Mod Idea for FFA PvP Arena game mode.

Core of this idea is implementing a currency system. What I have imagined is something like the capitalism mod where there is an item that's used as a currency (a coin preferably) and bunch of Buy Tables that sells all in-game items. This diminish farming aspect of the game so players can focus on killing each other more.


The map is divided into two areas. Beginning Zone and Battlefield.

Beginning zone is located somewhere not on the map(in the air or underground) and has Buy Tables where players can buy all sorts of in game items with coins.

There will be Buy Tables for armor, weapons, ammo, consumables, traps and tames. When purchasing tames, they come with a saddle (if available for creature) just like survival of the fittest. Obviously, better items and tames cost more coins.

For simplicity’s sake, there will be no Buy Tables for structures in FFA.  

Everything inside the Beginning Zone is indestructible & invincible. Players and tames are invincible while in the Beginning Zone.

Beginning Zone has a teleporter that sends players into a random area inside the Battlefield.

 

Battlefield is portion of The Island map walled off by a barrier that acts as map border. Before the match begins, players vote which biome/map to play in. There is beach, forest, redwoods, snow, swamp, cave and mountain biomes to choose from. Barrier is placed around portion of the map with chosen biome then inside of the barrier becomes the Battlefield. Within it, there are spawning wild creatures as well.


The game starts out with players spawning in the Beginning Zone.

Players spawn with certain amount of coins in their inventory. Which they will use to purchase their beginning items/creatures then jump into the Battlefield. Once inside the battlefield, players cannot return to the Beginning Zone except by dying for respawn.

 

Once inside the battlefield, players kill each other to obtain scores. Higher your score, more coins you’ll start out on your next respawn. Players can also obtain coins in their inventory while in the Battlefield for killing other players or taming a creature. (Taming speed is reasonably sped up). They can spend these coins they get on the Battlefield by crafting a Buy Table which can be placed anywhere on the ground. All engrams are unlocked so players can craft anything they want on the spot by harvesting resources. But structures engrams are disabled as mentioned above.


 

Dead players will respawn at Beginning Zone with starting coins appropriate for your score.

Score is determined by player kills and creature kills, with player kills being worth more points.

First player to reach the designated amount of points wins, or player that has the highest points when the match timer runs out wins.

Player experience and leveling could go two ways. Either disable it altogether and give all players premade stats, or use the one from SoTF.

 

Overall, I think this would make balancing this game mode much simpler since you can just adjust the prices of each items in the Buy Table.

I also think starting out with a simpler and smaller scale FFA mode like this would be a good way to go. Then if the mod generates interest, add more modes like small team matches. If small team matches does well too, then add bigger team matches. Also, adding a feature to join matches that are already in process would be nice. It would certainly make the mod more accessible.
