  • ARK: Scorched Earth Expansion Pack!

    Hello Survivors!

The Mysterious Mysteries have finally come to a close with the single biggest update in our 14-month development cycle. Studio Wildcard is proud to announce our first expansion pack, ARK: Scorched Earth.

    large.ARK_SE_0.png.b2be62ca4ea2076c5eb09

Scorched Earth is an completely new and different experience from The Island. Stranded naked, dehydrated and starving on a fiery, drought-ridden desert world, Survivors must immediately seek water, hunt for food, harvest new flora, craft new items, and build shelter from the extreme heat.

    large.ARK_SE_1.png.1ae8b200ca3b8de1fad6b

Scorched Earth is an entirely new map, composed of seven unique, desert themed biomes – dunes, high desert, mountains, canyons, badlands, oasis and the ever-dangerous dragon trench – each with their own aesthetics, resources & ecosystems, and littered with ruins, geysers, and intricate ancient cave systems.

    large.ARK_SE_05.png.3e0c93469cedcfb13791

    large.ARK_SE_08.png.c60ba64f74afa2cf70a8

The desert’s biomes are filled with fantastical new creatures, many of which can be tamed. Lead a caravan of the camel-like Morellatops, or rain fire down on your enemies from the back of a Wyvern. Just mind your step in the vast desert, or you might attract a Death Worm!

    large.ARK_SE_10.png.8c75b8a9dc12b366a5f7

One of the easiest resources to obtain on The Island has now become arguably one of the most valuable resources on this new map: water. Players must re-learn what it means to survive and thrive in a harsh desert environment depleted of water resources.

    large.ARK_SE_04.png.840d3c859ef64521026e

Discover over 50 new items to craft including new outfits and structures to protect from the heat, and new tools to help survive in the harsh environment. Carry temporary shelter with you using tents, employ whips, boomerangs and flamethrowers for ‘defense’, wind turbines to generate clean power, and water wells & oil refineries to harvest scarce resources, among many new mechanics!

    large.ARK_SE_07.png.d224800974e69b65244f

Prepare yourself for new weather experiences including dangerous electrical storms, blinding sand storms, befuddling heat stroke.

    large.ARK_SE_9.png.85838680102ad55477fd6

Unleash the power of the Obelisks to come face-to-face with ARK’s fourth and deadliest boss creature to date  – the ferocious Manticore!

    large.ARK_SE_12.png.8fef7a950227851233a0

Scorched Earth utilizes a new feature called The Gateway, a cross-server ARK transfer. Survivors who manage to survive the harsh arid conditions can travel back and forth from the Scorched Earth map to the ARK: Survival Evolved main game, taking with them newly collected tools, weapons, and their newly tamed creatures to impress their friends and dazzle their combatants.

Scorched Earth is available starting today on Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview. As Scorched Earth is an expansion, players already must own ARK: Survival Evolved in order to play.

I have been playing scorched earth for a few days, its loads of fun, the way I see it is, its basically a whole new ark game, the same ark we love but in a desert, sure its twenty bucks but for an awesome DLC like scorched earth i would gladly pay that price over again, wildcard worked hard to get this out there and all they have received is hate. Personally I am glad about the release and cant wait to see what wildcard has in store.

20 dollars is steep? Panhandlers on the side of the road make that in 20 minutes. If 20 dollars is steep for you, friend, maybe you should be doing something else with your life instead of playing video games that requires a cash flow. Was your XBOX/Playstation/PC free or a gift? Do you have a car that requires fuel and maintenance? How about bad habits like smoking or drinking alcohol or eating fast food? There's a million ways to trim the fat off life and come up with 20 bucks. Hell, go give plasma at a blood bank...that's enough for the DLC AND Mcdonald's. Win/win for you, friend.

Also, no one is making you buy the DLC on an unfinished game. But realize that it costs money to make money. It costs money to pay employees. It costs money to keep the electricity on. It costs money to pay for a lease on a company building. Money = corporate building + electricity + employees = Production.

Money = Production. You pay, game gets better. You don't pay, game stays the same.

Any game that is unfinished/Early release is in a kickstarter status. Help the fund, or don't. No need to complain about it.

I think the expansion is the bomb. We'll worth 20 bucks. Never really felt like basic "survival" was much of a problem on the island so i love the fact that it puts the focus back on actually trying to stay alive on a day to day basis (GOD I miss being surrounded by water and dodos) All the new mechanics are brilliantly done and the landscape is both brutally intimidating and savagely beautiful.

And honestly for all the bugs and missteps there have been I greatly enjoy the dynamic "work in progress" aspect of the early release. Getting brand new stuff every month is great, and I dont think they deserve half the crap they get in the forums as they have a very open and sincere dialog with the fan community regarding suggestions and fixes. I CERTAINLY prefer this to the way No Man's Sky went. Talking up a bunch of apparently empty hype for months and then putting out an absolute dog turd of a game. At least here we have a voice. Everyone certainly has a right and a good reason to be frustrated but for me the good outweighs the bad. You keep doin what you're doin Wild Card.

Damn dude, you don't gotta be all bitter. We all love this game and cant wait for it to be officially released (otherwise why would you care enough to post about it) but the fact of the matter is that it will take as long as it takes and you're either willing to wait for it or not. I agree 100% that the game totally has tons of bugs but its not unplayable, either enjoy it now or don't play til its done. Sorry man, but pissing and moaning about it right now gets us nowhere because until the official release date Wild Card doesn't owe you poop. I was stoked when they announced the expansion and was hoping to come on here to trade some tips n tricks and but instead I find this ludicrous cascade of caps lock tantrums complaning that Wild Card gave them dessert before dinner. Don't understand it. I for one friggin love this game and if you'd rather be a bitter, whiney party pooper than play the game, well then it seriously sucks to be you.

I Have to say something I been reading postings.

quit complaining because you have to pay for a expansion pack before the release. if you don't like it don't buy it.  I felt is was well worth the 20 I paid for it and I understand it takes money to pay a development team to keep enhancing the game. I don't mind paying for a dlc like this personally and was more then happy to buy it. this is my personal opinion from a customer and someone who plays Ark alot. I am just getting tired of people crying.

I said it before an i'll say it again you need some new material your like an heckler that still keeps heckling after the show has ended.

We and by we i mean the entire damn community know you dont like SE but it dont mean you have to reply to everyone who does love it and tell them you hate it we already know cause you have been repeating yourself since SE came out so please just give it one day where you dont spout the same SE sucks Wildcard lied to us.

As i agreed yes the price was a little too high but for what you get its worth it atleast for those who find the island and the center a walk in the park.

I agree, not common to release DLC that has to be paid for before the main game is finished. A total suprice! Yess we expected a update patch and not DLC. I was confused for some minuits ;-) I buyed it anyway and i dont regret it! It's a fine piece of soft, good for many 1000 hours of pleasure. 20 euro's is not nothing but compared to other games and what you get it's a fair price. I did some exploration on the map and overall i love it. What bothers me a bit is the vast spaces with nothing but sanddunes. It's a dessert, i know, but maybe some caves or grottes or other things to explore? But again, that is only my personal perception ;-). I love the many ruins on the map. What weird is that, if you run a nonofficial server you can spawn in all sorts of dinosaurs you want ;-). Did not tried the oposit yet but i gues it will be the same. I have read the article about why the dlc was released now and i understand it better now. Released earlyer so it can be better integrated with the Original map. For my part it's ok! Just want to know if there are more dlc comming in the near future? I hope so (but first this dlc pack must reach its number of copy's ;-)  ) I wonder what a new world could be? Maybe a waterworld with very few land? A whole submarine map with it's special adapted species? Underwater cities? That would be the max! I sure would buy it the first minuit after release. But please dont forget to fix the main game. I know the order: first the content and after that the bugs fixes and optimisation but sometimes it's a real pain to get the game running smouth after a patch ;-).

Keep up the good work! I played ark for nearly 5000 hours now so i guess thats telling something, no?

why would you guys design the expansion so everyone is kind of forced to cluster together in higher RNG wind zones? if you want real defenses those are the places to go because plant Y is utterly useless

This seems like false advertising and a little disappointing that right below the announcement of the release of scorched earth, the announce the primitive + and how it is compatible for all official ark maps. It is rather odd to me that scorched earth is not compatible with primitive yet so I did some research and found two different things on this matter. First was Jeremy talking about a balance check and another about how Cedric still need to text and make sure you can survive with such primitive stuff. Now although I do understand I don't see why they can't release it now since we can use the pre game menu to adjust just about every stat in the game or add some kind of a mud hut you can build to protect you or something. There are ways they could release it to the public now because so many comments I've read, people have refunded the game do to it not being available in primitive. Personally I really enjoyed the dessert and can't wait to play it primitively

Also I read on the Ark forms that both the addition to the center and primitive +/scorched earth compatability will be here by September so fingers crossed on that one
