Dream Ark Concept!

The dream Ark concept is a thing I am currently "Developing". It will be a bunch of conceptual stuff which is well...Long and well thought out. It has been on my mind for a long time and tries to make Ark into something bigger. I'm already trying to develop the dossiers for the new creatures, and I will post the page below if anyone is interested. I will describe the many changes and new mechanics that I am currently developing for this new and amazing ark concept.

I know...Beautiful ¬¬

This was the first time "Making" a map. I didn't try that hard, and was mostly seeking to create a reference.

Dream Ark is largely based off of the Mediterranean sea and is meant to be 4x bigger than the Prime Ark. It holds an assortment of biomes including

  • Rainforests*
  • Tundra
  • Redwood forests
  • Desert
  • Volcano
  • Mountains
  • Grasslands
  • Swamps
  • Asiatic land*

*Means new biomes

The point of the map is to ensure that alpha tribes no longer have territory over the entire server, but rather have enough power to own a country. I find that this will make the relationship between tribes interesting as each biome has it's own resources and unique features that may not be found anywhere else. This encourages trade in between tribes since certain resources are harder to get than others. I'll explain them in a bit, but the amount of difference in between biomes is as different as the Prime Ark and the Scorched Earth. But first, characters.

Characters

While Helena did write the dossiers for the creatures of Dream Ark She only wrote the basic info about them. things like what they do when domesticated, their behavior, basic information, etc. There is another character who wrote indepth information about each of the creatures on Dream Ark. A young Japanese woman by the name of Kyoto wrote an in depth analysis of the ecology and the creatures of the island. In fact, the first of her journal entries that I will submit is of *hint* *hint* her analysis of the nasty and competitive relationship between the Bear-Otter and the Nothosaurus. She also talks of the environment around Dream Ark. Commenting on the scenery. The small island located east of the big island is named in her honor as Kyoto's Isle.

The second character, Viktor, is a Russian botanist. He will be the one who writes the plant dossiers, describing them in detail about how the plants work and their capabilities. He does speak a bit of...Broken english, but is understandable nontheless.

Phew...Now that that is out of the way, let's move on to the main part of the map THE BIOMES!

Biomes

Grasslands

The Grassland is the most basic land. While not favored by many for its vanilla style, farmers find the long hours of sunlight, not-so-hilly land, and fertile soil to be suitable for growing plants and establishing a settlement. While it has your basic resources, such as wood, stone, fiber, etc. It is mostly pushed away as a place for tribes to establish as a main territory.

Unique Resources

  • Fertile Soil
  • Savoroot, Rockarrot, and Longrass,(As well as other exclusive crops) can be gatherable here.
  • Abundant amounts of seeds for crops and fruits.

Weather conditions/Hazards

  • Not too many unique weather conditions. though the lack of shade does speed up plant growth along with the soil.
  • Hazards - None

ASiatic

Filled with serenity and peace, the Asiatic biome only exists on Kyoto's Isle and is famed for its unique and versatile resources and its exotic fauna. It is filled with bamboo forests with himalayan highlands being in the most northern most parts. Many beautiful landmarks can be seen on this island including the hot springs, a relaxing place for travellers to rest and a place of absolute peace. you heard me tribes SO DONT TRY TO KILL EACH OTHER AT THE SPRINGS FOR FUNSIES!>:(

Unique Resources

  • Asiatic Iron
    • Asiatic Iron is the most easily forgeable metal of all of ark. So simple that it does not need to be smelt down into ingots. It is quite common across the Island and is needed to make exclusive weapon
      • Tigerhooks
      • Katanas
      • Chain whip
  • Bamboo resource node
    • Bamboo can give you bamboo shoots or stems, the shoots can be eaten, while the stems are the most versatile resource in all of ark.
      • The stems can be used as a
        • A stick-like weapon or a spear.
        • A structure(Irrigation pipes)
        • A flute
        • An above average wooden material
  • Rice Plants
    • Source of food, can be grown in a crop plot with fertile mud.

Weather conditions/Hazards

  • Slight Heatwaves
  • Earthquakes*
  • Tsunamis*
  • Kamikaze winds**
  • Mist - Decreases water consumption, lowers temperature a little bit, and decreases visibility
  • Hazards - Other than weather, none.

*Occur VERY rarely, but are devastating none the less. Can be avoided with specialized structures. and is advised you do not build near mountains or the coast, as both are the danger zones, the only sure and safe place is the bamboo forest.

**Occur only on the coasts and in the waters around the island.

Desert

Nothing is more devastatingly dry than the vicious desert. Best known for its...Large amounts of high quality sand, the desert poses the same threats and resources as the scorched earth, with the exception of cactus seeds, large quantities of mineable salt (Sparkpowder), and high quality crystals such as diamond. There isn't really much to go on about it since Scorched Earth is almost exactly the same.

Mountains

High in the mountain ranges, the amount of rare resources and caves are plentiful. Mining tribes mostly settle here and put up with the nasty creatures that guard its treasures. Living off of food may be their largest issues, and while the weather on the mountain can only get as bad as the snow, that doesn't change the nasty rock slides and dangerous fauna. Tribes focus on owning the mountains for their abundant and diverse types of metals.

Resources

  • Gold
    • An extremely high quality metal. Can be used to make the best metal equipment.
  • Silver
    • An above average metal.
  • Marble
    • A quality stone. Unlike the metals, is extremely common throughout the mountain ranges.

Weather conditions and Hazards

  • Light snow
  • Rock slides
  • Altitude sickness

Rainforest

The rainforest is by far the MOST lush and diverse of all the biomes. Known for its almost constant rainfall, high quality fiber, large canopy trees, and diverse flora and fauna, the rainforest is a constant settlement for many tribes. Suviving off of food is by no means difficult thanks to the many fruits, though be careful of the poisonous ones. They are largely hailed for their unique, almost structure like plants, but hold many dangerous insects and creatures.

Resources

  • Exotic plants
    • The rainforest hails so many different types of plants, from plants that keep insects away, to venus fly traps, to flowers that hold small little pools.
  • Jungle fiber
    • The highest quality of fiber that you can't find any where else.
  • Fertile mud
    • Mud that is extremely useful when growing certain plants. Can also be used to hide your scent. Attracts mosquitoes though..

Weather conditions/Hazards

  • Heavy Rainfall
    • Can instantly fills up waterskins. Causes the weight of cloth, hide, feather, and desert clothes to increase in weight.
  • Floods
    • Rivers can sometimes rise up and flood homes. This doesn't cause any real damage, but it might drown you...
  • Mosquitoes
    • small to large black clouds will fly around the rainforest map. If you have the slightest bit of injury, they will chase after you. The amount of damage they do will change depending on how much skin is revealed on your character, so armor up. They will also sometimes have a colored fog around them which indicates a disease they might be carrying. They can be gathered from however, if the black cloud has some red spots in it, you can gather small blood bags from them and chitin. Though it requires a bug net and certain creatures.
  • Mud
    • Mud doesn't pose a huge threat, but it does cause your clothes to be heavier, and can increase your risk of disease as well as mosquitoes.
  • Fog
    • Decreases water consumption, lowers temperature a little bit more, and decreases visibility more than mist.
  • Quicksand

Redwood forest

The colder rival to the rainforest, the Redwood forest is famed for its sap and redwood trees. Its deciduous floor is littered with decaying logs which, may not give very good wood, but have can give special resources of grubs and worms which can be used as bait. The redwood trees, while difficult to farm from without the right beasts, can give you extremely high quality wood. This wood can be used to make strong wood structures.

Resources

  • Special types of nuts and seeds
  • Redwood
    • High quality wood
  • Tree sap
  • Grubs and Worms
  • Mulch

Weather Conditions/Hazards

  • Light snow*
  • Cold winds
  • Timber
    • Falling trees can potentially injure or even kill you.

*Occurs rarely

Swamp

The wetlands can be a hazardous place. Filled with poisonous and venomous fauna, covered in deadly diseases, and occasional floods, the swamp remains one of the more deadliest biomes. It's a surprise anyone has the strength to persevere through here. Though the Swamp has its ups and its downs. Possessing a large amount of mushrooms, poisons, and large amounts of natural gas fumes, the swamps have served as a useful resource provider. Though its dangers still linger.

Resources

  • Poisons
    • Possessing the most amount of poisonous creatures, swampers take advantage of this and apply it to their weapons for a devastating effect.
  • Fungi
    • Swamps possess a large amount of diverse fungi, though it is difficult to farm, it is delicious to consume.
  • Natural gas
    • Swamps blast out large amounts of methane, with this player can gather this natural gas and use it as a fuel source, amongst other things.
  • High quality Chitin
    • The large amounts of insects are much stronger in the swamp areas than others.

Weather Conditions/Hazards

  • Heavy rainfall
    • Can cause floods, though not all the time.
  • Mosquitoes
  • Gas vents
    • without the proper masks, natural gas can be extremely toxic, and whatever you do DON'T LIGHT A TORCH!
  • Floods
  • Diseases
  • Leeches

Tundra

The freezing tundra can be a harsh environment to live in, mainly because of its vicious creatures, lack of food, and hellish cold temperatures. The tundra possess large amounts of ice and crystals to help with building structures and mining. To make things better its large amounts of energy rich oil makes it a popular destination for those looking for rare resources.

Resources

  • High quality pelt
    • The creatures in the area can give you higher quality pelt.
  • Ice and permasnow
    • Permasnow is the lower quality version of ice, both can be used to substitute spark powder to preserve food, or it can be used to make igloos.
      • Permasnow can also be molded into certain things, such as snowballs.
  • High quality oil
    • The oil in the Tundra is much more useful than other oils and can be used to create more gasoline if needed.

Weather conditions/Hazards

  • Snowstorms
    • Exactly like sandstorms except you get permasnow instead of sand. Temperature drastically decreases.
  • Hail
    • Damage over time unless you are wearing a helmet (Structures are not affected)
  • Sleet
    • Decreases temperature slightly, functions like rain.
  • Avalanches

Volcano

Few tribes wish to thrive in the volcano. It's dangerous weather conditions and deadly inhabitants make the volcano an unforgivable biome to live in. Many tribes that manage to live here in some twisted way, benefit from the volcano's high quality minerals. Especially being the only place one can harvest obsidian and charcoal.

Resources

  • Obsidian
    • Whether its high or medium quality, the volcano is the ONLY place to get obsidian.
  • High quality metal
  • Charcoal
  • Fireproof hide
    • Pyroraptors only live in the volcano AND NO WHERE ELSE. They have fireproof hide that is used for the heat proof armor.

Weather Condition/Hazards

  • Eruptions
    • Eruptions can cause lava flow down the mountains. Only metal structures can resist it, wood and thatch are destroyed almost instantly, and stone is sort of...Medium
  • Fire rain
    • Causes damage to wooden structures and regular humans
  • Landslides
  • Lava
  • Ash clouds
    • Clouds of ash will sometimes float around the volcano. Ash can cause suffocation and can kill plants gradually.

That should be it!

Wow...That was longer than I thought.

Other stuff about the environments were that they had different gameplay features as well. Desert already has its water veins, Tundra gets ice floats as well as sheets of ice where you could break the ice for ice fishing, vines to swing from in the rainforest as well as the rainforest equivalent of redwood trees, and more.
