So what did you do in ARK today?

Ok, as most people have now decided what they are doing post patch, and hopefully most of the 256 feedback posts are slowly fading away - lets get back to what you guys actually did today.

Against what I just said above, I started a new char on another server as I didnt want to waste any time on my char on my prim+ official server. Im at a stage where I need my Quetz and Ptera and I just cant use them just now (hoping for a little buff, not much, just a little) so will wait a few weeks before returning.

So I went on a normal PvE Official ARK server and started in Jungles South - quite far along the river. It was definitely fun starting again from 0 and I got my little log hut up and running with my playing partner in no time at all. Then the RNG gods struck me down, a lvl 115 Therizino to the left of my base and to the right a lvl 50 Spino.

Died trying to kite them into each other. Spawned back and then managed to kite the Spino way down the beach before it lost interest. My next hr was slow work, rarely advancing anywhere other than the local treeline.

Then help arrived in the shape of a guy on a T Rex. He killed both, I said thanks and he walked off back to his own world... I then got back to work in collecting my resources. Ive now a stone hut, plenty of metal and res and hit lvl 30 - all in a 4hr playing period... happy days!

This is yesterday, not today as sadly I can't play much during the week:

First I put up 4 S+ item collectors around our egg farm. Sadly we're not currently able to generate large quantities of propellant but I had enough for the day mainly to test it out. Very convenient, will be happy to have those doing all the annoying egg pickup work, especially around the small animals. I rarely use mod items, but given that none of my 4-man tribe has a lot of daily play time anymore, I'm doing my best to upgrade the utility of what we already have so we spend less time maintaining the city and more time doing whatever it is we want to do.

I then continued my hunt for the elusive unicorn and/or high level horse. I tamed one level 10 equus on Saturday just to test it out and I decided I really like them. They have a fair amount of utility and can travel long distances swiftly. Kicking annoying things in the face is always fun too.

I saw someone trying to tame a 130 rex and having a hard time of it, so I lured it down the volcano river to the server's public hatchery and taming pen and got him in there. It took awhile, but we got it done.

And off again to look for horses. It took quite a long time but I eventually came across a 145 male equus. The only problem was it was pretty far out from home base, none of my tribemates were on, and there were a lot of problematic animals in the area. I took down as many as I could and while doing so, the horse got himself stuck between a couple of small trees. My lucky day! After waffling for awhile I took the chance, jumped on his back and started shoving kibble in his mouth. He did get unstuck and ran wild, but thank the Arks for large mounts with low ground clearance. He kept getting stuck under my spino Korotangi's belly. She was unimpressed with the whole affair, but waited patiently until the successful tame.

So thankful you don't need the saddle to mount, it was an easy ride home. Ride the horse, put the spino on follow and let her dispatch anything in the way. We made it home safely. I never name a fresh tame until its safely inside the walls. Named him Talal, after a character in a book I recently read.

Threw a saddle on Talal, left Korotangi at home and went off to go exploring a bit. Sadly, a stupid bird stole the rest of my kibble (enough for 2 more max level equus) so I went back to the public hatchery to restock, as it has a few small groups of rare/annoying to tame animals for anyone to collect eggs from. Got enough for a 150 and was heading home when disaster struck. Microraptors ambushed us in that one small strip of river by the volcano where they spawn. The commotion attracted dilos and troodons. Being stunned, all I could do was watch my new horse get attacked, didn't even have any level points invested in him yet. Crap.

Eventually I died, respawned in the city and grabbed the closest spino I could find--my tribemates' Rogue. Sprinted all the way back to the river from Weathertop and saved Talal, but only just barely. Whew. Gave him a few minutes to regen a little bit while I collected my gear, started home and got hit by microraptors a second time. Thankfully Rogue was having none of that and got rid of the little buggers. I almost lost Talal a second time when passing between the edge of the redwood and the swamp, when we got attacked again but Rogue was just a little too far away to "see" the attack and help, had to go ride back to him. That was scary.

By the time we made it back into the safety of the city gates again, I was done for the day. It was too close to an event from the patch when gallis were first released. I tamed one, took it out for a test ride and it got stuck in some rocks/trees and was hit in the crossfire of a wild rex vs. bronto, died before I could even chop down the tree she was stuck on. And unlike the galli, the horse is actually useful, so I want to hold onto Talal. He doesn't have any standout stats but he'll do well enough as he is. Just far away from micoraptors.

I had a frustrating day yesterday. First time I played since the patch. I've always had memory issues and crashes, but yesterday was a bad day... it crashed every 15 tot 30 minutes and what was worse: when I reloaded I was back at the point before those 15-30 minutes. So I ended up doing the same stuff up to 4 times before I finally got to play for about an hour. In the end I managed to do a crystal run in the lower south cave, and I've build another fridge and 2 greenhouse roofs. That's about it.

I also noticed that at least 2 of my little outposts have completely vanished. So today and the next few days will be all about checking my other outposts and start rebuilding them if they are gone. I'm single player so it might take a while. Let's hope it will not crash so often again.

Positive note: I managed to kill a Therizino! Me so happy. Those damn things are my biggest nightmare so far - aside of troodons. Until yesterday an encounter with such one was a sure recipe for a quick death. I shot it with my bow from the roof of my base and my 2 pteranodons rushed to help and killed the ugly level 5-ish thing. I gave those 2 a nice extra stack of meat afterwards ;)

Whohoo! I tamed my first solo tame on the ARK... a lvl 25 Dodo. Started a new Official server and as I've only played Prim+ before with friends, I needed to get dinos from scratch.

Usually we all go and tame stuff together, so I had to it all by myself for once. Tonight, I'm going to get a raptor off the beach as the base it built now, behemoth game and a garage on the side for my dinos.

Decided to leave my Prim+ server for a few days as I kind of lost interest for now. Enjoyed starting from scratch even if I was constantly hounded by high lvl Theris and Spinos haha

Had a surprisingly productive Ark day today.

First of all, I wasn't even planning on playing. But when I got home from work I saw one of my tribemates on so I decided to join him for a bit. Due to time zones and schedule conflicts we rarely get a chance to play together anymore, so I wanted to see what he was up to.

Nothing, as it turned out. One of my other tribemates also got home from work, saw us on and he jumped on too, woo party lol.

I decided to take Korotangi out for a little swim to herb island, since I heard someone tamed a unicorn there. I wasn't really expecting anything but what do I see around the backside of the island but a white horse cantering about. A quick check in the spyglass confirmed I had found an elusive unicorn! No other horses around either, just her. Only level 10 but hey, it doesn't get much rarer than one wild one at a time so what the hey.

One of my tribemates came by with a quetz and some carrots, I grabbed the treats and hopped on, and I am now the happy owner of Snowmane the level 14 female unicorn. He was kind enough to carry her home for me as well since he had the bird and I had my spino.

Unfortunately due to breeding timers I decided not to check if regular equus can actually breed with a unicorn, and if they'd be able to pop out a baby unicorn if so. I would love to breed her with Talal and get a unicorn with useable stats, a level 14 isn't leaving the city without an escort no matter how cool it is. Maybe on the weekend I'll give it a go, depends on what's going on then.

Oh, interesting, I've not thought about the breeding of a unicorn.  Please let us know what you find out. :)

Out of curiosity, Talal from The Emperor's Blades?

As a matter of fact, yes. :) I finished it over the weekend, not sure yet if I want to continue with the second book or not as I've heard many opinions that it goes downhill after the first book, and I wasn't especially enamored of it to begin with.

Lol what a coincidence. I'm about 2/3 of the way through the second book, I'd say it's worth reading

Haven't logged in since 256 hit, whats the point....

After being wiped I spent a whole weekend gathering mats for an iron raft base (by pick axe), now it is parked on the shore waiting to get raided instead of out at sea because of the new Leeds. - Cant even be bothered logging in to see if its still there.

My experience with this game is, waste an enormous amount of time to achieve something trivial, path comes out and steals all your work e.g. spent three weekends in a row testing out breeding, got hit with feeding bug, drop through floor bug, poof bug. Three attempts, three different bugs, three times same result, login to find new baby gone.

Got wiped and built a new base (the iron raft) from scratch (by hand with no dinos) only to have WC introduce the Leed that can destroy a raft by ignoring defenses. Hours of work with end result all for nothing.

I love this game, i really do, i think its the best game to have been ever released! I just wish they would address the things that make it so we dont want to play anymore (mostly bug fix and stupid balance issues) intead of just blindly throwing content over the wall with no testing.

p.s. I realise we are the testers but ANY IDIOT can see adding a new dino that destroys hours of work while you  are offline IS A STUPID MECHANIC!

Same

I suggest you re-evaluate your gaming priorities and maybe go do something else with your free time if you have stopped enjoying this game, especially if you've played for thousands of hours.

It would be great for this game if all the toxic people quit and made room on the officials for new players :)

Looks like a lot of people just stopped playing.

My day.... well, I logged into scorched. DC'd in the middle of the map on a flyer, spent a while retrieving it.... (a bug like many bugs which they do not care to fix, instead they push there BS agenda we don’t care about.)

So funny.... and the arrogant idiots at wild card who blatantly ignore the customers think they are right which is even funnier. My day has consisted of reading what everyone is saying online. totally amusing that a company would actually hurt itself so badly... is that 22% of pc players quit in 1 day? LOL. I cant wait until they release this trash on XBOX and PS4. Will be LOL'z for days in the forums.
