Slight changes Spawns me in the sky - Can't Move

Ok So I am trying to make a map with only beach and small jungle biomes to make desert islands. Every small change I seem to make that has anything to do with increasing the shore line or thickness, puts me far in the sky off the map and I can barely see the land if any. I kill myself and still spawn in the same area, and I can't fly from the location but it would take me hours just to get to land even if I were able to to move while flying. To make this easier, has anyone found any settings to make deserted islands or is this still in very early testing and doesn't have a feature to remove or increase biomes?
