Good deeds in ARK?

I do good to the guys/girls who deserve it. Like yesterday, there was a new guy to ark. He was asking for people to build walls and stuff for him, so myself and 2 of my tribe mates farmed him about 500 wood each, left him to it as we were hunting for a high level rex to tame (got a 130 in the end) on our way back we went over his base and seen he had made a nice little home for himself, we even dropped off a level 100 argy, which died a few hours later as he took on something a little bit too big for him and his lack of experience.

Now on the other side of the coin, a few months back I had a guy constantly visit our base, sneak in and start turning our generators on and off to waste our fuel.

We managed to get him into our pen which was 8 walls high with no roof, we left him there while we went about our business stopping by once in awhile asking him if he's still having fun trolling us, needless to say he either starved or froze to death a few hours later, while he was begging us to let him out. I've never seen him again.

Keep in mind his trolling went on for days before we took action.

It's nice to help sometimes. People have helped me out of the blue before so why shouldn't I return the favour?

Had a guy a couple of weeks ago appear in chat. "yay" he said. "I've just teamed my first dino".

"Cool "says I. "What is it?".  "A trike" he replied and I thought that was pretty good for a first tame.

I asked if he was short of anything and he said maybe some better armour but that's about it. He didn't live far from me so, being as I was busy making some kibble, I told him to come to my place and I'd give him some. His next message told of how his trike was stuck and as I was typing telling him to do the whistling thing he said they were both dead from a Carno.

So, feeling guilty, I went to his place on my Trike. I gave him a set of metal armor, metal weapons and the trike I rode in on. I even harvested on route so it was full of goodies too.

Yes, you do have to be careful how much you give new players. Just giving them a couple of bits that may help them avoid a few deaths could be the difference between them staying or going.

Sometimes we go to a white drop take out all the crappy stuff but 1 item and put in about 1000 hide, make's for a nice surprise for a noob thinking he's getting a few thatch items.

I'm liking that idea, just hoping that someone picks up the beacon before it despawns or its a bit of a waste :( It gives me a good reason to clear all my green armours out of our storage as they are getting full and there is only so much armour you need to store.

I just wanted to share my experience about something that happened yesterday.

First some context. I play solo on PvE because I don't feel like I would enjoy days of work to be destroyed by some random tribe. I also like to help people around the server, giving eggs I have for imprinting, helping a player find his bird, etc. The server as a whole is full of nice people ready to help, however I didn't expect what happened last night.

I was trying to find out what happened to my ptera I lost, some guy found it but then said it dissapeared. I was then suggested to look at my log by hitting L. As I was not in a tribe, there were no logs to see. Then came my big mistake. I created a tribe to see If there would be some kind of log with my dinos activity. Of course, there was nothing as my dinos were not in the tribe prior. Realizing I had no advantage to create a tribe at the moment(I'd rather have it known that I'm solol then have a tribe with a random name), I disbanded the tribe.

This of course dropped me from the Ptera I was currently on and killed me. As I was trying to respawn, I could see that my bed was gone. At this point I was pretty sure about what I just did. So I proceeded to run back to my base, an outpost built on the water that took me around 1200 pillars to build, to find out that all my stuff belonged to this tribe that didn't exist anymore.

Here comes the good part(looking back the story about all this all happened is pretty funny too). I then asked around for some help, I had no Tools, no clothing, no dinos, no nothing, everything was locked. The answers I had were amazing, 3 different tribes started helping me out.

One guy asked me if I wanted to join his tribe, as I didn't feel like building back up right away. I accepted because I had been thinking about this for a while(was trying to get into breeding and this is hard as a solo player)

Another guy gave me a 185 Ptera for me to fly around.

Another one gave me a Quetz! A Quetz! My old base didn't even have one(I was at the rex part of the kibble tree).

When I found out about my base, I was about to leave the server and never comeback(ragequit much), but the overwhelming answers I got from other members was just so amazing that I'm going to stay on this server in the end.

Sorry for the long post. And if someone from my server reads this and recognize himselft. Thank you again, so much.

Now all I have to do is set up a timer to go claim my dinos back and destroy my base to get my gear back.

Karma is real people! Be nice and someday you will get it back!

  • 2 weeks later...

Great story to read. Quite warming which is a good thing on a long Thursday afternoon just before Easter break.

I had a recent experience last week that I am still not sure what to make of it.

We play on the Centre/Center and our base is loacted at Jungles Mid - a lot of players seem to spawn there and lay a place on the beach just up from our base.

So I was out on our Rex getting some meat in for the troughs when I see a new player in a little thatched hut getting attacked by a Therizino. He didnt survive long and the Theri was still attacking his base. I saw him spawn back in and asked if he wanted any help.

'No, Im good' was his reply.

Confused, I asked if he wanted me to take out the Theri and he again said 'No, he likes playing solo'.

I wandered off up the beach slightly bemused and not sure what to make of it. Since then there have been about 7 or even 8 huts which have been placed around and are half torn apart and Im sure they are all his.

Well, I tried to be nice, he just didnt want my help :(

On the little server I'm on, everyone has been so nice helping everyone else.  My next goal once I get some decent walls up and start breeding proper is to just set up a little pen with unlocked boxes of supplies and adoptable dinosaurs for newbies who happen by (with a big ol' "Free to a Good Home" sign out front).  My area is relatively safe, only really marauded by camelsauruses. (and the occasional pesky dilo) I hope to be able to put out some scorpions, maybe a few raptors, and some theris:x once I figure it all out.

On my server (PvE), the +34 mod is run once a month, its called the "If you go down in the woods today" event. Most of us long timers are all allied and we collaborate heavily during the different events that the server does run, though the "If you go down" event is like, the rare monthly event that everyone spends most of the month planning for. What high level they want to find/get, how will they get it back to a safe tame spot, where to look, who will be helping who with what, that sort of thing.

Lo and behold on the day of "if you go down in the woods" some new bros started up on the server and got the rather nasty surprise of a level 950 raptor wasting them and then setting to work munching on their base. Following seeing all the panic in chat and overhearing where they were building, I set out on Turkey Num Nums and found the location. A few dead bodies scattered around a wood hovel at the base of a cliff on Tropical Island North, and an angry black raptor chewing on the base walls, the new bros trapped inside.

I managed to pick it up which allowed them to tranq it out and tame it up. also gave them the run down about the events on the server as I didn't want them to think the server was always this OP, they just chose the worse day of the month to start out, lol.

To top it off, the next day was Revenge of the dino day which gives wild dinos a huge resistance bonus over humans and tames, so I believe they may have lost it. Thats a good day to spend building around in your base :D  but they have now bounced back and have a huge skybase up on a cliff in the snow.

I'm almost always giving advice, at least, for playing the game. Some people I have helped with bp's, crafting things for them, or even giving eggs or dinos. I have, though, slowed down some on the last part, because my dino population is down, a little, and I'm not ready, yet to really breed. However, I almost always give some time, etc. to helping out people. And there are some people who I rescue dinos from, because they are good people, and give decent dinos away, and I use them in my own barn to breed, or will use to breed, them. Anyway, I helped someone out the other night with a saddle, and I cleaned up, mostly, one base that someone abandoned.

I like to help people out when there's an opportunity to do so.

In my tribe's city we have an inn with a guest stable, unlocked and stocked with goodies for anyone who stops by. Tools, hide (for very new players), private rooms that we can pincode if requested, and basic amenities like a preserving bin with sparkpowder that will eventually be upgraded. There's even a private suite for tribes that has some crafting stations included. The city is safe from wild animals but the stable affords that extra level of protection, particularly for birds or small tames that might easily get lost otherwise.

We built on weathertop and our port also happens to include the player spawn point in the area. So players now spawn on our lighthouse deck and have a helpful sign letting them know they can cross the bay and find shelter if they need it. The deck itself isn't completely safe (I find raptors running around on it on a regular basis), but it does afford some protection nonetheless.

Other city amenities for guests include visitor docks, a public industrial forge conveniently located in the harbor for easy access, and we do allow people to collect eggs from our farm animals when we're offline. I suppose these aren't really good deeds per se, but we did put considerable tribe resources and expense into providing these things for others to use.

As for actual actions, let me think here...

One of the other tribes on the server (a duo) was having a hard time taming a quetz so I donated two fertilized eggs from our best (at the time) pair so they would each have one. I also raised a quetz I was going to cull (not the stats I wanted) and sold it to someone else for an extremely good price. I consider it a good deed because the price was definitely not worth the effort to me, I hate raising quetz and avoid it as much as possible, but they needed a bird and couldn't raise it themselves that weekend. I traded it for I think 2k ingots, which is what would fit on my old hauler bird. Ridiculously low price.

We've given away/donated several animals. I even gave away one of my bred ankys (neutered of course I'm not that soft) to a returning tribe notorious for camping and claiming any and all tames as soon as their timers ran out. People would legit remind each other to reset their timers on Steam if they saw that tribe making their rounds to check the timers on every base. But hey that's just their playstyle, and at least that way they aren't taming all kinds of new things and filling up the server with more useless tames.

I've helped with tames quite often. There was some sort of emergency tame situation that required that duo tribe I mentioned earlier having to tame some new sarcos in a hurry for eggs so I grabbed my quetz and spent some time helping them. I'd grab a gator and fly it over to them, hold it above their base until they KO'd it, then repeat. I probably dropped off 4-5 sarcos that way.

I've been known to kite high level animals into our server's public taming pen to help other people out as well. Just last week someone almost lost their rex to a 130 they were trying to tame, so I used my spino to kite it all the way down the river to the pen and let them know I had secured it for them. They were pretty happy about that, said they'd about given up on it.

Oh and awhile ago I was taming a good allo for my collection and noticed a giga getting way too close to someone's base (and my tame). I alerted them and helped kite the giga away with my quetz, who was not at all happy about getting bitten by it. People on my server still freak out about them and don't usually build appropriate defenses for some reason, so they would have lost all their tames and probably most of their base; they wouldn't be the first person that happened to either.

If I see someone in need of it I also offer escorts for fresh tames if it's not something that can defend itself. This one doesn't come up that often though since almost everyone has at least one quetz these days. And of course I'm always happy to craft things for other people if they need them, such as Engrams I've learned that most people on my server haven't from being too low a level, or not wanting to spend Engram points on a particular saddle, like the Equus.

Every Sunday a tribe mate and myself go drop hunting on our spinos, it's our 'fun' time, we start off at the South point of Swamp(Centre map) and swim the entire ocean to North Snow, collecting all drops that spawn.

Once were done we keep the Bps and any pre made saddles above blue(App) and find people to give the rest to, then if were really bored we'll take our spinos inland and randomly start taming herbivores for anyone we should meet, we also tame random dinos for our alies, I gave one of them 2 Parasaurs and 2 dodos the other day(this is a pretty big tribe and they just laughed)

The same tribe mate i do the spino runs with, decided as we were taming a Giga the other day to tame 4 Moose and gave them away too

And we have our egg farm, pretty much if anyone needs imprinting kibble they come to us as were always happy to help

We've also on occasion gave away bred rexes, really high end pre made saddles(mc rex and giga),

We play PvP and its nice to help out when your not server raiding, an alliance tribe of ours even gave away a 150 tamed Giga a few weeks ago

I tried to do an honourable thing yesterday... I saw a lvl 15 female Spino chasing down a player who was armed with just a spear.

My bear made short work of the Spino only to be told to 'feck off' as he wanted to tame it.

The player was a lvl 22 and had a spear and in my most polite way I just said 'Im sorry' and then I wandered off slightly bemused.

So much for helping someone.

We saw two guys on our server building on top a metal spawn. While warning them to move or people would wipe them, we took them in and let them build next to us so they would have the protection our tribe has, and gave them strict rules to follow so they don't mess up our tribes name. We chat with them daily now, and yesterday when they helped with a metal run they didn't want any of the metal I still gave them 1k ingots. And today my other tribe leader put almost 10 crop plots on their house and filled them with PSX and fertilizer. Good deeds but to the same people almost daily.
