  • Patch 255: Electrophorus, Microraptor, Ammonite, Thylacoleo, & Tek Structures!

    large.58b29aae77ff4_ThylacoleoPounce.jpg

Patch 255 is another tech-focused patch introducing brand new TEK structures for Survivors to enhance their building experience, a new head and facial hair style, 30 explorer notes, plus four new creatures to discover, tame, and train as you explore the ARK.

With over 20 new TEK Structure pieces to play with, Survivors will be able to upgrade their bases to this new defensive tier. Similarly to the TEK released in 254, Survivors must defeat the bosses to gather the TEKnowledge necessary to use the engrams and craft the items.

Alongside the TEK tileset, we are also introducing the TEK Forcefield. The TEK Forcefield is a large dome, adjustable in size, which is powered by Element that protects all allied creatures, structures, and players within it.  The forcefield provides great resistance to incoming attacks and prevents non-home members from entering the structure.

    large.Ammonite.jpg

    large.Dossier_Ammonite.jpg

Ammonitina Multiamicus, one of the more unique creatures of the sea, the Ammonite resembles a nautilus, but much bigger. For unknown reasons, an attack on an Ammonite brings forth the wrath of all neighboring sea creatures, who will fervently defend it. This makes it a challenge to kill one, though the rewards are often worth it - the shell itself is valuable (as it is rare) and the bile can be used to concoct a variety of poison antidotes.

    large.Electrophorus.jpg

    large.58b29ab61229b_Electrophoruszap!.jpg

Electrophorus Beluadomito, a species of Knifefish. Electrophorus uses an electrical charge to zap its prey, bringing down smaller fish and eels. Tribes have been known to capture and tame schools of Electrophorus in order to use them for taking down larger aquatic animals.

    large.Microraptor.jpg

    large.Microraptor.jpg

Microraptor Gnarilongus, resembling a bird with a reptilian face, the Microraptor is a vicious predator that is instantly aggressive to anything its size or smaller (including humans). Able to jump, run and do short glides, Microraptor is incredibly dangerous alone or in packs, and when trained, they can take riders right out of the battle by dismounting them and stunning them during combat.

    large.dossier_Thylacoleo.jpg

Thylacoleo Furtimorsus, also known as the "marsupial lion", Thylacoleo is a powerful predator native to the island's redwood forests. A strong bite - the strongest of any land mammal - and bolt cutter-like teeth, make this creature a formidable ambush predator, leaping from above to crush the necks of its prey. These fearless mammals have been known to climb up Redwood trees and pounce great distances as their prey come into sight.

As you can see, I like how wonderfully powerful and useful the Thyla is. Thank you for making me the apex mammal of the game.

Ive played since day one on xbox(1000+ hours) and I've played on each map and I've never seen a single one or heard of anyone getting one. Maybe I'm just unlucky. Ive never tried to farm them just seen others try. Maybe I will give it a try.

    100% just unlucky.

I still have yet to see a thylacoleo, but the microraptors are pretty cool! They seem like they would be a good base defense because they knock you off mounts and immobilize you.

Do you hear that? That is the sound of a thousand terrible quotes coming this way, when they get here: they will crush us, grind us into a thousand tiny peices and then BLOST us into oblivion!

It would be cool to actually play the update. I am running v751.2 on both of my xboxs, and it is saying all the servers are still on v750.5. I am only able to play solo.... please tell me how I can fix this. I normally run a player dedicated on my alternate Xbox, but it won't let anyone join ever since the update.

    Chink in the armor, Ted.

Amongst other issues like the hatchframes, I've noticed a few others:

    1. It seems the hit box of the Tek Replicator has changed.  In my base, it's on the second floor, first floor is one level high.  We used to be able to walk around just fine, but now we have to duck to get around.   Seems a minor problem but a problem nonetheless.

    2. I built a few Mastercraft assault rifles, prepping for boss fights. I noticed that as soon as I made them, they needed repair.  I stuck them back in the fabricator, hit the repair button and it sucked up all the polymer trying to repair one of them. I only had 21 polymer in it at the time, so no big loss. But why are they damaged without ever being used?  And why can't they be repaired?

    Please address these, devs.

And thank you so much for all you do over there at Wild Card.  You guys are awesome!

The Tek structures are wonderful, I have been waiting for them for a while, but I have a concern.

I need you to give me my Megatherium now, please. I need to be a sloth wrangler.

Me too! I'm thinking, it might be cool to find a piece of land of suitable size to set up a server race track and have competitions.  Actually i think a sky course for birds would be just as awesome, just harder to enforce that every racer goes through every marker enroute to the finish

If you can pull it off on your server, we always used Herbivore island for events like that. Arena in the middle and a race track around the outside. Though we did make a few cross country tracks too. (This was on a dedicated so it was easier to negotiate land rights)
