  • Introducing the Kentrosaurus & A Message to the ARK Community!

    large.DossierKentrosaurus.jpg.c7898319b5

    Common Name: Kentrosaurus
    Species: Kentrosaurus Aethiopicus
    Time: Late Jurassic
    Diet: Herbivore
    Temperament: Short-Tempered

    Wild:

While Kentrosaurus Aethiopicus is considerably smaller than its close relative, Stegosaurus Regium, it is much more formidable in matters of self defense. In fact, it is arguably the pound for pound champion of not only the Stegosauria, but when encountered in close-knit fighting packs, ranks atop the island’s herbivorous dinosaurs in general.

Thanks to its wickedly sharp defensive spikes, any creature which attacks Kentrosaurus is likely to be reversely wounded in turn, and it is capable of piercing even the thickest of hides and armors when it goes on the offensive. I have personally witnessed the Kentrosaurus fell much larger predators in a single such “impaling” maneuver!

Underestimating Kentrosaurus can be a fatal mistake, particularly when it is in a herd. When travelling in numbers, Kentrosaurus seems to grow much more aggressive, increasing the range at which it will defend its territory.

    Domesticated:

Survivors have seen little success in their attempts to ride Kentrosaurus, owing to its spikes and hot-headed temperament. However, a tamed herd of Kentrosaurus can defend a compound as well as take on any larger carnivore. One swing of its deadly tail can save a survivors life, or even turn the tide of a pitched battle!

A Message to the ARK Community

Firstly, an emphatic "thank you" to the ARK community for the love they have shown towards this game. Your creations, your feedback, and your support have meant the world to us. THANK YOU!

We'd also like to provide our official take on the Scorched Earth Expansion Pack, and the future of ARK. Put simply: we are absolutely committed to driving aggressive development towards a solid, feature-robust game launch for ARK: Survival Evolved. Everyone at Wildcard wakes up every day thinking about how we can make ARK into a better game today than it was the day before. It’s not always easy, but our intent is ever-forward progress towards a retail release that will  be far more ambitious in scope and features than our original vision when we launched ARK into Steam Early Access in June 2015. Your feedback enables us to continually expand the game to become better than ever!

Scorched Earth: Our original vision for ARK always included the creation of Expansion ARKs, along with the infrastructure and technical systems to transfer data dynamically between live ARKs. We determined that it is more sound to iterate on these systems during Early Access than after retail launch, given the significant risks involved if we didn't "get it right". While that meant unveiling the first Expansion early, it also means an easier time integrating further post-launch Expansions into the ARK network. We understand that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and we appreciate the enjoyment people seem to be getting out of this initial view of how Expansion ARKs can work. Now that we have the systems in place to support them, we can ensure minimal integration issues with subsequent releases after ARK: Survival Evolved itself has launched.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been surviving on Scorched Earth, and we hope that the new features and content that it brings into the ARK universe will enrich all players' experiences whatever map or mode you're playing on -- and in the weeks ahead we're looking forward to seeing what modders can make with the Scorched Earth content, and the powerful new Blueprint systems coming with them.

Regarding our upcoming plans for ARK: Survival Evolved, here's a brief outline of what's ahead:

    large.ARK_Tapejara2.jpg.971685661467e4fe

    - ARK v247 launches later this week, and among other things will include the fan-favorite creatures Tapejara and Archaeopteryx!
    - Breeding Phase 3 and the Boss Ascension Cycle are being wrapped up for release, and will soon make their debut along with the first Tek Tier items (Power Armor).
    - ARK Backstory!! You're going to get your first dose of ARK’s mythology with the Explorer Note system -- will you find them all and begin piecing together the mysteries of the ARK?
    - The first pass of the "Procedurally Generated ARKs" system should be coming to PC next month, and Xbox soon afterwards. Unlimited ARK varieties?! You bet!
    - As Scorched Earth dramatically expands ARK's Blueprint modding capabilities,we will be launching a new Mod Contest with the release of the Dev Kit that incorporates the Scorched Earth content.

There is a lot more content beyond that as we head into the home-stretch of preparing the game for 1.0 release, but these are some of the things that we're particularly excited to get out to you! We're not nearly at the end of the journey yet, and ARK has much to come in order to fulfill its destiny as the ultimate Dinosaur survival experience of our collective dreams. But with your help, we are going to get there together, and every day will be ever more amazing on the ARK!

Will we ever see titanboas become tameable?  I truly hate those things and wonder if I would hate them less if I could tame them.

I think I will always hate megalodons no matter how many I tame.

    I rarely play Ark:SE....

But I give you €20 for Scorched Earth in the hope that you improve on my favorite game Ark: Survival of the Fittest (SOTF). Some words on future SOTF plans please.

I see hatred. I see flaming. I see insults. I see complaining. I see religious values (white knight, etc). I see comments about the cost of the expansion. There are all sorts of things. I made an account just to comment.

I have questions. That's it. I won't insult, I won't complain, and I don't think that what I have to ask is that hard to answer. I think answers would honestly resolve what's going on in the ARK community right now, at least from my perspective.

Why charge $20 for the expansion? Is it because you need the money? If so, wouldn't a "Donate" button be more appropriate? Sure, The Center was free but wasn't it mostly player created to begin with? Also, if you need money or want to make more money, why not (AT THE PROMISE OF MUCH MORE SUPPORT mind you) introduce a monthly subscription or even in-game transactions that aren't considered Pay-to-Win and not too expensive, such as outfits, weapon skins, dinosaur skins, etc? Just some suggestions, I don't know if you or others will find them good or bad.

Why are the bug fixes/optimizations taking so long? I have put a few hundred hours into ARK now and I love it. I honestly do. But there are simple problems that may not have simple solutions, namely FPS drops, lag (on less than 20 ping no less), clipping, foundation / structure placing issues, spawn points, falling through the map, just to name a few. I understand this is an Early Access game, I was prepared and am still very willing to take the bad with the good.

Are you going to charge for future DLCs? I think a lot of people are worried about this, and I would say it's a very reasonable concern.

How much longer for an official release? The game has been pushed back a lot, I understand sometimes things happen outside of our control, but when will the actual game be released? Is there no official release date? I think something to look forward to would be enough to calm the masses, and also motivate you guys to finish at a certain time instead of just having push-back comments/explanations prepared in advance.

After hundreds of hours into the game (some have less, some have more) I have noticed a lot of problems. I expected some, am shocked by some, and I find a lot of them funny more than frustrating on most days. I love this game. I have given a negative review on Steam simply because I don't understand why things are going in the direction that they are, and honestly answering these VERY simple questions would alleviate a lot of my concern, change my review and even simply make me happier while playing ARK. I don't believe that my review or opinion will effect Wildcard or the masses one bit, as I am just one in many, but I still feel like my review, opinions, and questions are no less important than anyone else's.

I truly wish to see ARK succeed. It's been a fun ride so far, and I hope it gets better. As long as you treat us fairly and provide adequate reasons for your actions, as well as support for the issues that remain, I'm sure most if not all of us will continue riding this train until it's last stop.

Thank you for reading (both WC and my fellow users), sorry for the wall of text.

I cannot speak for WC but here is my vision of things, call me a white knight if you want.

Why charge for 20$? Money. Since when the gaming industry is a charity and profit is forbidden? Main game doesn't generate enough revenue to pay employees: DLC or new game.

Are you going to charge for future DLCs? Yes, very likely, but it will be as a supporting gesture like now. Mods that add all the dinos and engram on the core game are already here. Look for the Scorched Earth Tabula Rasa mod. And honestly the official servers population is rather small compared to the unofficial one.

How much longer for an official release? It's planned for this December, no idea if the deadline can be met.

    Wild Card:

As it stands currently, the expansion is not worth getting, because the game-breaking issues that plague the base game also plagues the expansion! Read on further for some explanation:

Although I can agree that releasing expansions before the base game is out of EA is a good way to go about it, there is only one major issue there - ARK (as the base game, but therefore also as the expansion) has "game-breaking" bugs. Plus some simple yet really important features missing (such as, if you get thrown off a flying mount, the animal returns to your base / closest respawn point by itself). I won't talk about the latter, but I'll mention one of the game-breaking bugs of ARK, which is the path-finding component of the dino AI. Dinos getting stuck between trees / rocks, glitching around and other kind of nonsense that annoys to the point that it becomes eventually pointless to even have dinos with you on auto-follow and auto-attack. You could as well just remove that from the game all-together for now and just require people to ride tamed dinos one-by-one. And I'll do you another favor and mention you another major issue that removes the purpose and fun of having dinos - which is that there's no proper fleeing mechanism of those when they're being attacked and esp. for those that are set to passive and that are being attacked. I'm not an animal expert, yet I'd bet that most if not all animals are (and were, as in, this would apply also to prehistoric ones) hard-wired to flee when they're taking too much damage or are up against an opponent where they'd not stay the least bit of chance, even with one or more humans at their side. What really needs to happen here is a check for an animal to ascertain the probability of success in combat and then, depending on a few things such as animal behavior and current state such as stamina and hunger, the animal would then go into fight or respectively flight mode.

But the pretty much non-existing path-finding system has ruined the fun for me on so many occasions that I have put ARK on the back-burner over and over again. Therefore, my request is that ARK's AI system is being reworked and an update released soon, with the aforementioned issues (and others) fixed.

Love the game love the expansion starting to hate you guys! Stop trying to hype us up with "notes" that are taking months and months to release we don't want notes we want fixes. Don't hype us up on tek tier when really u guys are just putting all your time into expansions that you will charge us for again. The time that was put into scorched earth could of Been used to make your amazing base game work, I mean seriously have u tried looking around on Xbox one version? Nothing but blurry and bad textures even with motion blurring turned off? Keep ur notes about the mysteries of the ark and actually fix it so we can see it for what it is.

I have to admit, until this explanation and between 3rd party mods being added to the final game content when it's only 50-70 percent complete I was pretty disappointed.  At least this expansion has an intent unlike the center map.  Prim+ might be justified as an improvement to overwrite the current primitive server settings but I think it's about time to tie everything that's started up before adding anymore mods etc.  Optimization has been on the back burner for too long and progressing into new content would greatly benefit from a polished core game as well as the increased sales as people are still avoiding purchase simply because of the game's alpha status and unpredictability as of late.

The expansion looks like a movie releasing a sequel before it even goes into theatres to anyone who isn't involved in thia game...

How about any news for those of us waiting for the ps4 release?

They have already given an update on the PS4 situation last month, which you have already seen:

If Sony don't change their stance on it then it will have to wait until ARK is fully released, which is currently planned for Holiday 2016.

I know that this is for everyone to vent their frustrations and anger, I don't want to get flamed or get peoples heckles up.

This is my opinion of the updates the paid DLC and everything that goes with Ark..I'm honestly sick and tired of seeing people whine and complain about a game that is still in Alpha. Yes I'm using the Alpha card here, there are going to be bugs there are going to be things implemented into the game or DLC content that someone or many don't like and are mad about. But look at the bigger picture here. This game is amazing and WC is the only reason we're able to play it. Everyone that is complaining about the price and it being pay-to-win, have you thought about the people that are not American as Steam uses American currency, and the pay to win is a low blow really. It is the owner of the Server that decides if you can upload a Dino from Scorched Earth... If you don't want to pay don't buy simple. I don't have SC on PC simply because I can't afford it atm, but I would gladly pay $30 for it in my Country just to play and keep the game going.

They could have charged for the other 2 DLC's if they really wanted to regardless of whether it was created by Modders or not. As for future DLC I have seen on a few comments from WC that there will be future DLC that are to be bought and that was always their intention, just do some research and actually read the posts.

In saying all this I am neither with or against WildCard on what they do, I am however asking people to look at the bigger picture and appreciate what they have so far.

@RedNeonNinja30 I did see a post from WildCard about that while I was looking at updates and suck, and they did say that down the track they are hoping to remove the Tether completely but there isn't really a time frame on it.

Here's the problem with your 'theory' , In order for them to "Charge " for the other 2 'dlc' They would have first had to restrict the mod from pc users for use. Second, purchase them "legally" ( I know something around here done legally, am i right, lol) from the modders, assuming ownership of said 'mods' . Then once they have coded them out of pc players being able to use them , having already downloaded them. Made them paid DLC for both pc and console users.

Add fuel and watch both sides ( pc and xbox and now 'maybe*' PS ) of players go nuclear on wildcard. You say why ? Well the biggest is removing what was just made for all players by a mod'er that was intended to be free , being marketed. Though From the mod'er point of view, what would be a market price of said 'dlc' Well from Prim plus , I would recommend that ced get 50% of all gross sales from it. and that is more then fair since he did primitive plus add on's from the ground up. I would also say 50% of all gross sales from the Center also.

Now you do the math, do you see that even being able to happen ? Logically no , you could not. between what it would cost them , also , once they own them all future work done on them is now on wildcard . Since they don't have very much on them already should be a breeze right ?

Ark core island  on pc xbox and now soon ps
SotF on pc xbox and now soon ps
SE on pc xbox and now soon ps
Oh with their own primitive vrs.

Sure I bet they couldn't wait to buy up primitive plus and the center to put under their belt for paid dlc.
Since they have no problems keeping up with where they are at now.

I'm not taking anything away from wildcard , Personally I feel with everything they have weighting on them that they do now, they are doing an amazing job.
And I love the time I have spent on and played ark.
All I'm saying is you could add some practical approach to your theories before running with them .
