The Community Crunch is where we share important things going on with ARK, as well as host contests and showcase creations made by the community! Let's get started with some news.

Upcoming Turret Change

Over the past few weeks, we have been carrying out analysis on our Official Servers to see where we can improve server performance and what the biggest difference is currently versus Early Access. Since ARK went retail, we were expecting to see our servers have better performance due to optimisations, better allocation and usage of hardware, and improved DDoS mitigation. What we have learnt is that there has been a dramatic change in how turrets are being used on Official Servers. The fundamental issue is that tribes are not only significantly increasing the number of turrets they use, but reducing the space they occupy, so the server is having to do more calculations in denser areas. In some cases, we've seen an increase of 7x versus the previous server-profiling data we had. It is clear that we need to make a change in regards to how turrets are placed, but we understand that they are an important part meta-game on Official PvP servers and therefore want to give you as much notice as possible.

With the following change, we are expecting a performance increase of 50% on average for our Official Servers (extreme cases up to 300%) and this will have an impact on all maps.

Starting from today on PC (and next week on console), you'll receive an update which indicates the number of turrets you have within 10k units. When you exceed 100 turrets within 10k units, there will be a warning placed on the turret to inform you, so you can make adjustments as necessary. On December the 5th, we will flick a switch on our Official Servers which will disable all turrets that exceed the allocated limit. You have the period from now until then to make any changes you want to avoid your turrets from being turned off. Once the turrets are within the permitted amount, they will function again. This patch will also allow the mounted minigun turret to shoot non-mounted tames, but reduce their range to be the equivalent of the auto turret.

In accordance with this change, we will also be increasing the damage of autoturrets and TEK turrets by 20%, increasing the item slot count of autoturrets by 50% on the 5th of December.

The turret limit will effect: Plant Species X, Autoturrets, and TEK Turrets.

So remember, you'll see the visual change first and will have a couple weeks to prepare for the actual change which prevents turrets from being used over the limit. This is all enabled through a server-setting which can be used in the game.ini:

  TLDR:  Turret usage had changed since the game went retail, it has been having a huge negative impact on the server. We will be introducing a limit to how many can be placed within a certain radius on the 5th of December. On PC a patch will be deployed today to inform you of the limit so you can make changes as necessary (and next week on console also). The change affects Plant Species X, Autoturrets, and TEK Turrets. We will also be buffing auto turrets, tek turrets, and minigun turrets.

ARK Play Anywhere!

This is just a brief update on ARK: Play Anywhere, as we know a lot of you are excited about it (as are we!). It will be entering final submission this week for Xbox One (OneX) and Windows 10. We are expecting to complete the cert process in December for a release alongside Aberration. Alongside this, we plan to launch some Official Servers which will support CrossPlay but will not be enabling it for our entire network, due to anti-cheat mitigations. Unfortunately, TruePlay is not quite ready yet but we are hopeful that BattlEye will be able to make it onto the platform, until then we won't be doing much crossplay on our Official Servers, however, players will have the option to enable crossplay on their servers, be it hosted on an Xbox, PC, or rented through Nitrado.

ARK Sponsored Mod Update!

It's that time of the month where we announce new mods entering the sponsored mod program! We've seen our fair share of maps, total conversions, rebalance, and creature mods but not often do we get to share mods that are tools that benefit other modders. This month we are excited to announce one of those mods, ArkFrame created by ZenRowe.

This isn't the typical mod you might find yourself subscribing to because it doesn't actually contain end-user content. It is essentially a standardization library that modders can use.  To most people browsing through the workshop, this wouldn't typically catch their eye. They are more likely to browse through the workshop and find they are already subscribed to it!

Why is this mod important for the program and Ark? It will, in time, create an easier way for people to get into modding by standardizing some of the most common functions.

ARK: 2x Evolution Event Weekend!

Survivors across ALL Platforms will be receiving a special Evolution Event perk this weekend! It's already live now and will remain active until Monday the 20th at 12 PM EST. All Official Servers will be undergoing this evolutionary change which includes:

2x Harvesting Rate
2x Taming Rate
2x EXP Rate
2x Maturing
2x Hatching
2x Gestation
2x Faster Mating Interval Rates

ARK: Survival Evolved and the Scorched Earth Expansion Pack now include support for NVIDIA Ansel -- a revolutionary new way to capture in-game shots.  Compose shots from any position, adjust with post-process filters, capture HDR images in high-fidelity formats, and share the screenshots in 360 via a smartphone, PC or VR headset.

Now let’s get to the contest!

There were 3 potential categories for survivors to enter their shots into and they were the following:

Three Categories

Super Resolution: These should be taken at 8x Super Resolution. Players can optionally use Depth of Field effects accessible in Spectator mode by pressing the [Delete] key.

Panoramic 360 Stereoscopic 3D: These should be taken at 4x Super Resolution,  in 360 Stereoscopic 3D mode. We will crop them to 2D for web display, while also providing the 3D version for viewing within VR display.

Freeform: Any settings, whacky and creative use of Ansel filters are encouraged. Adding humorous titles/captions in Photoshop is also acceptable for this category!

So since legacy has started, all these "performance changes" you guys have made have been terrible. However, this update definitely, without a doubt takes the case. With a 100 turret limit, there is no physical way to possibly defend any base in this game, from a full server invasion. Has the dev team even seen how raids are in their game recently? Slot capping a server, 35 people against 35 people, 10s of brontos and paracers tanking bullets. 100 turrets will not, it will never defend against any force with the current meta. You will lose every mega tribe if this goes through, because no one will ever want to even attempt to defend a base with 100 turrets. This is just another example of wildcard trying to take shortcuts to improve performance by limiting tribes from growing. This is ridiculous

People cries because servers are laggy and unstable. They gather data and see that turrets are being overused and are draining performance. They makes adjustment. They also warn players and give them 2-3 weeks to revisit their defense. People are still crying. Conclusion, crybabies gonna cry and will never be happy no matter what. 9_9

Did you miss the part where they said they were buffing their damage and amount of slot? So basically, you are gonna deals more damage per bullet meaning that you will have to grind less for same amount of damage dealt... do you like to grind bullets that much? How about you grind them for everyone?

Holy poop. I thought you guys were dumb before but are you serious. So let me get this straight you think buffing turrets will make up for it? To the ppl that are for this are probably beach noobs with no turrets. Any alpha or big tribe, like youtubers that bring money in for you guys and my tribe included will be quiting. Theres no working with 100 turrets. You take out tame cap, so we have around 500 dinos how am i suppose to defend that with 100 turrets? Impossible, every base will be meat ran and ark is officially going to die out. Should've thought this through more or let amazon run your servers if you cant handle them. Just like the duping thats not a efficient way to fix it all and this one actually breaks the game. You limit everything by doing that. The game now has a end to the grind. Give ppl that little of time to compact the base and stops what progress they were doing to start over AGAIN? you guys seem to listen to all the feed back as much as you can this one needs to not go through its a mistake, just like the flyer nerf it'll be reversed but by that time 50% of ark players will quit with this one. Not just saying it its guaranteed to happen. Goodluck you guys hope you realise it. RIP ARK

Time to tame griffins only pump hp and suicide with rockets into turret walls and effectively raid a base with one rocket divebomb after destroying 10+ turrets.

If you're going to lower the turret amount, then buff the hp to survive 2-3 rockets and put the built saddle tame limit down to 100. You're going to have 15 brontos just rushing bases when this update hits. Killing your own game i dont understand it. Who the heck is in charge and WHY?

So you're telling me that wildcard still has no idea how to balance their game or fix important exploits? Tell me something new. They need to fix stego bombing before they decide to remove turrets, (which was a mistake that they implemented when they added target players) and before that they should fix all of the other glitches that have plagued their game since it was released to early access. Ever had your dinos flying upside down? That's existed forever. 100 turret limit is completely insufficient. Do you even know how this game is played???? Hell, Dinos still fall through the map sometimes, and items do as well sometimes. There are still places you can just get 100% stuck, in both caves and the overworld, and collision boxes for babies are still broken as well. Ever run into a a baby gigas tail? There are still caves where you can't walk cave tames through (direwolf/sabertooth) even though visually it looks like it should fit 100%. You need to quit giving us unrealistic release dates for dlc that we don't need and fix the base game wildcard. If by some miracle you do read this and take player feedback and use it to fix certain things in game, you need to look at pvp as a seperate game mode from pve and make changes accordingly. Everytime you add a new update, you break something else. A recent example would be the invisible phoenix bug. Do you even check the code you're writing? How do you break something unrelated to what you're changing??? If i didn't know better this turret patch will erase tames on turret mode as well. Your dino policy for glitched tames is BS and half of the time your GMs don't even show. Hell my post here is making me question why i even play your game. Oh that's right. Dinosaurs. Team wildcard, please, do a better job.

I can see why turrets would be a problem, seeing as my tribe would compact layers of them to the heights of behemoth gates pretty scary looking might I add, and every single one takes an item up in the area which can slow things down once that limit starts to fill up, but that applies to everything you can build though.

Have you seen the distance? Your auto turret towers are going to have to be out of range from other turrets. Complete bs
