    The Community Crunch is where we share important things going on with ARK, as well as host contests and showcase creations made by the community! Let's get started with some news.

    What an intriguing discovery survivors, can you guess what creature it is? 

    Upcoming Turret Change

    Over the past few weeks, we have been carrying out analysis on our Official Servers to see where we can improve server performance and what the biggest difference is currently versus Early Access. Since ARK went retail, we were expecting to see our servers have better performance due to optimisations, better allocation and usage of hardware, and improved DDoS mitigation. What we have learnt is that there has been a dramatic change in how turrets are being used on Official Servers. The fundamental issue is that tribes are not only significantly increasing the number of turrets they use, but reducing the space they occupy, so the server is having to do more calculations in denser areas. In some cases, we've seen an increase of 7x versus the previous server-profiling data we had. It is clear that we need to make a change in regards to how turrets are placed, but we understand that they are an important part meta-game on Official PvP servers and therefore want to give you as much notice as possible.

    With the following change, we are expecting a performance increase of 50% on average for our Official Servers (extreme cases up to 300%) and this will have an impact on all maps.

    Starting from today on PC (and next week on console), you'll receive an update which indicates the number of turrets you have within 10k units. When you exceed 100 turrets within 10k units, there will be a warning placed on the turret to inform you, so you can make adjustments as necessary. On December the 5th, we will flick a switch on our Official Servers which will disable all turrets that exceed the allocated limit. You have the period from now until then to make any changes you want to avoid your turrets from being turned off. Once the turrets are within the permitted amount, they will function again. This patch will also allow the mounted minigun turret to shoot non-mounted tames, but reduce their range to be the equivalent of the auto turret.

    In accordance with this change, we will also be increasing the damage of autoturrets and TEK turrets by 20%, increasing the item slot count of autoturrets by 50% on the 5th of December.

    The turret limit will effect: Plant Species X, Autoturrets, and TEK Turrets.

    So remember, you'll see the visual change first and will have a couple weeks to prepare for the actual change which prevents turrets from being used over the limit. This is all enabled through a server-setting which can be used in the game.ini:

      TLDR:  Turret usage had changed since the game went retail, it has been having a huge negative impact on the server. We will be introducing a limit to how many can be placed within a certain radius on the 5th of December. On PC a patch will be deployed today to inform you of the limit so you can make changes as necessary (and next week on console also). The change affects Plant Species X, Autoturrets, and TEK Turrets. We will also be buffing auto turrets, tek turrets, and minigun turrets.

    ARK Play Anywhere!

    This is just a brief update on ARK: Play Anywhere, as we know a lot of you are excited about it (as are we!). It will be entering final submission this week for Xbox One (OneX) and Windows 10. We are expecting to complete the cert process in December for a release alongside Aberration. Alongside this, we plan to launch some Official Servers which will support CrossPlay but will not be enabling it for our entire network, due to anti-cheat mitigations. Unfortunately, TruePlay is not quite ready yet but we are hopeful that BattlEye will be able to make it onto the platform, until then we won't be doing much crossplay on our Official Servers, however, players will have the option to enable crossplay on their servers, be it hosted on an Xbox, PC, or rented through Nitrado.

    ARK Sponsored Mod Update!

    It's that time of the month where we announce new mods entering the sponsored mod program! We've seen our fair share of maps, total conversions, rebalance, and creature mods but not often do we get to share mods that are tools that benefit other modders. This month we are excited to announce one of those mods, ArkFrame created by ZenRowe.

    This isn't the typical mod you might find yourself subscribing to because it doesn't actually contain end-user content. It is essentially a standardization library that modders can use.  To most people browsing through the workshop, this wouldn't typically catch their eye. They are more likely to browse through the workshop and find they are already subscribed to it!

    Why is this mod important for the program and Ark? It will, in time, create an easier way for people to get into modding by standardizing some of the most common functions.

    Here is an example of a mod made using ArkFrame:

    ARK: 2x Evolution Event Weekend!

    Survivors across ALL Platforms will be receiving a special Evolution Event perk this weekend! It's already live now and will remain active until Monday the 20th at 12 PM EST. All Official Servers will be undergoing this evolutionary change which includes:

    2x Harvesting Rate
    2x Taming Rate
    2x EXP Rate
    2x Maturing
    2x Hatching
    2x Gestation
    2x Faster Mating Interval Rates

    ARK: Survival Evolved and the Scorched Earth Expansion Pack now include support for NVIDIA Ansel -- a revolutionary new way to capture in-game shots.  Compose shots from any position, adjust with post-process filters, capture HDR images in high-fidelity formats, and share the screenshots in 360 via a smartphone, PC or VR headset.

    Now let’s get to the contest!

    There were 3 potential categories for survivors to enter their shots into and they were the following:

    Three Categories

    Super Resolution: These should be taken at 8x Super Resolution. Players can optionally use Depth of Field effects accessible in Spectator mode by pressing the [Delete] key.

    Panoramic 360 Stereoscopic 3D: These should be taken at 4x Super Resolution,  in 360 Stereoscopic 3D mode. We will crop them to 2D for web display, while also providing the 3D version for viewing within VR display.

    Freeform: Any settings, whacky and creative use of Ansel filters are encouraged. Adding humorous titles/captions in Photoshop is also acceptable for this category!

    No, it doesn't means 10k structures, this would be silly... 10k units in the 3D world. Which is probably the same range as the main structure limits (epic vicinity/render range).

    Thanks for your answer ... i didn't think it was structures but was told it was and needed to find a better source .... so does anyone know how many foundations long one unit is?

    10,000 / 150 = 67 foundations

    Turret nerf = pvp ruined. GG Wildcard. People are already quitting and demanding refunds.
    I'd much rather deal with the lag than be wiped over and over because raiding is already way too easy before this nerf.

    well there's officially no way to defend against an offline raid. rip ark. i will be not be buying aberation and will be receiving a refund for this game if this turret change goes through.

    I want wildcard to watch a video of how pathetic their "20% buff" will be on 100 turrets against an offline titan raid. Wildcard if you dont also SEVERELY nerf the bullet soaking dinos (stegos, golems, brontos) and remove titans from pvp with the same patch then you are all sincerely mentally stunted.

    Could you guys maybe stop releasing x2 events every weekend? Especially tame/breed, since almost every PVE server is on tame cap, and the x2 event is filling up the few remaining servers even faster.

    With that Trueet cap you either need a really big tribe or no life to keep your base on official servers safe... wow.. now you really have to dedicate your life to this game

    To all the people whining that they can't gave 10,000+ auto turrets anymore. 

    Welcome to a little thing called "adapt to your situation". Instead of whining and moaning and threatening to quit, learn to adapt to the situation at hand. You what counters an army of stegos? An army of Rexes, or even Allos if you know what you're doing. Turrets aren't the only base defence in the game, it's time to put on your big boy/girl pants and learn. I can think of at least 3 different counters for this without your precious turrets. 

     

    1. Build in a place that's extremely hard to access, such as somewhere up high or somewhere with narrow entrances. This will make it virtually impossible for brontos or stegos to even get close enough to soak up your bullets, and the narrow or small fighting area would easily allow for stronger, trained rexes, allos, or even Carnos since more can fit, to destroy the enemy stegos and leave your turrets with plenty of bullets left. 

     

    2. Dino army.  Simple as that. Don't know if you knew this, but Stegos are easily to kill if you don't rely solely on bullets. Did you know allos bleed completely annihilates tanky Dino's due to the nature of its damage? Did you know purlovias and Thylas can do massive damage with sneak attacks? Did you know bear traps everywhere is a good way to halt dino progress and make them easy pickings for your own Dino's? Seriously, learn to use what the game has given you. Bred Gigas will do the job just fine as well, just be careful with them. Heck, griffins and Wyverns too. Full imprinted wyverns have very nice damage output, and their DOT ignores armor as far as the fire breath and poison breath goes. Griffins can pick any survivors for easy killing, and their divebomb decimates enemy dinos if you implement it right. 

     

    3. Gate stacking. You know what's harder to raid than a base surrounded by gates? A base surrounded by multiple layers of gates. Instead of grinding for all your precious turrets, grind out even more gates. When you enemy can't get through your gates because they've run out of explosives, the raid becomes easy. That, or they can't get into your base, leaving time for the aforementioned dino army to decimate their Dino army. Don't even just do this with gates, layer walls, make an extra layer or four around your base dedicated to traps, hidden Dino's (bats and megalania are beautiful for this, mega rabies and armor shredding, very fun combo. Arthopluera and troodons too.). It'll be hard to get inside, especially without spending thousands of resources and losing just as much as they gain. 

     

    There are thousands of ways to adapt to this situation, you've just gotta be smarter than the average bear. Get creative, that's the point of a game like this much of the time after all. Learn, rather than complaining.

Everytime you add a new update, you break something else. A recent example would be the invisible phoenix bug. Do you even check the code you're writing? How do you break something unrelated to what you're changing??? If i didn't know better this turret patch will erase tames on turret mode as well. Your dino policy for glitched tames is BS and half of the time your GMs don't even show. Hell my post here is making me question why i even play your game. Oh that's right. Dinosaurs. Team wildcard, please, do a better job.

    atm we cant even place turret if we want to change the turret tower stupid wild card please take care when u update

    100 turret is not enough for the 10k space whatever it meant my small base got 1000 turret + and that cant cover some part of the small base. 

    Even the turret get 50 percecnt buff still the shotting DPS is still less because there is less turret which mean easier for people who goes in people house without tame. Now it will just make ARK so un balance.

    Actually ask people who play PvP about their opinion first before doing somthing and getting poop reaction

    What if someone placed lots of turret on a boat and moved to someone's base (thus hitting turret limit in that area)  and that would make the game to choose,  which turrets need to be shut down randomly? Have you thought about it Wildcard? 

    I could imagine game shutting down turrets of attacked tribe.

    Welcome to a little thing called "adapt to your situation". Instead of whining and moaning and threatening to quit, learn to adapt to the situation at hand. You what counters an army of stegos?     Obviously you don't understand how PvP works in this game, but that's ok all you pve players can stay in your bubble of safety without ever experiencing a tribe with 8 dozen soaking dinos. They would have to buff the damage 50x to even try to viable and that may not even work, my stego with it's mc saddles take 1 damage per hit and has 45k hp so even with the 20% boos I'll be able to drain 100 turrets in about 20 min with no issue

    beyond stupid. i thought WC had an inkling of what was wrong with the fundamentals but as it turns out, they are clueless. progression through grind is one thing but when you can't protect it offline is another. anyone with handful of hours on pvp knows a tribe of 10-20 gets steamrolled within an hour or 2. that's because those guys can't be online 24/7, and when your enemy goes through battlelog, he'll see the downtimes and when to strike. you, allowing 70 member tribes and 10 alliances, are pissing on the beach bobs that look at your so-pve-roleplay promo video and decide to give it a shot. reality is a horror story. a single stego can allahu akbar through those 100 turrets and blow a hole to the base (because half of those would be covering the other side of the base xD). doesnt even have to be a stego. wyvern has enough hp to drop stegos safely. similarly a griff can divebomb under your dinos and be hidden from turret sight. i mean even paracers are already updo 70k hp in the new "cluster". imagine what those would do against 100 turrets. if you prioritize on paracers, then your roof will be open for business. 

    basically, everyone should claim caves. fewer access points means you can concentrate your turrets again. will also result to undermeshing for which you have no counter and no protection by WC. your base will be gone within minutes in that 6x zone and a "cheating report" will take weeks to go through. no refund, no rollback. pathetic how much is wrong with this game. i assume WC watched the stream videos and thought this would counter the days if not week long raids. in that respect, yes, it does affect the result. the turd in your coffee is that rates would have to be 5x for people to not just lose it. 

    anyways, gl WC. i will be eagerly checking your player count :D. i expect abomination to be hot stuff for a month or two and in 6 months the game to be rejected by the majority of your fans.

    While limiting the amount of turrets, to increase server performance, they could add a turret settings that allows for instance set it to 3 and the turret will eat 3 bullets and deals 3 times the amount of damage. That way the operations required to shoot 3 bullets is 3 times less expensive for the server than what it used to be.

    I'm EU player going over to NA. We have absolutely no increase what so ever in ping on the server. Server Ping is stable at 60-70.. This change will completely kill off everyone that isn't cheating or exploiting in ARK. Especially those who box their Quetzals (not OK in ARK Official Rules) but people do it for a raid, and remove it after and no one uses their real tribe name so reporting is therefore useless too. What will happen when this update hits is that people will come with 5 30-40K health Stegos, a boxed Quetzal and any base will go down. We've looked at getting more Rock Elementals, Dilos and Arthroplueras but they are too weak and unbalanced for this game. People have fab snipers at 285% dmg. They take out anything so quickly. And we had people trying to raid few days ago with Stegos, and the server didn't lag. ARK devs are focusing on wrong problems. Our Legacy have bases with maybe 5K turrets. Nothing ever lagged during raids.
