  • Community Crunch 163: Structures Plus & Kibble Rework Beta This Week!

Hey Survivors! Welcome to the latest edition of the Community Crunch! :Jerbhi:

Structures Plus (S+) & Kibble Rework!

We're starting off 2019 strong! The promised public beta including S+ and Kibble changes will be available by the end of this week for PC players to play with. When we're ready to share the build we'll give you some more information on how to opt-in to this build through Steam.

S+ Features that will be in the beta branch:

    large.image-(1).jpg

    Changes:

    • Made structure quick pickup time configurable in ini file (ServerSettings -> StructurePickupTimeAfterPlacement, default = 30)
    • Added new ini config option to ignore the duration and always allow quick pickup (ServerSettings -> AlwaysAllowStructurePickup, default = false)
    • Improved quick pickup HUD text to avoid overlapping other text, and to format durations as timestamps if over 60 seconds to support very long times if configured for that
    • Enabled structure quick pickup for ALL structures. For structures that previously had pickup disabled, they now auto-disable quick pickup as soon as the player interacts with the structure in any way (unless AlwaysAllowStructurePickup is set to true)

    New structures/variants:

    • Added 'smooth' sidewall textures variants (like the stone foundation) to the stock square foundations [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Thatch, Wood]
    • Triangle foundations [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood]
    • Triangle ceilings [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood, Greenhouse]
    • Triangle roofs [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood, Greenhouse]
    • Large (4x height) walls [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood]
    • Flexible pipe [Stone, Metal]
    • Flexible electrical cable
    • Stairs (with freely swappable ramp variant) [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood]
    • Double door frames [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood]
    • Double doors [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood]
    • Dedicated storage (Tek structure that allows storing a large amount of a single resource)
    • Fence supports (allows you to build fences that are level along the top) [Adobe, Metal, Stone, Tek, Wood]

Kibble changes that will be in the beta branch:

All eggs have been assigned a value based on the size and rarity of the egg. These sizes include: Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, and Special. The eggs are used in a recipe to create kibble of a coinciding value: Basic, Simple, Regular, Superior, Exceptional, and Extraordinary. This new system will make it so that creature kibble desires are based on the quality levels instead of specific creatures, which should greatly decrease the number of tamed creatures needed for the purposes of taming.

    Regarding previously crafted kibble:

    • Old kibbles will not be wiped, and will inherit their new "value/color" appropriately.
    • Old kibbles will still work to tame their appropriate creatures.
    • Old kibble will no longer be craftable, only the new types will be craftable.

We will be taking your feedback into serious consideration regarding both of these changes so we invite you to communicate with us on our social media, the forums, reddit, etc with your opinions and critique. Once we're happy with where these features are at, we will be bringing them over to the PC main game and then to all platforms (Xbox and PS4).

    Upcoming Server Maintenance!

At 12:00pm Eastern on January 8th we will be taking down some of Asia servers for maintenance. We expect maintenance to last for approximately 2 hours. During this time the servers will not be running therefore time will not progress. Once the servers are back online, they will require re-adding to your favorites list as they will have new IP addresses. You can find a list of affected servers at the link below.

Nintendo Switch servers will also be going offline for 15 min of maintenance at 12pm EST.

    Extinction Transfers Opening Soon!

    large_12.jpg

We have been getting a lot of questions about this lately and rightfully so. We will be opening server transfers on our official servers into Extinction on January 15th! This will be on all applicable platforms. There will be no transfer restrictions on creatures (unlike Aberration).

    Winter Wonderland Over!

    large.1482456762_WW2.jpg

This winter-themed holiday event how officially ended. The event will be turned off on official servers during a deployment tomorrow at 12pm PST, and will also automatically be disabled if your server restarts between now and then.

If you would like to continue the event on your server, you can use the command line: -ActiveEvent=WinterWonderland

once again the test will be done on PC. As if they really needed to test it. The consoles are still put back and we would have had a better judgment and finally a pleasure to test this but we still have to wait. I'm not here to spit on PC players but I find this PC test completely useless and devaluing for us console players. The MOD S+ is existing and we ask them to test it?

    Kibble Tree Question:

Will the eggs of Snow Owls, Velonasaurs, Rock Drakes, and Wyverns be put into the new tree?
The current [Extinction] Augmented kibble tree does not include them (per gamepedia's current Egg Size list).

One thing I'm wondering about - if we use the AlwaysAllowStructurePickup option set to true, will that mean that you always pick up structures by pressing the Use key when looking at them (that's what I assume "quick pickup" means) - so that we're at a risk of picking up structures when trying to pick up/use something close to them?

Use Case: I have Dimetrodons on a stone foundation and try to pick up their eggs - that's not always easy and sometimes I have to look away a bit to get the pickup - if I miss, will I risk picking up the stone foundation?

Use Case 2: I have a flyer parked right next to a wall and run to it quickly to jump on and fly away - will I risk picking up the wall if I aim a bit wrong before pressing the Use key?

We have dino leash now so the hitch post isn't really needed.

I disagree slightly... As far as I understand, the dino leash still allows the dinos to move (granted, I haven't used it myself yet), whereas the hitching post immobilises the dinos as well, which I love. I'll still miss that aspect of the hitching post. Also, as someone else stated, it's only in Extinction and on top of that there are cosmetic and usability differences that are, to me, in the hitching post's favour. For instance, I like how you specifically choose which dinos to hitch and that there isn't a range marker (red ring) on the ground.

What I miss the most, though, is that roofs align with foundations so that one can build better on slopes (especially if there are no stackable foundations)

Lastly, another hand up here for stackable foundations! :) Also, I hope the S+ quirk of fence foundations not being snappable to the edges of roofs doesn't carry over :) I need that to make my 45 degree turns in my water pen :P Currently I need to still use the vanilla fence foundations to make it work (or I'm missing something, but I've really tried a lot).

With all this said, I'm not worried or displeased at all. I have a few questions and a couple of remaining desires, but I'm amazed and thrilled about these changes and it has been well worth the wait! Excited to see the new textures as well! Great job!!

Just because it exist doesnt mean its 100% stable when parts of it arr being cannibilized and implemented as base game. Would you rather suffer thr bugs it might contain inside like all the other bugs that has not been fixed? PC in a sense are mostly the guinea pigs so consoles can get less issue.

you say your starting off 2019 strong  yet you have a broken extinction map on the xbox . this map has been pointless since launch with massive dashboard issues terrible render issues and playdoh looking dinos just to name a few . and since launch we have had 2 patches that have made things worse . you should be making the map playable before addin yet more stuff to this game i'm afraid you haven't learnt anything in 2018

Wow. I have only a few thing to say:

Thanks for the new kibble system, really! I used to have tons of dinos (and lag.. and server dino cap for this reason) parked in my base. Now i have only a few. Just a question: The kibbles that need the Element Dust and the Corrupted Nodule are going to have A different recipe on the other maps? Nodules have a spoiling time and Gachas don't produce them, so I wonder if this is going to change.
This new system won't make the rest of the dinos useless by the way, with the TLC the Parasaur became pretty good for example. We use it as a baby-detector XD And yeah, I hope you go ahead with the TLC, so we can tame other dinos as well for their skills and not just the eggs ^^ There are still a lot of models that need to be remake because obsolete and a lot of dinos that need more love!
I also say that I didn't expect the implementation of the Dedicated Storage XD That's cool!

@Jen What's happening to the Structures Plus mod itself? There is talk about the mod being removed from the workshop by end of January and Orionsun can't open source it, nor it's sister mods Platforms Plus and Platforms Anywhere, since WildCard owns the rights to all 3 mods, especially since you are talked about not adding everything in those mods like the utility guns and the utility npc's (Item Collector, Farmer, est.), and the Resource Pulling system.

It won't be removed from Steam workshop.

The update from Orionsun is here: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/731604991/1741103267268036422/

That would have nothing to do with the upcoming update.

One thing on ps4 that needs fixing is the ability to move our characters from one dedicated server to another. I run a dedicated server on a ps4 for me and my friends and when we decide to change maps it forces us to start a whole new character. That also has the effect of locking the map specific engrams that we already had learned from previous maps we played through.

Wait... “old kibble will no longer be craftable?!?” Why not? I’m really not happy about having to turn all my stored eggs into kibble before the rework. I like the ADDITION of the new kibbles, I don’t like the idea of taking the old kibble away. Besides, where do players on the island, scorched, ragnarok and the center get dust, red & blue sap? Please keep the old kibble recipes and just add the new ones.

Btw, if you’re looking for a dino that desperately NEEDS TLC it’s the Archaeopteryx. That thing is pointless. Why not make it carryable (like the microraptor) and deployable like the parachute?

    For the kibble tree rework

Please make artifacts grindable to get element dust on any map

I hope you add the green gems, red and blue sap to the cave systems of every map and fungal wood either in cares or swamp and I hope the simple kibble takes organic polymer or corrupt nodules or the new kibbles will not be able to be made unless you own extinction

Also will we be able to mix old pre made kibble into new kibble types adding maybe one or two ingredients? A large amount of us have 300+ of each imprint kibble already crafted that could become next to useless unless we can mix or convert dodo kibble into simple kibble by adding in the missing new reaource

They are reworking the kibble try, why do you need to convert all your eggs into old kibble, dodo kibble takes 3 things but after a kibble rework it will be used to make simple augmented kibble that will likely be able to tame 15 to 20 things, making it more usable, also they will most likely change the requested kibble on imprints to the new list too

    Regarding previously crafted kibble:

    • Old kibbles will not be wiped, and will inherit their new "value/color" appropriately.
    • Old kibbles will still work to tame their appropriate creatures.
    • Old kibble will no longer be craftable, only the new types will be craftable.

One of the questions I have about this.  When it says that they will inherit their new values appropriately does that mean for instance rex kibble (that has already been crafted) will be able to be used to tame say a Basilosaurus?  Since rex and theriz are both considered Extra Large egg?
