzal. Flapping your arms around like a maniac tires you out really fast, imagine what it does to a bird... And especially big birds do not flap their wings like crazy but instead glide a lot and glide a lot in circles so that they don't overshoot their territory. This should be their default mode of flight making it standard for bird to be flying forwards; holding backwards in the air should cause them to hover and should expend their stamina pretty quickly. As should flying forward; sprint as such should be removed.

Finally I'd like to address one animal that has pretty much been completely ignored: homo sapiens. They look outdated and their animations are really bad. They don't know how to handle a sword and they are really bad with a shield. Most notably they repeatedly make the stupid mistake of bringing down their shield when they are about to attack. They also seem to be loading arrows from a magic quiver everytime they fire slowing their firing rate significantly. They grab pikes and spears in the wrong location when using them to fight, reducing their range with the weapon a LOT. And they can't even hold a gun properly even if their life depended on it (and in some cases they look rather small compared to the gun they are holding). Furthermore, they seem, to be unable to wield a shield and a pistol at the same time, which hints at a severe lack of intelligence.

WYVERNS  BREEDABLE AND MUTATIONS PLEASE JUST GIVE US WYVERN MUTATIONS !!!!

You guys gave us the xmas wyverns so why not mutations

Breedable wyverns too op?  Nope why would it be op like gigad are breedable so why not wyverns?

Would also like to see a HYDRA

Some other dude posted something about is already: if you find a hydra head there is a chance that the egg contains a 2/8 headed wyvern making 8/8 the rarest

Breedable Ofcourse but make it hard

Didn't intend to override, just thought I had posted in the wrong spot.

I LOVE pretty much all of this!! Especially, I love the added buffs (and with them, utility of the dinos)! Would add the wandering collector mechanic to Anky as well, like Doed has. And I really want to see the Trike get some utility :x

that onyc suggestion is golden - and will raise the tames popularity a ton.

I think this discussion illustrates clearly how much people expected/dream of this game being improved from it's current state.

When i first started following the development of ark i thought everything was a placeholder and that the developers had a serious appreciation for prehistoric life with their obscure creature additions - i thought things like the megalosaurus sleeping, the  fight or flee nature of the hyenadons and the pack nature of the allosaurus were going to be implented across the board. I dreamed of a completed ark, where simply watching the world around you would be entertaining and fascinating.

Instead - we have scorpions teaming up with trexes hunting down blindly any herbivore that moves. ARK DEVS, YOU'RE NEARLY THERE, DO BETTER!

Yes I would like an option, a permanently two legged spino would quite possibly make the spino my least favorite dino. (Besides seagulls and therzinos.)

I honestly would love to Spinosaurus to be revamped and be on two legs I'd be a lot stronger and have something to want people to want it more they need to bring the spinosaurus back into action

Honestly revamping the spino would be kind of cool especially had an option to use two legs and use the other legs as weapons for claws as well as biting making it have three attacks
