So what did you do in ARK today?

I only played one evening the last week, due to being tired and other stuff to do. I had some trouble after a minor update getting my dino's to follow me. For some reason they now get stuck behind every little rock or tree. It was in the area west of the volcano, where it is a very rocky forest. At one point I tried for 15 minutes to move forward and I failed. rocks everywhere and my rex bumped into every little one of them. So frustrating. In the end I lost a rex because it stopped walking somewhere and I didn't notice (the other one was still stomping behind me). By the time I went back searching I arrived just in time to see it die from an allo and Theriz attack. Damn...

I am now tempted to take a break and try out the primitive+ mode.

Well last night had an unexpected development...

My evening started out as usual, a little late getting home from work but I still hopped on as soon as I was done eating dinner. Hopped on my still unnamed argent and did a metal run, gotta get that forge filled. Got that going and went for obsidian/crystal as well. I broke down the resources so I know exactly how much I need for 9 ACs, luckily they are pretty cheap. I was just thinking to myself how much I wished I had a spino to make pearls easier to get as I was flying home. I haven't gone this long on a new character without one since my true noob days, usually I just powerlevel to the saddle and tame the first one I see.

Well, what do I see chewing on my neighbor's spike walls but a spino. Never one to miss an opportunity, I lured it away from the spikes and straight into my own base, he walked right in the gates of his own volition. Mine now. Made sure I let him heal up, had to help him fight the 168 paracer that's been chilling in my base, no one wanted it but I hadn't felt inclined to kill it either. Then while he was running around eating dimos and snakes in the pen I grabbed my gear and got ready. I had a few shocking darts left, might as well use em, and of course some regular tranqs and my crossbow. And some narcs, remember when spinos were considered hard tames because of how many narcs they needed?

Anyway, I ended up chasing him all around the pen, spinos can be tricky when their torp gets high.

This is probably how 90% of successful spino tames end up lol, face in a cliff. Fun fact spinos cannot drown in water unless it's deep enough for them to swim in. So his face might be completely submerged but he is absolutely fine here. And the nice thing about being essentially in the swamp is nearly unlimited prime meats on demand. I'm not kibble taming one this low, he was only level 42, but even a bad spino is still a spino. I've done more with much less.

He stood up without incident and I got the saddle made, using up about half of my pearls. No matter, I can now easily access the shallow water pearls over by carno point with his protection. First however, we had to go do a few laps around Dead Island, as is tradition. Got about 20 levels and an ascendant crossbow from an alpha raptor, now that's a successful hunt right there.

By then it was late and I decided to call it for the night. We went home and although he has that whole nice swampy pen to play in I have him on guard duty by the house for now. Snakes are still getting in and I'm reluctant to build up further defenses when I know it's temporary as is. In the coming weeks I'll be doing a series of expansions until I have a fully functional ranch.

One of the reasons I'm prioritizing my hatchery, besides the boss rexes for the server events, is so I can buy a quetz egg. Then I can work on upgrading my utility animals and get an anky for maximum harvest production. Boy do I miss my bred ankys these days lol, never even got around to using them as working animals. But I have to admit I am very happy with my base on this server even in such a rough state, and not being obligated to a large number of animals I care absolutely nothing about. I have 7 tames right now and every single one of them is useful to me in some way. Even the one surviving dodo, who is currently holding a couple thousand rare flowers gathered by Tickler as I don't have the storage space for them otherwise.

Project Terror Bird has finally come to an end. I got the last missing bird today and I'm now no longer considered a horrible animal abuser after dismantling the breeding pens I had the birds in. We also got an unexpected melee boost on all our tames as we discovered that we weren't using the official multipliers (we thought we did, but it turned out we didn't and melee was the most affected by this). This means that my terror birds' base melee went from 396.4% to 425.7%. :D  It's still a shame I have the melee on the birds and not something more useful though...

So, I've now started another project, but for a completely different reason. There was a thread on the Steam forums where one survivor was wondering if WC had nerfed breeding, so that there was no longer a 70% chance of the babies getting the better stat from each parent. After some debating back and forth (I haven't noticed any of that sort, it seems the same as it has been since I started breeding), I decided to provide the data needed to determine if there has been a ninja nerf or not, and to do this, I've started breeding Dodos. I spawned in level 150 dodos and did a dotame on them, giving them a 100% taming effectiveness and thus stats that non-cheated dodos can only dream of. Of course I decided to see if I could get an ultimate dodo while I was at it, so after I had gotten six dodos with one good stat each and some extra females, I started the project. The goal of the project is to hatch a 1000 eggs and record how many of the best/worst stat each dodo has gotten. This project could also be called "Testament of Insanity", "I Have Too Much Time on My Hands", "I'm Crazy and Need Help" etc. etc... So many options...
Well, I've hatched 78 eggs so far, so I have a few more eggs to hatch before this project is done. :P

After being wiped cont...

Managed to get back to leather armour and a bow - killed by another troodon (about the fourth time so far)

Logged out while troodon was taking its time keeping me knocked out, but only hitting me once every 5mins.

Logged in 2hours later, was still knocked out, troodon was just finishing of the last of my hp.

Ran back, got my gear managed to gather berries and crap for another 10mins when i lagged out near a snake and was already torpord and knocked out before i could even react.

Logged out and called it a night while still unconcious and waiting to be slowly killed by the snake.

Pretty close to quitting all together - not worth taming anything as alpha tribes will wipe within 2weeks.

But running around without a dino and your just toast to every trodon pack.... and doing the base gather cloth/leather after playing this game for 1000s of hours? Getting really close to saying NO THANKS!

you can always join a unofficial server, if you are based in aus Try Sins of ark its a pretty good fresh server

Last night's primary mission was collecting the 405+ pearls I need for ACs. Not a hard mission, I just jumped on my new best friend and went out to the carno point area to gather lots of shallow water pearls. Had over 450 by the time I was done, not a bad haul. More than enough for ACs plus another generator and a fridge for the hatchery. I hate running cables long distances.

I stopped to check in on M's new place, the spot he picked is where A built before we tribed up after the last server wipe. He actually logged in right about then so of course I took the opportunity to scare him. :P No one expects a spino on their roof...

Anyway since I was in the neighborhood it was a good time for a hunt. M wanted a therizino for general harvesting and defense, as he is one of the most luckless people in Ark I've ever met. But not always. We figured out what the max level he could afford with the amount of kibble he had was and I went to check the theri I saw on my way over, chillin in the yard of my old territory. Bam, it was the exact max he could get. Called him over and got to work.

Man can they run though, its torp got high and it took off. A base speed spino is only slightly faster than a base speed theri, I wasn't able to cover ground quickly enough (kept tripping over pteras), and M was delayed by having to go jump on his bird. Long story slightly shorter, we lost it in the trees and spent a good 10 minutes finding it again because of course night fog.

Finally found it again alongside a cliff. Since it had deaggrod from me as soon as it got stuck on a small tree and the side of the cliff I came in behind and body blocked it, taking a few hits when it tried to run off again, but kept it securely in place. Finally we got it down.

I kept the spawns clear and took the opportunity to harvest a few nearby oil nodes while it tamed, then escorted M and his new tickle chicken home. I was pretty tired and it was getting late by then, so we went home and I logged for the night.

Managed to gather some enthusiasm to punch trees naked at lev 80 after being wiped (as usual).

After 2hours i had managed to find 3 separate packs of trodoons with the usual result.

Logged out again, having lost everything (leather armour+bow) 3 times over. Logged out in a state ready to start again naked hitting a tree....

Go unofficial and boosted, it's a lot less brutal on the rebuilds

Boosted unofficial servers, find a good one and you'll never look back my friend.

So this is less of a "what i did today" and more of the last two weeks, i switched from console to pc, now that console controller support is in, its much easier for me to play on my beastie. So in search of something different i went, tired i was, of the same old map, with the same old dino's, i wanted a real challenge, let me twll you, i found it.

Survival Plus, and not on any old map, on Ragnarok.

My first days where spent poking dilo's and dods with literally a pointy stick, not spear for me  not yet, they had to be earned now. Found some fert dilo eggs (taming is done either passively or through finding fert eggs in a nest in the wild) needed at least a little protection while i fought my way to the town.

Grabbed some dodo's made it to level 10 and got my starting stipend of gold and silver (there is and economy mod to make trading worthwhile), bought an apartment and a storefront, along with a bed to have a base of operations to work out of (no thatch hutting it in Survival plus).

Started working towards getting to level 30 and getting my first profession, Carpenter is what i snagged as its useful for certain aspects, including making parts ofr tools and weapons.

It is a long road hard traveled, with only Dilo's and Icthyornis to try and save my bacon, life is harder to get going on, luckily i have a safe haven in a well protected town. Trusty Parasaur by my side (no saddle as i currently cannot afford one, and dont have the mats needed (very different life in Survival).

Worked hard for a few days as a farm hand earning some extra coin while i work on leveling, bought a few mejo's and tamed up a Meso and a Jerboa, because i like little shoulder buddies, Named the Jerboa Tic Tac, because he will get tossed so i can run away and live. Bear in mind the most vicious thing you can tame in Survival are Terror birds and Dire wolves, no raptors or up in the carno category, no sabers. Even the herbivore category is pretty skimpy on the taming, not trikes or stegos even!

Got to level 15 and bought some carrots from the farmer, made the long treacherous journey to scotland to find myself a horse or two. Fought a few raptors, dodged some troodons and Pego's, ran as fast as i could from some carnos and Allo's, bola'd and killed some sabers, used my faithful tic tac to get away from a few rexes. but behold! Two high level Equus! Tamed with no complications, began the long trek home. Let me tell you, they are a total game changer once you have a mount in Survival, you can move more, carry more, have protection from smaller dino's.

Used my newfound friends to start gathering wood and titanomyrna mounds en masse, so i can get some copper going to make better tools and spears (remember Survival plus changes EVERYTHING).

By this point i bought a saddle for one of my Equus, have to protect that investment! And let me tell you, the saddle was an investment all on its own, due to the diffiulty of gathering, its very expensive!

After a few more excursions, i finally hit lvl 30 and got my profession, and started crafting in earnest. Go ta  wood chopping station, coal kiln and primitive forge going, Let the copper ingots flow! Spears and arrows, and copper tools are flowing now! Sales counters built, shop being filled, and customers flowing into the door, mostly browsers, but a few sales, nothing to enrich me too much. Buy a few things from the local blacksmith to craft better stuff to sell.

Poke around town, keeping an eye on prices and wares, go on gathering excursions, tangle with some more rexes and sabers, another successful trip! (Barely made it away with just a handful of hipoints on my horse).

Spend a few hours each day doing a little bit of farm work to make some side coin, and thats about where i am at now.

if you ever want a change oh pace from your normal building and taming, in a whole new world to explore, check us out on Ark Saints and sinners PvE, it is a glorious time!

Well, not every Ark day can be exciting.

I had hoped to get out of work early tonight, ended up getting home late, naturally.

Pretty much all I did tonight was gather mats and craft things. I made my 9 ACs and also a generator, outlet, fridge and some basic cabling. Then it was just swapping endlessly between the theri and the doed, farming up stone wood and thatch by the ton. I ended up with 7/10 stone behemoth gateways, 1/1 stone behemoth gates, and 32/90 stone fence foundations.

I don't do the whole gate wall thing, but I'm testing a brand new hatchery design that incorporates the gateways. Hopefully by this time tomorrow if all goes well I'll be able to share a hatchery that is not box shaped for once.

Tired after a long week at work, so I logged a bit early. Should be back at it by tomorrow afternoon to finish farming and set up the hatchery.

I started off with nothing except my regular character on a new server built a taming raft and tamed 2 trikes 3 turtles 4 dilophosaurs 3 dodos a car no and a raptor made some troughs for them helped a nearby new tribe get themselves some tames and gear to protect themselves and I'm mining metal to build a fridge generator and Chem bench

Yesterday was a hugely successful day.

I did get my hatchery set up, but it's one of the sloppiest builds I've ever done because I was impatient. I'll share screenshots after I raise a quetz and can properly gather resources to replace what I screwed up.

I also went on an extended drop run, collecting tons of kibble, good BPs and misc items. I really love the modified loot table on this server, no need for a kibble farm when you can just run white/green drops and fill your kibble fridge up. Not having to maintain 100+ egg animals is really fantastic and frees me up to focus on the animals I really want to have.

Unfortunately while going for a yellow drop on Red Peak, I got nailed by a 174 thyla. Didn't stand a chance. Grabbed my ptera and flew straight back. My argent, now named Smudge cause she's mottled white and grey, was fine. Luckily the thyla pounced me and not her, so she didn't glitch out like so many fliers do. So I got my bird back, dunno what I would do without her. Did lose all my stuff, including my newly acquired mastercraft pick. Oh well.

I took that as a sign I should take a break from drops and decided to do something else instead. Time for a hunt! It took forever but I managed to find and tame 3 high level microraptors, 2 males and a female. These things are some of the most annoying animals I've ever tried to tame, compounded by my need for high levels. It has to do with breeding, small animals need to have high HP for breeding, around 1k+ to maximize their chance to survive baby stage. They are cute up close though, glad I picked them as my 'fashion' animal. Can't wait to get some colors on them, their natural palette is extremely limited.

And of course I had to test the hatchery, yep it works. Kept the baby girl and now keep her father with me since it won't be a big deal if he dies, I have all my high rolls.

Since I had to stay in the area while she was growing up, I also got to work making a new foundation for what will most likely be a proper greenhouse.
