  • Community Crunch 298: Fjordur Creature Vote Winner, Community Corner, and More!

    Happy New Year!

We hope you enjoyed your Winter Wonderland and had some time to spend with your tribes (in and out of game ūü§ď).¬† Although¬†we are continuing¬†to focus some development efforts on Lost Island, we want don't want you to lose sight of new content that's to come in 2022!¬†

In addition to 3 new creatures launching in June with Fjordur, we'll also be releasing Carcharodontosaurus as a separate, free update later in 2022!

Let's take a look at the dossiers of 2 new creatures coming to Fjordur and announce the winner of the second Community Creature Vote.

    ARK_Fjordur_Dossier_Andrewsarchus.jpg

    andrewsarchus.png

    Common Name: Andrewsarchus
    Species: Andrewsarchus mongoliensis
    Time: Middle Eocene
    Diet: Omnivore
    Temperament: Opportunistic

    wild.png
Andrewsarchuses are full of surprises. These ungainly creatures seem sluggish while foraging for a meal, but they can move unexpectedly fast when provoked. Like some other whippomorphs, an Andrewsarchus will aggressively defend its territory against interlopers its size or smaller on sight.

With some distance between you, it might be possible to dodge a charging Andrewsarchus, since they don’t exactly turn on a dime. Just don’t expect a river or lake to protect you from one. If its feet can touch bottom, Andrewsarchus will barely be slowed by deep water.

These scavengers will tear into just about anything if hungry, but they do seem to have a sweet tooth. I've seen Andrewsarchuses pacified by honey and sweet fruit.

    domesticated.png
Once tamed, Andrewsarchus is a reliably fast beast of burden, as long as you don’t need it to take any corners at full speed. Its density in water also makes it ideal for searching the ocean floors for pearls.

Andrewsarchus is probably most useful for light reconnaissance, once you mount a minigun to the back of its saddle. It can't absorb as much damage as some of the ARKs' larger creatures, but it's great for harassing them.

Some say a gun-saddled Andrewsarchus reminds them of a puma, a walrus, or even a warthog, but I don't see it.

    Dossier_Fjordhawk.jpg

    fjordhawk_p.png

    Common Name: Fjordhawk
    Species: Parabuteo ve√įrf√∂lnir
    Time: Mid-late Anthropocene
    Diet: Omnivore
    Temperament: Calculating

    wild.png
Most of the creatures I’ve encountered here have endured thanks to their great size, strength, or ferocity. But the fjordhawk gets by on its wits and by scavenging. The bird also seems to have an almost preternatural ability to predict and avoid danger. Fjordhawks follow predators (and survivors) from on high, watching for their moment to swoop in and snatch up an easy meal.

    domesticated.png
Tamed fjordhawks are surprisingly playful, and their favorite game is fetch. Indulge your bird with this play and a bit of patience, and you’ll reap the rewards. Just point out a target, and your fjordhawk will fly off to retrieve it for you. A well-trained fjordhawk can locate injured prey and communicate its find to you.

These clever birds will bond with humans as wholeheartedly as any canine or primate, in a way uniquely suited to this time and place. If you should meet with some grave misfortune, your fjordhawk will immediately fly off with as many of your belongings as it can carry. As soon as you’re respawned by the ARK, your friend will track you down and return your equipment to you!

    Wot?

it's being added as a free bonus. No relation to the new map at all. It's (likely) only getting added to keep the whiners quiet.

Carchara didn't get second place, it's not even getting released with the three creatures that come with the new map.

It maintained second in the vote replay as sad as it is to see, and while it won't be released alongside the other three it's eventually getting added later. Bit sad really, I would've preferred the bison. I'm actually really surprised it didn't gain as much traction in the vote proper considering the support it had.

They shouldn't have let it be an option and say that it's never going to be added to silence them

So the Carcharodontosaurus comes ‚Äúlater this year‚Ä̬†(after June) onto only¬†Fjordur or onto multiple maps?

Right? I really can't see how the Carchardo dino or whatever its called is going to be any different to what we already have? I have a feeling it'll be lazy abilities like bleed, or the reaper statue jump animation. I hope i get surprised, because right now, i don't have much hope for this Cardigan dino lol

And it literally LOST TWICE and they are still adding it?? Like what is that? So dumb.

Can you just fix what already exists? Prim+ gets more and more broken with every update. Can't even play abb with no glass. I mean, it is a whole game mode featured on the main menu...You know one of only TWO ūüôĄ

The bison filled a more unique niche than the carcharadontosaurus would have. While I'll give you the point that it also lost twice its kinda goofy to presume that these would in any way be comparable.

Either way, They are going to cry about it on the note that "It's not what they wanted"... That being a Giga TLC. will it be better than the rex? Probably not. Will it be better than giga? Everything is better than giga. Did we need it? Nope. Do giga fans care? They are 8-10 years old, they shouldn't even be on the internet alone never mind playing a game they aren't old enough to own.

On the plus side we got a Giant bat, and who knows who animal #3 is? we will pound it into the heads of Carchara fans that their desire was a very bad idea.

That would just result in them crying anyway. Just look at the last vote.

I don't consider capitulation good in any circumstance. I'd have been just as hesistant if the bat lost but still got added despite voting for it. You don't cheapen the vote by offering the grandprize to the runner up too and you don't get it in people's heads that they can get their way even after losing. It only breeds a spoiled consumer base.

I agree, Carchara adds nothing of value. It's just a big Carnivore with typical Carnivore features. We don't need yet another big Carnivore, yet we are getting it anyway because a bunch of snot-nosed children were crying loud enough for the devs to cave. I hope it ends up being the weakest thing in the game just to spite them.

It's not so much that we hate we are getting four creatures as it is WHAT that fourth is. We don't need more big carnivores, period.

PvP is  For Thugs, Cyber Bullies, and trolls. It's a Cancerous dung show and nothing more.

WC has pandered to PvP enough, it's time the BETTER mode that is PvE got something nice for a change.

Let's go Giant Bat! Woo! They could make the Charcar interesting in its utility but I do think the bison should have gotten runner up.

I was even thinking the goat would have been cool. Having a big Gogoat to ride up was growing on me.

My thought was since we have Horses, Sheep, Pigs, Goats (Shinhorn), and Chickens then why not Cows too?
