    Aberration Release, Turrets, PlayAnywhere, Holidays, and Black Friday!

    Happy Tuesday, Survivors! Normally our news posts go out on Friday, but we've got some exciting and also important news to share today. Let's go!

    Aberration Release Date!

    We are excited to announce we have a release date for Aberration: December 12th of this year. 

    All of us here at Studio Wildcard have been working diligently to progress through the Aberration workflow in anticipation of getting it into your hands. Aberration will be an ARK experience unlike anything survivors have seen so far. We hope you are all as excited as we are for its release!

    Update on Turrets

    A few days ago we announced a big change to the game wherein we would be limiting the use of turrets within a radius on our Official Servers. We have been keeping track of all the feedback, reading all the threads, and we understand that this is an important change. Therefore, we'll be making some modifications to our initial plan in order to deal with the concerns that have arisen, as well as ensure a smoother transition to the new turret system for all players. Here's what's going down:

    We are no longer hard-limiting turrets on the 5th of December, that timeline has changed. We still plan to hard-limit them, but it'll be pushed further out now that we'll be introducing a new kind of turret into the mix. Here's the new plan:

    PC players can expect the new "Heavy Turret" on the 27th, it will launch with an active server-side turret limit specifically for "Heavy Turrets". We'll take the time to monitor player feedback and our official servers to see if there's anything that we missed, so then we'll have time to consider how to fix and address those concerns. This means that if you're over the visual limit on your regular Auto Turrets, you'll be fine (for now). However, you won't be able to place the Heavy Turrets, unless you're within the limit. We recommend taking advantage of this time to slowly transition your base to using the new Heavy Turrets over the old ones. 

    When Aberration releases on the 12th December, it will have the turret hard-limit enabled on that map from the get-go. This means that neither regular Auto Turrets or Heavy Turrets can be placed on Aberration above the limit. After some time -- likely in the latter half of December -- this change will be enabled on the other maps, however, we'll be providing 2 weeks notice beforehand so you can make any adjustments as necessary. The idea is that you can immediately use the Heavy Turrets in the meantime to prepare for the change while ensuring your base remains well-defended.

    Console players can expect to see the arrival of the Heavy Turret when the Aberration launches. By this time, the Heavy Turret would have gone through multiple balance passes. The reason we opted to take this route is that we want to make sure it's in a good state before it went live on the console. Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to rapidly iterate as we do on PC, due to the cert process. Console will ultimately follow the same hard-limit activation as PC, albeit several weeks after the hard-limit is activated on PC.

    So, more stuff to talk about with regards to turrets. It's a party and everyone is invited!

    We've had a couple of pow-wows and hammered a few more things into stone, I just want to share them in kind of an official capacity as well as do a round-up of everything you need to know if you're just tuning in:

    - We found and identified that super dense clusters of turrets have been causing our servers to literally grind to a halt. In the worst of cases, a base full of turrets was causing a 400-500ms per tick delay on the server. (The entire rest of the game only takes up about 240-250ms in the worst cases. This means the turrets were costing up to twice as much as the entire rest of the game per server tick.
    - We're implementing a limit on the number of turrets you can have in a given radius. This radius is 10,000 Unreal Units (Which is about 100 meters). Picture attached shows a 10,000 uu sphere for visualization.
    - New BobCorp Automated Laterally Attenuated Nano-Cell Electronic Defense system will be available on the 27th of this month on PC, to allow players to start replacing their existing turrets.
    - Heavy Turrets will require normal turrets to craft.
    - Heavy Turrets are currently designed to be about 4-5x as powerful as a normal turret.
    - Stego Armor Plating is being made much less effective.

    The above are things that are guaranteed to be happening when we roll out these turret limiting changes.

    Here is stuff that's on our list to test and consider further:

    - Veggie Cake balancing.
    - Tek Turret needs to remain top-dog turret.
    - Is there anything we can further do to lower the cost of each turret to allow us to safely increase the number that players can place.
    - Knockback for some/all of the bullet-firing turrets?
    - % health damage on tick for Plant Species? (Slow poison? Prevent healing?)
    - Throwing explosives from the backs of dinos? 
    - Can we further weaponize bees?

    We're still reading all of the threads that are up and as we decide we're /definitely/ going to do stuff, I'll write up another post about it. 

    Expect the new turret on the 27th, and then all of our intrepid community members can make builds with them and if there's anything that they find that we missed, yay we'll have time to consider how to fix those things as well.

    Note: Xbox and PS4 will not be receiving these turret changes until after Aberration has been released.

    PlayStation 4 SIEA (Americas) Season Pass Skins

    Great news guys! Sony has enabled the skins on the backend and they should be available for players to acquire in game! As Sony marks the Season Pass bonuses as DLC, players will need to head into the PlayStation Store via their console dashboard and download them (they're free!).

    Xbox Play Anywhere

    In addition to the Aberration update, barring any cert issues, Xbox will receive the Play Anywhere update on December 12th. This update will allow crossplay between the Windows 10 version of ARK and the Xbox version. Survivors will be able to choose to allow crossplay on their unofficial servers or non-dedicated sessions with a simple checkbox on the host menu. 

    Holiday Events!

    We'd like to wish all survivors out there a Happy Thanksgiving and hope that have a great weekend! As for our plans, we will not be hosting an event for Thanksgiving this year due to our efforts being focused on Aberration and getting it out in December. We apologise for the lack of event this time of year, we love hosting holiday events, but unfortunately, we just didn't have the time to do so. Though, with Christmas around the corner, you won't have to wait long for a special Christmas themed Holiday Event!

    While tek generator remains a poop,maybe get that poop fixxed aswell....talking mainly on SE

    In regards to further weaponizing bee's, while I like the idea of a Bee Grenade I feel thats more a user based offensive weapon similar to Half-Life's Snarks in a way.

    The other idea I had was that you could place a Beehive down  as a form of area denial turret and providing it was fed with flowers it could function as a primitive defense system for wandering interlopers. Like the turrets, anyone who crosses into it's radius sends out a wave of angry bee's to haress and ward off the aggressor, if the aggressor is persistent enough and actually manages to damage the hive or surronding buildings you own, it will send multiple waves of bee's out in response in an attack formation.

    Soooo pick up 5 normal turrets, stick them into a fabricator and hit the Craft Heavy Turret. Take Heavy Turret and put it back in the same spot.
    500 normal turrets go to 100 Heavy Turrets

    BTW the most turrets I've managed (when solo)  to make before being wiped and having them all destroyed/taken is 8.
    So whatever.

    The ammo will have to be just as expensive as crafting 4 to 5 times the AR rounds... Don't you agree?

    So you Read all the Feedback and u guys want STILL BRING THE NERF?! ARE U GUYS KIDDING ME?! Explain me Why WHY is my fps is going down when im in our eeg ley hous and Not when im infront of our TURRET Wall with over 800 turrets?! People dont care if ist lagging when all turrets shoot in the same Moment. This is raiding we all know that and can life with that. This Game change is far too heavy that your Game will survive this lol

    bring the patch... AND YOUR GAME GONNA DIE

    great to see a realease date and i love the trailer, On another note  now maby add some more servers to official cluster please. The server dino cap is frustrating, even more if you notice howmany legacy servers are up and howmany people actualy play on those. The eu has a bit over 20 official PVE servers , doubtfulll that is enough and i wonder how long it will take to cap them all and how long it will take to cap all those abberation servers when they launch.

    remember then the Stego was good for a month or two?... i remember that but seriously why take the one thing the stego had a use for.. a very niche use that requires the stego to be at a very certain angle to a turret.

    How about we also deal with the issues of lack of new servers , people buying the game cannot place buildings or tame or breed. You have tribes coming onto servers and using peoples servers as holding pens and whats worse is you are doing nothing at all people cheating and people who are blocking oblesks. Over 40 tickets have been sent in for pve island 207 and nothing has been done at all. Oblesks are being blocked by certain tribes who have placed pillers on half the map so noone can do anything and yet every ticket sent same copied and paste answer so why have rules at all?  Its not turrets causing the great amount of lag its the tribes who have 20 + brontos have you ever wondered why they have that many brontos and why your servers crash all the time? Then you have a problem with duping 1+1=2 .  Time and time again this has been brought up and each time you remove the threads about anyone posting anything negative. Pve and pvp is quite differn't.  If you look on pve we have the same issues as pvp and we dont have turrets . Now every oblesk is blocked by certain tribes you will be adding in new dl and run into the same problem again and again unless you enforce the rules you have stated are in the game. People see that wild card is not enforcing anything and its a joke to them.  Try fixing the problems you have going on now as you keep losing legit and hard working players or is that the goal? ........ Wer have asked time and time again check out these servers and same thing over and over and people glitching ice queen over and over so now 8 weeks since this is reported and not even looked into. So why have rules? why have devs and why offer support that is why 95% of the people came to the new servers for new dlc and in hope for support. Sorry just don't get it you brag about listening to the players seems that its selective.............................. btw where is s+ they stated during the stream for donations saying it would be out soon? as well as being said during pax event.  We are almost december. Amazing game going down the hole,..........

    They never said it would be out "soon", that is you putting words in their mouth.

    They stated that integration of S+ is in the very early stages as they need to decide and discuss with the S+ Devs what content from S+ will be integrated into vanilla ARK, what content will be enabled within the INI for unofficial servers, and what content will not be included at all, which would have to remain as a Mod maintained by the S+ Devs.

    Once all that is decided and finalised then they can start integrating it.

    actually when asked during event on twitch a couple people asked when it was coming out and was said soon this isn't putting word in there mouths as well they stated new dlc was going to be in october thank you. (example same thing when they stated bridges were coming out people were told to wait and wait, they just removed it instead). ps. forgot they also stated that legacy would receive support and last minute it changed to no support. As a customer/player I am just asking for a truthful answer and yes things can change in the game but some of those changes have huge consequences.

    Ok that's nice a new better turret but most of us are 100 and probably won't be able to mind wipe so we can learn that new turret. You planning on giving us at least one mind wipe so we can learn that new turret?

    buff the useless creatures as you did stego

    i like beans n such.

    lots of se creatures could become powerful ... morrelotops, thorny, useless currently could be godlike

    give them some defensive buff? bonus? 

     

    why does it have to be giga bronto rex stego , yawn...

     

    the moth could be the ONLY counter to griff

    I'm curious, are you on a LEGACY server? 

     

    If you are (and I'd double check) 

     

    There is no longer any support offered to legacy servers.

    With the new heavy turrets is it safe to assume they will be using the same kind of bullets as the normal turrets use, or can we expect to get a new kind of bullet for it. ? :)
