Welcome to the 37th issue of the Community Crunch! To those unaware this is a topic which primarily consist of content to share, made by the community, for the community! As well as any little changes I want to make survivors aware about, which happen within our community ;). We’ve also included this week’s Digest in the Q+A!

ARK Life is a community role playing server which means that players on this server have created their own characters, given them backstories and are essentially 'acting' them whilst playing the game. Ryker is one of the survivors that exist on ARK Life and this is his story.


ARK: Tribe Warfare

ARK Tribe Warfare is a pvp-focused server where players are split between 3 different- tribes, recognized by colour and players compete with each other and fight to the death. The server takes a unique approach to PvP and has regular wipes to keep the server fresh.

This is an award given to Survivors to celebrate the amazing structures you build. These bases are judged based upon a number of different factors such as their creativity, uniqueness, how fun of a base it is, the difficulty of building it, the functionality it provides and much more!

Hey guys! Can you introduce yourself to the community, and let us know about what it is that you are currently working on?



OXXY/NOSTUFF: Hi there ! After having played Ark for more than 1000 hours, we decided to create mods that would be sought-after. We are from France. OXXY handles the programing and NOSTUFF does all the graphics.

We continue to improve the mods that are currently on the workshop, while working on a «secret project». Here’s a little teaser ;)


Now these are some very interesting and enjoyable mods, where did you get your inspiration from?


OXXY/NOSTUFF : Movies inspire us, like Stargate Atlantis, Jurassic Ark. We want to continue the magic we see in movies and apply it to our favorite games.


One of your mods has been blowing up in the Steam Workshop! Stargate Atlantis is pretty different to what’s been seen before, can you tell us what sort of mod it is and what how you’re hoping to progress with it?



OXXY/NOSTUFF: At the beginning, this mod was created to simplify travels through the maps, however we kept thinking about the functionality and gameplay that this mod provided, then we realized all the available possibilities such a mod could offer. For example: teleport marine animals from isolated lakes, link different TEAM outpost that are far from one another (especially with maps such as Valhalla), as well as provide public access (admins events, easier access to resources).


What types of things do you have planned in terms of Stargate Atlantis' core-features?


OXXY/NOSTUFF : We took everything we thought possible out of Stargate without losing the integrity of Ark. For example, the Zat'nik'tel (One shot from the zat stuns, a second shot kills, and a third shot disintegrates) would be to much, but we are open to any suggestions  =)


With this being an advanced-technology mod, did you have any concerns on how it would affect gameplay? 


NOSTUFF : Of course, I remember when we decided we would create the teleport mod, we discussed the gameplay at length and how the mod would affect the game. 
OXXY: We force limitations on ourselves to ensure we keep the integrity of the gameplay.

And how about the creative process for the mods, how do you know when you’d like to add something to the game?


OXXY/NOSTUFF : We try to bring alternatives to satisfy the gamer’s behavior. For example, we got tired of seeing gamers protect themselves with behemote gates, so we created Jurassic Ark, a mod that allows behemote electric fences as enclosures.


And how have you found the responses to be from the Community?


OXXY/NOSTUFF : Many loved the gameplay because of the reference to Stargate, especially since many gamers are Stargate fans =D (OXXY is one of them!)


I’ve not actually seen the film myself but glad to hear so many are enjoying it! Does look very cool. Do you have any plans for the immediate when it comes to the mod?



OXXY/NOSTUFF : Clearing out some bugs; we are also open to any suggestions.

Tell us more about your experience with modding and how are you finding working with the ARK Dev kit?


Oxxy: I have already modded various games such as ARMA2, ARMA3 and Space Engineer.
OXXY/NOSTUFF: Thanks to ARK & Unreal engine collaboration, the modding community has a vast array of possibility. 

Do you have any tips for upcoming modders on what they can do when working with UE4 and ARK itself?


OXXY/NOSTUFF : There are tons of video tutorials on YouTube and the modding Ark section on UE forum is very active! https://forums.unrealengine.com/forumdisplay.php?70-ARK-Survival-Evolved

It is very active and helpful community! Is there anything you’d like to end with before wrapping this up?

ARK Digest Q+A

Survivor, Dinopaint asks, “Will there be an option to disable non tribe members, as well as all players, from painting your structures/dinos/character? It can be disheartening to get online and see that someone painted over your hard work. It can take a lot of dye to repaint everything and a good bit of time. It's even worse when the vandal draws inappropriate words and symbols on you and your dinos while you're offline.”


PvP is designed to be anything-goes. Best protect your base with extreme measures if you want to keep vandals away. However, if the players are writing anything culturally offensive on your stuff, you can notify a GM on our forum to determine if it merits administrative action.

Survivor, Dinopaint also asks, “Will the black and white dyes get updated to appear more visible when painting dinos and people?”


Yup! We’re working on it ;)

Survivor, ArrowHedd asks, “Where will the 4th boss be spawned at? Is there gonna be a new Obelisk?”


Not on the ARK proper :P..

Survivor, Goldzone asks, “Will there be a possibility to have multiple saves for the xbox one for single player?”


Yup, there will be a way to have multiple saves :)

Survivor, Spiros asks, “How about a stronger resource after base metal?”


The Tek Tier will indeed introduce a resource above metal.

Survivor, lj999 asks, “Will rivers ever get an expansion (a deepening and a widening)?”


Not currently planned, but we will take another look at them and see whether it’ll work.

Survivor, Frostyeagle asks, “Will mutations have a visual effect or just stat based?”


There won’t be any visual mutations, just stat based.

Survivor, Frostyeagle also asks, “Any cryptic hints to what the uber boss might be?”


It’s not an “Earth” culture mythical creature.

Survivor, xohpa asks, “Will the upcoming disease system make using blood packs risky? How will we know if we have a disease?”


Yes it will affect blood packs ;)

Survivor, xohpa also asks, “Are you considering adding an EMP device for low-tier tribes to use against electrical and the upcoming Tek Tier equipment? And perhaps the Electric Eels could be used as a back-up generator in that case?”


An EMP device is planned. Electric Eels though hmmm….

Survivor, Lewimaron asks, “Can we get a client side setting for disabling the crosshair even if its enabled on the server?”


Sure, we’ll do this in the next major version :).

Survivor, Bulborb87 asks, “The titanosaurus say's its immune to traq's so does that mean we have to use catapults or the chalicotherium to knock it unconscious?”


Torpor will involve applying massive physical damage to its head, specifically.

Survivor, griffinwca asks, “If there are new gateways for the tek tier, can a player be able to do a whistle to open and close them?”



Survivor, Mutinous asks, “What do you have in mind for the musical instruments in the future?  I think they have a lot of potential uses to make things more interesting.  War drums just scream to be used as a way to pump up or manage your fight-ready dinos.”


No current plans to add buffs based on music, but we can consider it. Next musical instrument planned is electric keyboard! 

Survivor, Waylio asks, “How about a new piece of gear like a bandit mask or costume. The idea is it would keep your name hidden when seen by the spyglass and also not reveal you as the killer of anything in a tribe log? Would add a lot to the guerrilla warfare playstyle of trying to defeat an alpha tribe. "Your Rex was killed by a bandit!"”


Heh, cute idea. Certainly easy enough to do, but might be very annoying for defenders to not even know who wrecked their Tribe’s base eh? ;-) 

Survivor, Dominic asks, “I was wondering if your going to add a creative mode similar to mine craft into ark Xbox one, like where you can have unlimited items.”


Soon on Xbox we’ll be enabling cheat commands for administrators/local-play, as on PC. Then you can give yourself all the items you want, if that’s how you want to play it!

Survivor, Gooby asks, “Can you release any information on the bear? Obviously an ETA isn't probable, but I'd like to know what they look like in-game, do they have armor/saddles, what colors are they, etc. I'm super excited for the bears to come out and on my RP server we're having a whole faction dedicated to bears so we're personally invested in their arrival and awesomeness.”


We’ll tell you this, You WILL be able to make a bear-skin rug!

Survivor, zForgottenAngel asks, “Will there be dino painting on the Xbox? If so, I don't expect a specific ETA since you can't answer that but is it planned to be soon?”


Not currently planned until we implement a new streaming asset system to better manage memory. Then, it may be so :)

Survivor, TR-8R asks, “Now that different Coel size is underway plus the Kaikuru baby among adult , will we see dino with different size and age soon ?”


Yeah and we’re nearly ready for it!

Survivor, Randrewf asks, “What happened to the vertical dino gates for flyers? They were talked about many a digest ago, did you guys forget?”


One day soon, it will happen. The assets are already generated, just gotta get around to implementing them!

Survivor, xohpa asks, “In regards to the Thylacoleo and its tree-climbing abilities, could you explain how this will work? Will it use the already existing trees or will new ones be added that you can't cut down fully that are more solid all the way up?”


Existing trees and there will also be new humongous redwoods incoming.

Survivor, FuzzyHigh asks, “so the 235.5 update just came out adding tribe alliances and we have allied with 2 other tribes but we have noticed that we all can see each others tribe chat is there any plans to make tribe alliance chat separate? because it would help with the spam on chat. thanks”


Yes we plan to add a chat channel just for Tribe Alliances, and not hijack regular Tribe Chat!

Survivor, Fozzy asks, “Noticed y'all have a rather interesting selection of firearms, especially y'alls Colt Paterson. Was wondering if we will be seeing more of them, namely Old Western guns, like some lever guns or possibly a Sharps/Joslyn carbine. “


Sounds like that might be bust suited to a mod ;)

Survivor, cels asks, “My question would be is there anything planned to maybe curb people from going about just killing themselves as a easy way to "cure" the disease? Maybe diseases are persistent through death.. or the chance of it spreading upon death as well for those who come close to your corpse? Or both...”


They will persist beyond death for that character, until cured. Which in some cases will be quite difficult ;)

Survivor, cels also asks, “Would gear or items we are carrying while having specific diseases have the possibility of spreading the disease onto items which others can possibly infect themselves with if they take?”


Haha, currently just blood packs (which can be infected without indication!) but that’s an amusing idea to consider ;).

Woah, 3 of my questions were answered! I'm honoured. :P
Well @Jat I very much look forward to the new redwoods (possible non-desert new biome?), the EMP (Eels hmmmm ;)) and playing Russian roulette with every blood pack! :D
In regards to the 4th boss being an alien mythical creature... I love this game...:Torpor:

In response to this, will the private/unofficial server owners and/or solo players be able to disable the diseases on their servers?

Some will not want to play with those.

The blood won't be infected with a disease unless the person who drew the blood had a disease. It's not a nerf, it's just a way to transfer disease from player to player. So if you made yourself an antidote, purposely got infected with a disease, drew a bunch of blood, and then took the antidote, you have a biological weapon that you can infect other players with. Knock them out, and force feed them your infected blood, and boom.

EDIT: Realized a joke I made was distasteful, removed it before anyone could be offended.
