ARK NVIDIA Ansel Photography Contest!

large.Ansel.jpg.683f020687f3fe873c17912d
[SUPER RES VERSION]

This weekly screenshot competition asks players to take in-game photographs from either ARK: Survival Evolved or our new desert themed expansion pack ARK: Scorched Earth using NVIDIA Ansel, and meet the category requirements listed below.

Winners will be announced during ARK’s regular “Community Crunch” blog post. Each winner (3) will receive $100 each and each runner up will receive $50. Want to enter? ARK-Ansel screenshot entries should be e-mailed to anselcontest@studiowildcard.com

If you need a place to upload a file for the contest, make use of Wetransfer which will allow up to 2gb for free! :)

Three Categories

  • Super Resolution: These should be taken at 8x Super Resolution. Players can optionally use Depth of Field effects accessible in Spectator mode by pressing the [Delete] key.
  • Panoramic 360 Stereoscopic 3D: These should be taken at 4x Super Resolution,  in 360 Stereoscopic 3D mode. We will crop them to 2D for web display, while also providing the 3D version for viewing within VR display. Check out your 360 Stereo results on your HMD or on your Android Phone with NVIDIA VR Viewer
  • Freeform: Any settings, whacky and creative use of Ansel filters are encouraged. Adding humorous titles/captions in Photoshop is also acceptable for this category!

When entering the contest please name your entries and make sure that they include:

  • Name
  • Image Title
  • Category

An example would be

Wildcard Jat - Evolution Event - Super Resolution

Ansel is a revolutionary new way to capture in-game shots.  Compose a shot from any position, adjust with post-process filters, capture HDR images in high fidelity formats, and share the screenshots in 360 via a smartphone, PC or VR headset. Learn more about these features in the Ansel Technology page and the NVIDIA blog.

How to run NVIDIA Ansel

First of all, you'll want to make sure you're running the latest Nvidia Geforce Drivers - so head over to http://www.geforce.com/ and get downloading!

Once setup and ready to go, right click ARK: Survival Evolved in your steam library and you'll see the option to Launch ARK with NVIDIA Ansel

8C629BA8DBBC054368ECA4F20133A2EDA5A7A60B

Select this and head into a single player game, regardless of the map or the mod. Once you're in game, you can immediately press ALT + F2 to get into Ansel Photography mode and start taking snaps.

D024619D0568993D07B51F5E7D4120263CB0AB0B

or you can type in the following command in the console:

cheat enablespectator

Once that is enabled, hit your DELETE key and it'll open the Depth of Field Options menu where you can play around with the games DOF.

Then hit ALT+F2 and take some awesome Ansel photography!

Here's a little tip from Jesse:

You can also type "enablespectator true" in the console to fly around before you take your shot, and hit the "Home" key to level your camera if you want to keep people from feeling sick on a 360 stereo VR screenshot. ;)

Procedurally Generated Maps!

large.PGM_3_1080p.png

Welcome to the newest contest in our Community Crunch, PGMs! Players will be able to show off their creations for a chance to win a 100$ Steam Gift card or $50 cash for runners up, plus get their map featured in the next set of Official Extinction server maps! That's right, your map could be featured as an Official Server for a one month period!

Please include the following in your entry post:

  • Map Name:
  • Media (Videos, Screenshots, etc):
  • PGM Settings:

Media content of your procedurally generated map can include videos, screenshots, and live stream vods - anything you want in which we'll be able to visually see how your map looks. You can even get players on it and have them build or battle out a PvP game to show what it's capable of!

The PGM settings used to create the map can be found your game.ini - That's most likely in:

Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Game.ini

or

\Saved\Config\Windows or WindowsServer or LinuxServer etc)\Game.ini

[/Script/ShooterGame.ShooterGameMode]
PGMapName= ...
PGTerrainPropertiesString= ...

Hello fellow survivors,

I'd like to submit my Scorched Earth Paracer Tank for ARKitect this week. It is primarily intended for taming rock elementals with head shots from any of its three cannons, mounted and shielded on the sides and rear. Laboomba (the paracer's name) also has a nice fashionable and protective metal skirt on the cannon sides. She was a max level tame for our server (level 180 at difficulty 6) which makes her plenty tough herself.

The build's most novel feature is that it has double walls and foundations so that its tough metal outer layer is lined with adobe for thermal protection. Otherwise it would be a metal solar cooker for roasting players.

Here is an imgur album of the Paracer Tank
http://imgur.com/a/WN3AX
(I can't get the hyperlink to work for some reason)

Some caveats: this build took 128 pieces and so it requires the game configs to be set to 4x the meager default of 32. Wildcard constrained it mainly due to the toll platform saddles take on the game engine, but on private and unofficial servers that are under player capacity, it is fun and feasible to raise it.
Also I know it would still be vulnerable in pvp; it's meant for clobbering rock golems on a pve server.

I do the initial build and test it in this video:

I add the skirt in this following vid and use it on another rock golem. It also explains how we finally managed to get mantis eggs so that we could kibble tame the golems from here on.

I hope you enjoy checking it out and hopefully you'll find some useful inspirations.

Hey everyone!  Here is my submission for ARKitech this week!

I wanted to build a nice sized workshop in the depths of the Eastern Swamps.  The primary goal was to use the inside texture of the wooden walls for the outer layer of the Workshop and to mix it with some stone and glass.  This was built using the Structures Plus mod.

Hope you like it!

Hey up, survivors! This is my first submission for the ARKitech Community Crunch! There are no mods used in the building of the The Swamp Observatory, and what a perfect fit it would be on a Role Play server, "Take your kids to see all the swamp creatures in their natural habitat, or get up close in the glass enclosures!"

I really enjoyed building this one people so show some love for all those Beelzebufos out there! ;)

Hope you all love it.

Hi guys! I like to share my step-by-step house building tutorials whenever I have a new one to share! Consider this a submission for ARKVid and ARKitect please!

his is The Garden House, built using the structure plus mod. My goal with these is to make the best looking, most unique houses I can, so I spawn in the structures and paint and try to get creative with the time I save grinding materials. You guys are always super supportive when I share one of these, so thanks in advance, and if you would like to watch the whole collection instead you can click this playlist link! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0oKOXN7XUjKeHfCzN-ZAGWyH8Pu0DxjC

Thanks geeks, and thanks for making this community crunch thing so great Wildcard!

Hello, This is the first time I post my video for competition. This is how I and users in my server hunted the boss, Megapithecus. It took a lot of time to make this video. Broadcasting was really fun with my users. They failed a lot, but finally they figured out how to kill the ugly Megapithecus. lol. I personally edited this video and made music for it. Sound samples are all from Ark Survival Evolved game itself. The caption work was quite tedious, but I did it anyway. Enjoy it. We love Ark Survival Evolved. Amazing. Yeah~~

Hello everyone! I'm submitting this video to the ARKITECT Category!

This is a bigger build of mine to house my boats and any platform creatures that i might tame up later on, as well as just a general front end to my base, the only mods present are the Structures Plus Mod.

It even has a giant letter 'R' on the sides for my name :D

Hope you enjoy!

Cheers!

What a terrible day, the Nintendo Switch Preorders sold out within a minute and while building the game took a large performance dive rapidly while working on my build below, leaving a somewhat shorter than planned layout.

This is a large build again, I told myself I would stick to smaller and simple but that isn't happening as complex and difficult are in my blood. My shoulder got sore from all the precision placement haha.

If this fares well, I will make some more "trips" to other locations.
