Ganelon
Correct me if I am wrong, but my observation is that there are only two locations for damage resist/multiplier: Head Not Head Try Not Head.

Wazzamaniac
Bears have a high torpor/hp ratio, therefore its recommended to use darts to avoid killing them, like gallis, dunkles and anglers
Leeleilol
Use only darts !
Deadpool00012
I tranqed out a 145 with a mixture of headshots and bodyshots yesterday with a normal crossbow doing 35 damage per shot. Try using a normal crossbow, journeyman does too much damage. I think I used around 50 arrows.

DarthaNyan
Put a couple of poison traps where you are tranqing them. Helps to build initial torpor without damage.

Bears don't have head damage multipliers.. They have low health to torpor ratio.. I, personally, use a magnifying glass and a taming pen, they'll start running when they get torpored up a bit, I run up behind them and check the torpor/health at this point to visually see how much damage and how much torpor i am doing (their health gains faster than their torpor drops so you can feasibly stay ahead). I space my shots 4 to 5 seconds apart, narco traps to get an initial jump on the torpor also help.
