  • Introducing the Thylacoleo!

    large.dossier_Thylacoleo.jpg.ebcce173d1b

    Common Name: Thylacoleo

    Species: Thylacoleo Furtimorsus

Time: Late Pliocene - Late Pleistocene

    Diet: Carnivore

    Temperament: Aggressive

    Wild

Thylacoleo Furtimorsus is a large, powerful marsupial that can often be found hunting around trees. Its long claws and semi-opposable digits make it an apt climber, a quality that Thylacoleo uses to its advantage while hunting. It clambers up trees and waits to ambush passing prey by pouncing upon them. When something that large jumps onto a target, it becomes stunned and doesn’t stand much chance.

Thylacoleo’s most notable fighting quality is its powerful jaws. Once it bites its prey, it locks its jaw in an iron-strength grip that can hold most smaller creatures in place. Thylacoleo then goes on to savage its prey with its sharp claws. If it needs to escape a fight, Thylacoleo uses its muscular hind legs to jump back to safety among the trees.

    Domesticated

Thylacoleo is a moderately strong mount, and its ability to climb trees and jump long distances makes it useful for traversal such that developing tribes often tame it. Small raiding parties particularly favor Thylacoleo, as it is well suited to ambushes and unfair fights.

Indeed, that'd be really fun in pvp if it can be mounted while doing so.

It looks like the Thylacoleo is doing unseemly things to that Saber. But oh man this thing looks like fun. I hope Raptors get similar functionality in that they can pounce and then hold.

Awesome role letting it climb trees! Will you be doing the same with the Mesolithecus?

At long last, a dossier for this fella! :D (now the Chalicotherium just needs a dossier and all the critters announced by picture alone will have dossiers)

    It's looking good! :D

This animal is such a beast!

I like how Thylacoleo can climb trees and I would certainly love the mechanic being added into the game. I also like how I could compare my fan dossier to the official one and see how similar they are. This thing is definitely going to be a monster.

Really excited about all these recent climbers AND the addition of "clamping down on a target"
Hoping to see this applied to bigger predators later in the game. My Rex feels silly biting small animals more than once when he could swing them around a bit for massive damage :D

Finally, a reason to look up while walking on the ground, besides while looking for a bird early game. Very cool addition! :D
It's going to change the way I play for sure. Just like when the Alien games introduced enemies with the ability to crawl on the ceiling. Upped the scary factor multiple times.

Trees are evil. They pray upon innocent wanderers. (Tree Bug lately)

Now they will be even more dangerous O.o But gotta love the new climb mechanics, hope it can be implemented without problems to Devs.

It can climb up trees? That is too neat!

Am I ever glad the devs didn't give that ability to Titanoboas.  :P

The Dossier makes it sound like a forest version of the Megalania, but this sounds like the better option for a mount.

I can imagine me dashing into a forest on one, forgetting its ability for a sec ( cause I tend to do that sadly ) and then run up a tree in high speed getting all confused.
"Why is my screen all leaves??!?! aaaaah!!!"

xD I am looking forward to it. (no sarcasm. i really am.)

That clamp thing could be applied very well to the Argy, allow you to either pick up a large creature with multiple Argies or hold onto something's back while you attack it :P

Maybe all these marsupials could be in a desert/savanna biome, like how normal mammals are found in the cold biome.

    Nice! No saddle though again.

I think you're mistaken. It says it's a moderately strong mount. There's a picture of someone on the back of one too. I believe it will have a saddle.

Awesome with this guy does that mean the Sarcho can finally clamp down and hold the larger dinos? It was a suggestion WAY back we all made to kinda help it along.
Super glad to see more "mobility" oriented fauna that can let people play in a variety of game styles.
