  • ARK: Scorched Earth Expansion Pack!

    Hello Survivors!

The Mysterious Mysteries have finally come to a close with the single biggest update in our 14-month development cycle. Studio Wildcard is proud to announce our first expansion pack, ARK: Scorched Earth.

    large.ARK_SE_0.png.b2be62ca4ea2076c5eb09

Scorched Earth is an completely new and different experience from The Island. Stranded naked, dehydrated and starving on a fiery, drought-ridden desert world, Survivors must immediately seek water, hunt for food, harvest new flora, craft new items, and build shelter from the extreme heat.

    large.ARK_SE_1.png.1ae8b200ca3b8de1fad6b

Scorched Earth is an entirely new map, composed of seven unique, desert themed biomes – dunes, high desert, mountains, canyons, badlands, oasis and the ever-dangerous dragon trench – each with their own aesthetics, resources & ecosystems, and littered with ruins, geysers, and intricate ancient cave systems.

    large.ARK_SE_05.png.3e0c93469cedcfb13791

    large.ARK_SE_08.png.c60ba64f74afa2cf70a8

The desert’s biomes are filled with fantastical new creatures, many of which can be tamed. Lead a caravan of the camel-like Morellatops, or rain fire down on your enemies from the back of a Wyvern. Just mind your step in the vast desert, or you might attract a Death Worm!

    large.ARK_SE_10.png.8c75b8a9dc12b366a5f7

One of the easiest resources to obtain on The Island has now become arguably one of the most valuable resources on this new map: water. Players must re-learn what it means to survive and thrive in a harsh desert environment depleted of water resources.

    large.ARK_SE_04.png.840d3c859ef64521026e

Discover over 50 new items to craft including new outfits and structures to protect from the heat, and new tools to help survive in the harsh environment. Carry temporary shelter with you using tents, employ whips, boomerangs and flamethrowers for ‘defense’, wind turbines to generate clean power, and water wells & oil refineries to harvest scarce resources, among many new mechanics!

    large.ARK_SE_07.png.d224800974e69b65244f

Prepare yourself for new weather experiences including dangerous electrical storms, blinding sand storms, befuddling heat stroke.

    large.ARK_SE_9.png.85838680102ad55477fd6

Unleash the power of the Obelisks to come face-to-face with ARK’s fourth and deadliest boss creature to date  – the ferocious Manticore!

    large.ARK_SE_12.png.8fef7a950227851233a0

Scorched Earth utilizes a new feature called The Gateway, a cross-server ARK transfer. Survivors who manage to survive the harsh arid conditions can travel back and forth from the Scorched Earth map to the ARK: Survival Evolved main game, taking with them newly collected tools, weapons, and their newly tamed creatures to impress their friends and dazzle their combatants.

    large.ARK_SE_11.png.d432d294c61ede2ac988

Scorched Earth is available starting today on Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview. As Scorched Earth is an expansion, players already must own ARK: Survival Evolved in order to play.

    Xbox Update v739!

On top of the Scorched Earth content, Xbox One player will also be receive a new update that brings them up to speed with lots of the content already available on PC. The update will also include a HD resolution upgrade to fully support 720p gameplay with 1080p UI’s.

Primitive+ is now an official part of ARK: Survival Evolved on Xbox One, which features over 100 new items, weapons, structures, and survival mechanics oriented towards “primitive” style living -- effectively doubling the amount of content within ARK!

Newly available as part of the ‘ARK Official Mods Program’ today, Primitive+ is a functionality mod playable on official ARK maps, challenging players to use weapons and tools only made of wood and stone, without the benefit of advanced metals to create weapons such as guns. It's a whole new set of items and detailed mechanics focused on 'primitive' survival, which fits snugly in the world of ARK.

In addition, the versatile Pelagornis and the pack-minded Allosaurus, along with a new Fishing Rod and fishing mechanic, and a flurry of additional gameplay features have been added!

    Additional Update v739 Content Includes:
    - New Item: Fishing Rod + Fishing Mechanic! Be a pro fisherman as you apply varied bait, cast the line, wait for a fish to become ensnared, and then succeed at a mini-game to reel the fish and claim copious rewards!
    - New Structure: Industrial Grinder that grinds items into a portion of their crafting resources, then converts resources into simpler resources
    - New Structure: Spiral Staircase (Stone/Wood/Metal)
    - New Mechanic: Optional Hitmarkers for ranged attacks (server can toggle them, as well as client if the server allows it)
    - Building Attack/Destruction TribeLogs

The amount of people complaining about the game not being released yet is insane. The sole amount on hype I am getting

could power half of this globe. I will not be able to sleep after this. Oh why do I have school, when I dont need it. Fml

Wildcard you should be ashamed of yourselves.  At this point I hope no one buys it and you have to give it away for free.  What awful customer service to people who have supported you for years through this "alpha" (paid beta) process.

so now the game is pay to win?

people who own the DLC automatically have an advantage and can make more weapons and bring in unobtainable creatures to players who don't own the DLC.

Whatever happened to the promise of no paywall?

Won't the engram system need to be updated somehow for this?

I mean, at the very least, there's a couple dozen new SADDLES that we ought to be able to learn over on the new world.  I would assume there'd be a few more odds-and-ends in the way of tech that we'd need over there.    Does that mean our toon suddenly gets more engram points?

Really? So the original ark is still in alpha, the primitive plus you just released is broken as hell but now you want us to buy an expansion pack for a game that hasn't been officially released ?DILO, how about you spend somemore time finishing the original product before trying to milk more cash out of us

wait wait wait WAIT!! So what wc is saying is we once said dlc would be free to now pay for it. Did someone miss that interview when they started to roll this out. Also the reason to transfer creatures back and forth is to get people that don't have it the urge to buy it. Great marketing strategy. But there is one thing I have to say. Dedicated servers can stop all download creatures.. Just saying..

Srsly who gives a poop about this DLC? Start working on gamebraking imbalanced crap like the quetz armor platform and mass foundation spamming by chinese, instead of spamming new content. The game is getting more broken every update. This DLC gives a poopload of new exploits to players.

Are all/most of the new Official ARKs going to be Expansions?

EDIT: By that I mean will they cost money?

This expansion has apparently been in development from the beginning. It was already planned. And had they met their original release date, it would have been released right around the time frame when they said they wanted to release their first DLC, (three months after launch...).The way I see it, Ark's original release has been delayed only because the studio found that it wanted to do more than it originally planned and ultimately deliver a better product. You could maybe argue that's not the best way to run the development process, but I am continually awed by what this team can and is putting together. I will happily buy the DLC, enjoy it to no end, and continue to support this amazing team. I look forward to full launch with even greater anticipation.

Also, with regards to the concerns over adding fantasy creatures to ARK, I welcome the blend, and for those that want the DLC maps to remain separate, I'm sure that sooner or later there will be Vanilla Servers for various DLC that don't allow creatures from other ARKS.

seems by the lack of replies on any forum from the ark devs the new dlc is being forced in the 8.2gb update today whether uve bought it or not which is a breach of international law maybe a dev would like to reply now ayyy????

Destiny had DLC locked away in the game even if you didn't buy it... Pretty sure this is pretty legal, unless Bungie just has good liars, *cough* I mean lawyers.

Will i be the only sucker...

...actually playing Scorched Earth instead of just having a mod or an admin to provide the new content for me?

maybe.  I refuse to support such a shady business practice.  They've gone back on their word multiple times and their game isn't even finished.  I've been waiting for tek tier for ages and now i find out it would be out if they didn't spend who knows how many hours on this PAID dlc?  Awful company.

So back in July there were a number of upcoming changes that folks had been waiting on that really would improve the feel of the game.  Things like fixing dinos getting stuck on trees, adding basic pathing and other AI to dinos, fixing engram layout so it wasn't such a cluster@#$*() finding things,  fixing the documentation for the devkit since it was out of date, getting better about announcing and hitting patch targets.

I will point out that was all in July of last year, 14 months ago,  I left in November and recently came back to see what had been fixed, sadly the answer is 'not a lot' but hey there are prehistoric kangaroos so there's that.

Then you promptly borked up the one half way decent semi-official mod that tried to fix balance issues by making it an official TC (looking at you prim+), apparently promptly abandoned it and released this new paid for expansion.  I suspect these mysterious creatures will also get stuck on trees (or cactuses or something), include horribly sorted engrams and some absolutely required devkit change required to support the expansion that for some inexplicable reason is tied to the base game and will be delayed for a month (see Survival of the Fittest release) thus borking many modded game servers.

So congrats on the expansion, it's a lot of work and you probably deserve a back pat but it sure would have been nice to fix some of the 16 month old bugs first.

Why would you spend time on this and not release the game is on  ps4? You can literally release the game on the system but choose to make paid dlc for pc.

Seriously you claim sony blocks you because it's early access (proven false based on numerous early access games on ps4) and even then all you have to do is just call it released and be done with it. Ark as it is can verify considered complete.

I have it on pc, I have it on xbone. But the system I actually want to play It on is ps4 yet you guys continue to mess around and seemingly put resources elsewhere. You missed multiple release dates now and now it's "it might come out sometime this or next year" yet no info still.

Your hype has died dramatically on ps4. Back in June people were eagearly awaiting but you canceled it and the junk survival of the fittest spinoff. Seriously, it's like your company is opposed to money. The biggest xbone problem was it was so popular you couldn't get in a server and that was the biggest issue for MONTHS you have a great game so why mess around with dlc now when you should be getting the game out first?!?

My point exactly they don't care about the people who want it on the Ps4. At this point it looks like we will never get the game and ive lost all faith in them as developers

The salt is strong with this thread...

Nah but in all seriousness it was poor timing to release before the game was completed but still they've claimed scorched earth is "complete and polished" so this should give us a taste of what the full game will run like. The only real complaint i have is that this wasn't a standalone dlc, means i have to download the god damn 24GB update and the 5GB scorched earth before i can play it -.-

I'm disappointed, I'm not buying any dlc (more expensive than the original game) before the game actually releases.

And I suppose there will not be more updates for Ark, all your efforts will be on the new dlc.

If you ask me, it is a greedy way to earn more money.
