  • Community Crunch 385: Console and LiveOps Update, Extra Life Update, and More!

What a whirlwind of a week it's been for both our team and all of you. We've ridden the exhilarating highs of ASA's PC release, watching it claim the top spot on the Steam charts, and we've ridden the rollercoaster of post-launch LiveOps with its share of hitches and victories. On the flip side, there's no denying the disappointment accompanying the delay of ASA's console launch. We felt it, too. Let’s get straight into the console news:

    Xbox Series X/S and Windows:

We’re on track for a November 14th (Tuesday) launch day!  As we get closer to the launch, we’ll share more information on precisely when it should be available for you to download. The Xbox version will be up-to-spec with the latest PC functionality as of Nov 14, and will launch directly into crossplay with the PC version (along with new servers, including Xbox-only servers).

    Playstation:

We’re hoping to have a more precise date to share with you soon as we’re currently finalizing this with Sony, but it is slated for the end of November. We know this isn’t ideal, but we’re optimistic we’ll be able to share a date very soon!

Following the PC launch and the information and data we’ve gathered, we’ve decided to make some changes to our plans for the console launch. Here’s how everything is going to shake up:

    Xbox Launch

    • Cross-platform with Steam will be enabled Day One.
    • We’ll be onlining a new set of Official Servers for the respective game modes (PVP, PVE, and Small Tribes). These servers will be running boosted rates for a period of time to allow players starting on them to catch up. Our hope is to synchronize the rates by mid-December.
    • We’ll also be onlining our first set of console-specific servers at this moment so that players who do not want to play on crossplay can play on those

    PlayStation Launch

    • Cross-platform with Steam and Xbox will be enabled Day One
    • We’ll be onlining another new set of Official Servers for the respective game modes (PVP, PVE, and Small Tribes). These servers will be running with even higher boosted rates for a period of time to allow players starting on them to catch up. Our hope is to synchronize the rates by mid-December.
    • We’ll also be onlining an additional set of console-specific servers with higher rates that will get synchronized by mid-December

Of course, there have been a few bumps along the way, and we're working hard to address any issues that players are reporting.  We’ve put out a record number of patches this week, but the patches can be summarized as

    • Bug fixes: We've fixed a number of bugs, including server crashes, dino spawn issues, and mesh exploits.
    • Performance improvements: We've made a number of performance improvements, including optimizing the dynamic navmesh system, server code (80%+ reduction in out-of-memory issues), and foliage.  We're also pleased to announce that we've significantly reduced server RAM usage. This should improve the player experience and help make servers more accessible for everyone
    • Security improvements: We've added client-side protections to prevent players from listing unofficial servers as fake officials, and we've fixed a number of exploits.

For detailed patch notes visit this page.

We know there is still plenty more work to be done on all of those fronts, but we're committed to making ARK: Survival Ascended the best survival game it can be. We'll continue to release patches with bug fixes and performance improvements in the coming days, along with major feature additions over the coming weeks (and introducing Public Test Realm next week – more on that soon). In the meantime, thank you for your support and patience. We hope you're enjoying ARK: Survival Ascended so far!

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the delay of Extralife 2023 from November 4th to December 2nd. We know this is late notice, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may cause to our ExtraLife team members and those who join the stream to engage with us every year. If you’d still like to stream on Game Day, we more than encourage you to do so and we’d be happy to provide support. Also, if you want to wait for our stream day, that works too ?

This decision was not made lightly, as we have participated in ExtraLife’s “Game Day” event for 6 years.  Extralife is not only a day where we come together to raise money for children in need, but it’s also a day that we cherish because we get to hang out with the ARK community. We want to make sure that the event is a success for all of our participants, donors, and sponsors, and we believe that moving the date is necessary to ensure that we can hit the mark. That also means we need to make sure that as many ARK players as possible can take part and because of the console delay, we need to push back the date.

Extralife is one of our favorite events of the year, and we love seeing the community come together to raise money for such a worthy cause. We can’t wait to run it with you in a few weeks!  Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to seeing you on December 2nd for Extralife 2023!

PC is filled with way more cheaters then we wanna deal with honestly. And your gonna allow cross play with pc Day one are you sick in the fkin head? You gave them a month to play the game develop hacks and cheats that they can use in ASA and ur gonna allow them to play with console day one what a joke dude!!! I’m beyond livid

I for the life of me cannot understand why all the developers are so interested in this cross play crap. stop wasting time on cross play, nobody wants to play with cheaters.

As I stated on discord, many are stating this is a Sony problem… perhaps it is because WC has been sooo up front and honest with their customers so far! You decide

I guess this is great news? I'm really happy for Xbox and windows players but as a PlayStation player, I'm a little heartbroken. This is getting rediculous.

Now that i think about it will PlayStation players even get mods or is that a lie as well?

If we don't get Mods blame it on Sony, they hate Mods because "MOdS aRE a BrEAcH tO OUr SeCUrITy1!1!1!1!1!"

They won't allow external assets so no Ark Addtions, no CFK, no Kraken's better Dinos, most of the cool mods. Maybe variant Mods and the Gameplay mods would be fine (and those would be the ones you could blame Wildcard for not allowing), but don't get mad at them. Get mad at Sony.

Also I used to be a Playstation player so please don't get mad at me :(

No Dreadnoughtus art, no creature vote, no anything. A bit of info about consol release. A nice reminder of delays (something we totally need). Nothing too substantial. As far as Community Crunches go, I'd give this a good 2.5/10.

For the dread art they might release it with the next creature vote and next week will be the 8th week(2 months) since we haven’t had a creature vote. Fingers crossed ?

I hear ya, but after all the broken promises and delays, I think I may take my hard-earned cash and pals to another game, one that offers fair play. There's quite a few decent looking games coming out very soon, and hey, got forced to buy a shiny new PS5 so might as well actually play something on it!

What's the betting that PS5 will launch late night on 3oth Nov, take a day to download, servers will be so packed no one will be able to get on, right before the extra life event? Hmmmm

Which PlayStation, which Xbox??? You make the servers normal, constantly crashes from the server, there are few servers, it is impossible to connect to your server. Where are you going to add people PlayStation and Xbox? Are you all right with your heads?? Fix the game, increase the number of servers, fix server failures, and don't do nonsense...

I feel you, my PlayStation brothers and sisters. Though our consoles are different I'll stand in solidarity with you guys. I'm not touching the game until it's out on all platforms. My kids and I have waited this long, what's a few more weeks. At least we've still got ASE right?

Soo over this crap, seems more like the CEO’s Pc/Microsoft fanboy BS then anything, there’s no loyalty for PS gamers, nor was there any intention to launch this for everyone simultaneously from the beginning, it’s just lie after lie and let down every month, I’m not waiting around for this crap anymore and if PS gamers are wise, they wouldn’t feed anymore money into wildcard and this BS any longer.

It's honestly a toss up, Sony *HATES* mods in games on their platforms, like with Skyrim and Fallout 4 (also a big reason why Minecraft hasn't been updated on their platform in ages, they just don't like fun and creativity I guess.) But fingers crossed y'all get em, would really hate for Sony to screw their players/paying customers over in another crossplatform game...

Trash, how much is Xbox lining those pockets. Should have just waited and released both at the same time. PS is getting crapped on just like snail is doing and has done to all the die hard fans of ark. If your company would have done an open beta with direct feed back it would have fixed so many of your issues. (Free game testers anyone) I’m done.

The game is early access, how much more open do you want it, free? Lol

If the “problem” that caused they console delay was solely based on multiplayer functionality why couldn’t yall just release the game without it that way we could at least play on single player instead of having to watch pc play it without us..

I'm joyed, and also not surprised by the news.

I'm over joyed that Xbox Consoles will be getting ASA in the next two weeks. Now, the fact PS is taking so long doesn't surprise me. Sony never has been very big on allowing modding with there games, so it is a lot for them to suck in their pride and allow to send out a game that allows modders free roam on their consoles through this game. Will ASA come to PS, maybe... maybe soon if Sony removes the money from their eyes.

Apart from the performance upgrades, which you are already working on, it would be great if you could raise the structure and taming limit soon...
To say that you have improved the performance of bases, but at the expense of the size of the base, somehow feels wrong.
In addition, the taming limit is also an imposition and a catastrophe, especially for breeders.

I know it probably can't be increased until the servers and clients are running better, but it would at least be nice to know if there are plans to increase it or not.

It's not an big issue that we (PS5) have to wait we are used to that.  it's a fact that with cross platform enabled day one that we will be so far behind Xbox and PC.  What if my tribe is strictly PS5, we won't have a chance being so far behind the other platforms! I have to say I'm not very happy with this, and really debating on even getting this game!

Another thing that just occurred to me: When will we benefit from the promised increased visibility of dinos on official servers? I can't see any of that at the moment...
