  • Introducing the Purlovia and Upcoming Biome Changes!

    large.Dossier_Purlovia.jpg

    Common Name: Purlovia
    Species: Purlovia Maxima
    Time: Late Permian
    Diet: Carnivore
    Temperament: Patient

    Wild

Purlovia Maxima perfectly embodies the element of surprise. Though Nanictidopids such as Purlovia were once thought to be herbivores, I discovered that this creature is, in fact, a patient hunter of the most clever sort.

After burrowing beneath the jungle floor, Purlovia enters a state of hibernation, and can go extended periods without any food. When some unfortunate creature eventually wanders by, Purlovia dramatically bursts forth from the ground, tearing into its prey with its large canines before the victim can react.

    Domesticated

Though Purlovia is ill-suited to the life of a mount, its usefulness in staging an ambush or as a village guardian cannot be understated. With a tamed pack of Purlovia, one could assemble a literal minefield of deadly claws and teeth.

However, any ambushes using Purlovia must be planned well in advance, as it will refuse to hibernate if it senses any threat nearby.

    Upcoming Biome Changes!

In the last Community Crunch we posted some upcoming changes to the Biomes. That map was a little confusing as it included the new sizes of all the biomes, as opposed to the changes itself - and following that, we've gone ahead and made some further changes to what that turned out to be. Here are the new biome changes:

    Key:

Blue area == Changes occurring in this area are to highlight the new Snow Biome. The previous biome will receive a touch-up / some alterations and adjustments which may effect your base. So there are some slight landscape/terrain changes made throughout the biome.

Orange area == This is the new Redwood biome. It will be replacing the previous existing
Jungle/Mountain area that was here before.

Green area == This is the swamp biome that will turn into Redwood.

The Old Snow Biome has received some changes, the extent of which is difficulty to quantify, it is closer to a touch-up as opposed to a re-do. There is a chance this could effect bases in that location, which is why we wanted to include it on the map to give you guys the option as to whether to relocate or not, however it is also likely that they are not significant enough to cause you any disruption.

The other highlighted areas, are areas of change. The swamp isn't being made into a tiny small piece, it is still rather large - it's just a far majority of it will be unaffected by this map change, which is why it is not highlighted on the map - however the areas that are highlighted, will change.

We try to avoid making drastic map changes as we know it can be unsettling for players to have to be concerned about relocating their base, however sometimes we have to go ahead and make those changes for the development of the game. We apologize if this does cause any inconvenience and we really hope you enjoy the upcoming biome changes :)

Don't worry if it's a little confusing! We'll be updating the in-game environment with 3D markers indicating areas that will be undergoing a change!

Here's a little sneak-preview of what's to come, and we'll be showing off some more later on as we get closer to release :)

    Thanks guys!

    All the best,

It will refuse to burrow if danger is near by? Sounds like a perfect way to check if there are any enemy spies near by... Could really help RPers who don't want to fly high into the air... unless the enemies need to be hostile.

looks like it can be carried by an eagle...but that won't matter if it's a passive tame :(

Hmm I wonder if the land mine dino is able to be tethered to a specific spot and resets automatically after dispensing with what triggered it or if it has to be commanded to do so.

Probably not the only one but most likely you're in the minority on that.

The map you guys are using is very out of date :P, but that aside, could you guys maybe update or release another map with a more visible lat/long grid? (maybe with specific gps points of the furthest parts on the new areas?) It would be easier ingame for judging who needs to move.

Absolutely not, I say freeze the lake and give the boot to people who based there. It's not fair to cater to the cry babies who "put so much time" into their base. My brother and myself built on the eastern edge of the snow river and have easily put thousands of hours into our base. We are the only tribe who's going to have to move, the server bullies who live in the oasis WERE going to have to move. So as it stands my brother and I have to move a hundred tames and hundreds of eggs. I wouldn't be annoyed if the alpha had to move too.

A burrower huh? O.o Suppose they have a way to work around the engine not allowing map editing with giving like temporary access to phase through the map and just make a special texture pop up so that it is noticeable? Maybe..maybe.. Anyways excited for the new creature, especially with it being an ambush predator. Not gonna lie though I was a tiny bit disappointed about it not being a Cave Lion, but I hold out hope for it to be added in last minute.

This and all off the recent updates have gotten me very excited, though I worry that with all of these new creatures being implimented on a fortnight basis, that the game is going to become incredibly dense. Currently the game posseses a substantial amount of creatures way surpassing 100 closer to 200 actually. even with this terrain adjustment, there has been no actuall enlargment to the map, for sure currently is ok I guess though barely, like if you give it a thought there is going to be over 40 new dinos being added including the titanosaur, like that itself could be a map never mind trying to cram it in to a already packed enviroment, though this only accounts for land, as Ifeel like the sea could do with more life. For Ark I hope that there is a map enlargment to compensate.

When will these biomes be coming to Xbox? I only ask because our base is currently where the Red Wood Biome will be.

I'd like to see creatures more specifically located on the map (no Dinos in snow, Rex and spino spawns Only in higher difficulty areas, etc). This would eliminate most of the clutter and really give a more unique feel to the biomes/spawn areas other than just having a different temp/skin.

Is this going to be coming to Xbox as well? If so is there an ETA? I won't really be affected but a lot of my alliance tribes will be.

Best thing to do is start packing up now. All we know is it is hitting us sometime after PC.
