Welcome to Unevolved Gaming today we are going to take a closer look at the Basilosaurus

The Basilosaurus is a large aquatic mammal that shares some physical similarities with a Humpback or Blue Whale. It has a long stretched slender body with a head that looks like a mixture between an Ichthy and a Mosasaurus.

The Basilosaurus can be found in the shallow parts of the ocean surrounding Herbivore island and in the cold northern waters that surround the Islands snow biome.

Unlike many other large marine animals, the Basilosaurus is not aggressive towards survivors and their tames unless provoked. However, being cautious around this creature is highly advised due to Megalodons patrolling the waters around them and the fact that they are commonly surrounded by a large group of Manta's and Ichthy's that can swarm survivors and creatures that come to close.

To kill a Basilosaurus it is best to use a strong mount or ranged weapons such as a crossbow or a harpoon launcher.
A dead Basilosaurus can be harvested for raw prime meat, hide and oil. It's inventory can also contain Basilosaurus Blubber which is needed to summon the Dragon boss on beta and aplha difficulty.

Before attempting to tame a Basilosaurus it is best to either use a fast mount like a Manta or Ichthy to lure away all surrounding animals or to use a mount such as a Baryonyx to attack nearby creatures before being swarmed.

The Basilosaurus is a passive tame. It can be tamed with all kinds of meat or fish however, it prefers Therizinosaurus kibble, raw mutton, Raw prime meat or raw prime fish meat.

To tame a Basilosaurus it is advised to use scuba gear, survivors that don't have access to scuba gear can always use Lazarus chowder or a Diplocaulus to extend their stay underwater.

To feed the Basilosaurs place it's food in the last slot of your hotbar and press the Y button on your controller to feed it.The Basilosaurus will have a longer waiting period in between the first and second feeding, after the second feeding this waiting period will be decreased.
Survivors will also have to keep in mind that when you feed a Basilosaurus it can create a red bloody cloud around its mouth that can attract other animals near it.

A saddle to ride the Basilosaurus can be crafted in the smithy when a survivor reaches level 60.

It is not advised to use a Basilosaurus in deep water as they take damage due to high pressure at the bottom of the ocean. The Basilosaurus is therefor better suited to stay in shallow waters where it can regenerate it's health fast.
The Basilosaurus also has a unique capability to protect it's rider from extreme temperatures, this might come in handy for survivors with low fortitude and also allows players to partially wear a flak armor to ad protection along with their scuba tank.

The Basilosaurus is the only mount that protects itself and it's rider from taking damage from the electric shock given by the Cnidaria and Electrophorus
Due to this unique ability the Basilosaurus is an extremely effective mount to gather bio toxin from Cnidaria corpses.
The Basilosaurus can also not be grabbed by the tentacles of the Tusoteuthis which makes collecting black pearls a lot easier

A Basilosaurus will generate up to 20 oil in it's inventory over time. This oil can be used in the same way as regular oil, the only difference is that the oil generated by the Basilosaurus has a spoil timer.

In my opinion the Basilosaurus is one of the best mounts for underwater exploration. Even though fighting alpha predators is not advised, an experienced rider can defeat most other underwater predators depending on their level including the Tusoteuthis. Upgrading stamina and health on the Basilosaurus might prove useful before bringing it to battle.

The ability to withstand the Cnidaria's shocks and the Tusoteuthis grapple make the Basilosaurus the safest mount to collect bio toxin and black pearls for any tribe.

That concludes our spotlight on the Basilosaurus
