  • Introducing the Purlovia and Upcoming Biome Changes!

    large.Dossier_Purlovia.jpg

    Common Name: Purlovia
    Species: Purlovia Maxima
    Time: Late Permian
    Diet: Carnivore
    Temperament: Patient

    Wild

Purlovia Maxima perfectly embodies the element of surprise. Though Nanictidopids such as Purlovia were once thought to be herbivores, I discovered that this creature is, in fact, a patient hunter of the most clever sort.

After burrowing beneath the jungle floor, Purlovia enters a state of hibernation, and can go extended periods without any food. When some unfortunate creature eventually wanders by, Purlovia dramatically bursts forth from the ground, tearing into its prey with its large canines before the victim can react.

    Domesticated

Though Purlovia is ill-suited to the life of a mount, its usefulness in staging an ambush or as a village guardian cannot be understated. With a tamed pack of Purlovia, one could assemble a literal minefield of deadly claws and teeth.

However, any ambushes using Purlovia must be planned well in advance, as it will refuse to hibernate if it senses any threat nearby.

    Upcoming Biome Changes!

In the last Community Crunch we posted some upcoming changes to the Biomes. That map was a little confusing as it included the new sizes of all the biomes, as opposed to the changes itself - and following that, we've gone ahead and made some further changes to what that turned out to be. Here are the new biome changes:

    large.573226dc73cea_7D85D9D02D8F501A9E3931C34EEDFCB5F89592A0C6092BD0FEpimgpsh_fullsize_distr.jpg

    Quote

    Key:

Blue area == Changes occurring in this area are to highlight the new Snow Biome. The previous biome will receive a touch-up / some alterations and adjustments which may effect your base. So there are some slight landscape/terrain changes made throughout the biome.

Orange area == This is the new Redwood biome. It will be replacing the previous existing
Jungle/Mountain area that was here before.

Green area == This is the swamp biome that will turn into Redwood.

The Old Snow Biome has received some changes, the extent of which is difficulty to quantify, it is closer to a touch-up as opposed to a re-do. There is a chance this could effect bases in that location, which is why we wanted to include it on the map to give you guys the option as to whether to relocate or not, however it is also likely that they are not significant enough to cause you any disruption.

The other highlighted areas, are areas of change. The swamp isn't being made into a tiny small piece, it is still rather large - it's just a far majority of it will be unaffected by this map change, which is why it is not highlighted on the map - however the areas that are highlighted, will change.

We try to avoid making drastic map changes as we know it can be unsettling for players to have to be concerned about relocating their base, however sometimes we have to go ahead and make those changes for the development of the game. We apologize if this does cause any inconvenience and we really hope you enjoy the upcoming biome changes :)

Don't worry if it's a little confusing! We'll be updating the in-game environment with 3D markers indicating areas that will be undergoing a change!

Here's a little sneak-preview of what's to come, and we'll be showing off some more later on as we get closer to release :)

Thank you guys for the new info! Really excited to see the biome changes occur, and check out the new tames on Xbox. It's really awesome how much you all listen to, and consider the communities feedback and suggestions through this development process.

:( awesome the new snow biome . but a bit sad aswel :P

i was like dreaming that the hidden lake would stay as it is , but was surrounded with the snow biome .
like some vulcanic hot spot in the middel of the snow that stay's green .
it would be so cool to find a place like the hidden lake with the same temp as the swamp but in the middel of the snow .
pleasse studio wildcard ; make it so :P  you guy's made already the best game ever but ..... i really want to see this in the game :P

The map you guys are using is very out of date :P, but that aside, could you guys maybe update or release another map with a more visible lat/long grid? (maybe with specific gps points of the furthest parts on the new areas?) It would be easier ingame for judging who needs to move.

If you can't tell whether or not you need to move based off of this map, then you sir, need to go back to Geography and head on over to a topography class. The map is fine, just learn how to read it...

I suggested that for the green and blue area, the red one is completely obvious, servers don't have player location map markers enabled, and then there is people like me that cant actually see the in-game hand held map with low details either, its blurry, anyway this current map doesn't effect me, I merely suggested it for someone that I know who lives in/extremely close to the green marked area on the edge of a cliff.

Very cool to give players starting in the south a shot at making it inland without being forced to cross the swamp. Side note, a while back in a digest you stated that moving forward you would be optimizing gameplay and filling those still yet to be added to the game dossiers rather than creating new ones yet you continue to create new ones. Will we be seeing everything previously unreleased before actual release now that it has been pushed to fall? I don't play on pc because mine can't handle it but will SOTF be affected by redwood since that is where it is based?

Currently the game posseses a substantial amount of creatures way surpassing 100 closer to 200 actually.

    :S

Where are you getting your numbers from?

Last time I checked it was still under 100, have they released a heap ton of dossiers without me noticing?

if its burrowing does that mean that we could get terraforming? Please cause leveling off areas would make things easier. Also all u guys complaining about havn to move on official servers, u do realise ur just testing the game. When its properly released (est christmas 2016) all official servers will b wiped. Ur gonna lose evrything regardless.

Why do people have to move on official servers?

Why do you think all servers will be wiped? The devs have said they're going to try and avoid that (even though I believe it does make sense to wipe them)

Is this going to be coming to Xbox as well? If so is there an ETA? I won't really be affected but a lot of my alliance tribes will be.

All patches/map changes for PC will eventually be added to Xbox as well. The biome changes in particular are planned for May 30th, so the xbox patch will most likely come in June.

they may have to move due to the biome changes. Seriously, theyre not wiping the servers before proper release? What are they gonna do instead add 100+ new servers and let newbies try to figure out which servers are new? Whats to stop people who already have a nice base but maybe not in their ideal location claiming all the "good" spots while new players are still trying to figure out how to play. Mind u wots to stop them doing that neways we all know there are some selfish players out there hoarding main resource areas or putting pillars all over the map.

Personally, I would not be concerned if they made me move my base, or if I had to start building from scratch. A huge part of the fun of this game is surviving in the early stages of the game and then building up. I have put a ton of time into building up my base and taming dinosaurs, but I would not mind at all if they were all gone tomorrow so long as it was for a good reason (e.g. expanded map, new biomes, terraforming, etc...). I'm quite aware that I'm playing an early access game, and I came into this with the mindset that I could lose all my progress at any time - no biggie. Of course that's just my opinion, I know other people feel very strongly about losing their progress.

Oh.. they only have to move if they're in the redwood forest area, everywhere else (biome change wise) is optional with a slight risk. A lot of people won't have to move at all.

I know what you mean, we can only wait and see what the devs do at full release time.

Was really hoping to see a sneak peak of the redwood biome. Pretty excited about that and the possibilities it brings.

I wander if you need to find one in the wild and sneak up to passive tame it... I hope it isn't passive though.

Don't understand why all of my Xbox brothers and sisters constantly ask if an update is going to come to Xbox or not I mean it totally hasn't been stated multiple times that all updates to PC will be put on Xbox as soon as they are ready.

Have you been living in a hole?  Because a week ago they released The Center for PC and on Monday they release The Center For XBOX

Purlovia is a reptile not a mammal. The reason why it has fur because it belongs to synsapids class or mammal like reptile.

Im kinda concerned about alpha tribes making minefields at spawns. Maybe some sort of anti ambush predator can hunt these down whilst they're underground? I hope something of that sort comes out otherwise people might be spawn killed all the friggin time...

    Kitteh is scurd T_T
