isu
Why do you even care for number of generations? Only stats + mutations are important and if they were passed on their children.

Well I saw some 320 pteras , and that might be cool to have also
Harrist14
Generation isn't important, just combining your best stats into one breed. Also, as far as I'm concerned, wild dinos are first generation, their babies are second, and so on.

hsaK
Yeah, as @Harrist14 suggested. You dont have to care about the number of generations. Most times you have to take some tries, to get the wanted stats from the parents. So over some generations (and as stated, the numbercount is not relevant) get the highest stats together and that is the key to get high levels. I would recommend to read some entrys in https://ark.gamepedia.com (linked in the top bar of this forum!), at least the species site you wanna breed (e.g. https://ark.gamepedia.com/Pteranodon) and https://ark.gamepedia.com/Breeding. Also very helpful is this tool: https://github.com/cadon/ARKStatsExtractor/releases/tag/v0.22.4 with this one, you can extract dino levels even if they are leveled and it also includes a library to get an oversight. Helped me a lot.
GoodOmenz
This website is great for working out possible stats http://ark.gamepedia.com/Breeding There is a table a little way down that explains the % chance and also what you need to look our for in terms of points against each attribute. You can also work out your max dino level possible.
szabiferi
Even the first generation can be great, if you mate two pteras who have great ability point distribution. Eg of the male ptera have excellent HP and Stamina and the female ptera have excellent weight and damage stats. (food, oxygen and speed irrelevant stats). The baby have 70% chance the iherit the better stat from a parent, so it may happen it will inherit the HP and Stam stat from the father and the weight and damage from the mother. There you go, you have your excellent first generation of ptera. Indeed, mathematically possible you tame in the wild 4 pteras, which excel only in one particular ability, and to have their child all the best abilities from the 4 ancestor will require 3 or 4 generation. Everything depends what kind of pteras you can find in the wild. That will control how many generations you need to get the ultimate ptera (for you).
