    A Message from the Founders

    Hello Survivors,

Jesse and Jeremy here! We know things have been a bit quiet on Genesis news for the past few weeks, even though there is much more to show you, we’ve been deeply immersed in the pre-release development process. That being said, we’re writing today to tell you that the final release date for Genesis Part 1 is now February 25th, 2020 simultaneously on all platforms.

This additional delay will no doubt come as a disappointment to everyone who is eagerly awaiting Genesis. We’re extremely sorry to push it back an extra month, but as we have been heads-down with the rest of the team polishing, balancing and putting the final pieces together, we really felt that the extra wait will be worth it both for the quality of the base game and the ambitious new expansion.

    Gen1_Lunar.png

The live ops team is taking advantage of the scheduling change by making sure we have a really fun Valentine’s event in store for you (something we originally planned to skip because it followed so closely behind the launch of the new expansion). Plus, we’ve just deployed an initial anti-meshing patch, and next week we will be rolling out a definitive anti-meshing logic overhaul that should fundamentally address those long-standing issues. As we look forward to a successful cross-platform launch of Genesis, all of this will make ARK substantially better for everyone who plays PvP and PvE.

    Gen1_Bog.png

On behalf of the broader Wildcard team, we thank you so much for your passion, creativity, feedback, and support. We are extremely thrilled to bring ARK’s next chapter to you, and are looking forward to a hugely exciting 2020! Meanwhile, here are some tasty new screenshots from ARK: Genesis Part 1!

    Jesse and Jeremy

    Anti-Meshing Efforts

Hey everybody! I’m WC_jellyknee, the lead Live Ops Engineer on the ARK team.

I wanted to tell you about our efforts to prevent cheating in ARK in general, and our continuing efforts to defeat undermeshing specifically. We're excited to get this post out in order to address the issue of meshing with the community and, also, to share news on how we will be countering meshing more aggressively moving forward via technical solutions. I'm going to start off by quoting from a previous developer diary:

    Quote

Undermeshing refers to the ability to get to where you aren't supposed to by moving outside of the playable space. Almost every game is susceptible to undermeshing in some form. Most speed runs rely on undermeshing, for example. It's effectively impossible to solve completely, at least automatically. The approaches taken to prevent it are usually a tradeoff between how much freedom you want the player to have, how complex your world is, and how much processing time you can afford to spend on physics. Generally, when there's an instance of meshing, it's caused by bad collision setup, improper level geometry (holes), or a problem with the algorithm used to move the character through the world. In some instances, you place kill volumes in locations that you want to guarantee that the player doesn't end up, but that isn’t a global solution.

When we lay out our levels - we construct them in the way that is interesting and optimize them for efficiency so that we can maximize quality and quantity. What that means is generally the world outside of the space you're meant to play in is empty - we spend our resources on the spaces where players are at. In addition - we reuse assets many, many times - rotating a rock different ways to make it look different before shoving it into the terrain at various depths to mask the reuse and keep it visually pleasing. Technically, the physics for these objects overlaps, and if you get past the surface of one, you'll stand on the next one down. While that sounds like it would help, it’s actually the meat of the problem. Adding more meshes doesn’t help, because once you can get past one, you can get past the next one. That said, there have been many instances where we’ve flagged the collision on an object incorrectly, or left a minute hole that we can and do address through Level Design.

You can read the rest of the developer diary here:

Undermeshing has been a thorn in the side of both players as well as the enforcement team, and a serious concern for the development team. To help mitigate this, we have further upgraded our anti-undermeshing system in order to help the enforcement team track down problematic map areas, as well as tracking down people who are breaking the ARK Code of Conduct.

This underlying system has been in place for a while now, gathering useful data, and we have been testing it to make sure that it works reliably. We wanted to make sure that it minimizes the amount of false positives - we don't want it to flag locations where players can get to during normal play

    image (11).png

Now that this system has been proven to be effective, we've now built another layer on top of it to take advantage of this data. I don't want to give specific numbers here because it can only help bad actors try to find new exploits, but I'll explain how this system works:

    1) If we detect a player undermeshing for a certain amount of time, it will teleport them to a valid position that they were previously at. It will then monitor that player for an amount of time.
    2) If the system finds that player undermeshing again within that time, or if it's not able to teleport the player to a previous position, then the player's character will die. Any items being carried will remain at that location.
    3) The system is aware of what the character is doing, and will take certain actions into account to help prevent player frustration.

The system, whilst in a state we’re confident will have an impact on limiting meshing, is in a state of ongoing development. We will continually make improvements and updates,  along with rolling out more definitive undermeshing-resolving changes in the next week.

While we continue to introduce new content and experiences to fans of ARK we will remain focused on ensuring that everyone has a fair playing experience on the Official Network.

By default, the anti meshing system will be on for the Official Network

For Unofficials, these launch parameters can be used:
-noundermeshchecking // Will turn it off the anti meshing system entirely
-noundermeshkilling // Will turn it off the anti meshing player kills (but still allow teleporting)

I'm perfectly fine with a delay. I'm very excited for the Valentine's event personally, I have a bunch of baby Dino's ready for 2x maturation rates. Maybe make the Valentine's event two full weeks in light of the Genesis delay. Ark is an awesome game and I appreciate all the hard work put into making it! ??

I rarely post, but felt the need after reading sooo many complaints!  Thanks for the update guys, truly appreciated! The complaints about a delay are stupid... I think Wildcard is finally learning from all of their past mistakes and this is a potential sign of it! Thanks for taking the time to do it right... we can wait!!

Note, if you mess up the release like has happened soooooo many times, that is what is truly unacceptable! I shouldn't be stuck, unable to play, because the windows 10 version failed and thus I'm unable to run my server for my Xbox crew!! Do it right this time! Please!

You can ask for a refund from the merchant you bought the game from. Sony, Microsoft or Steam.

It's funny to see that so many are upset and angry about a delay of a game/dlc.

Asking for refunds, telling this company is the worst.. etc etc...

And when the dlc finally releases, who will be playing?

All those people that asked for refunds :P

The Devs are absolutely ignorant and clearly does not care about any of the loyal fan base. I have been playing Ark since game preview and now have Atlas as well. I used to love the game and play it with friends and told them to buy the game as well. I got pretty advanced on ark and was starting to get tired if being raided by 20 Meks and their infinite supply of element due to dupping glitches and also just getting flat out mesh raided. For a while and recently we noticed it's actually impossible to build on any of the maps no matter how many turrets and how long you stay on we would still get raided and have to start fresh. Finally I've had enough if the glitches and duping so I decide to play the hiding game by buling tree forts and 1 mesh spot to store loot when offline or out of town. Finally for once since game preview I have been able to keep my loot for more than a week without being in the top alliance tribes which still get mesh raided or dupe mech raided. Now instead of realising new content or getting rid of dupes or nerfing the mechs you guys add random death barriers to (some) of the mesh points. Making meshing more toxic and unpredictable and now you can't even fight meshers back at all and on top of it all there is still mesh points you guys just screwed all the casual players who hide all what little loot they had and enabled bigger tribes to find still working mesh points. Which is still a thing. Why add a death barrier with no warning and absolutely waste everyone's time who knows how to keep what little loot they have safe. The big open mesh points still work too amd I literally have people meshed on my server on official and they didn't get a death barrier at their mesh but yet I get one? At least fix all the spots or maybe fix duping or duped mechs/ loot cause if you haven't noticed the only way you can survive now was in the mesh due to duping which was a glitch on your end so thanks for punishing the small guys I will NEVER spend money on WildCard or any game from them ever again and I litteraly lost a piece of my heart today this is actual bs! There is still players with hundredas of duped mechs, weapons, turrets and just overall loot. #Removethelastupdate #ReleaseGenisis #Stoplyingtothefans #Theyareinitforthemoney #Stoptargetingthesmallguys #wipetheduperstoo

    Dissecting this entire post:

    1. Meshing Fix

    2. Genesis delayed, but will be seeing massive improvement.

    3. A kick-butt valentines event.

    I like these odds.

@StudioWildcardI'm happy for the ongoing mesh fixes and the new protection. I don't mind a DLC being pushed back if it quality get's improved.

The only issues that are still top prio for me are lags AND griefers on PVE Extinction.

It's way too easy to attack someone on Extinction, you can even use corrupted pteras. I tested them on my own base, 3 lvl 15-25 pteras dealt insane amounts of damage to nearly every metal structure they attacked. People will find a hole in your defense, crack open your base and steal whatever they want.

The corrupted giga teleportation is also an ongoing problem if you have anything valuable in your base, people will come from your server or others, build 1 or 2 teleporters and start teleporting endless amounts of corrupted gigas to your base.

They monitor your on/off times just to steal from you. It's a big issue because you can make huge amounts of real money from some things.

Any other early access knew this was going to happen.  Every dlc, light even the port out of early access was delayed. It will probably be delayed again, just you see. At this point one expects it

This is to all the people hating on this. Would you rather it be early and horribly done, or late with amazing features and graphics, let that sink in. And at least there apologizing for the delay that's more that I can say for some games.

And two the developers I just want you to know that this is an amazing game and done listen to the haters, I think your doing a great job.

I've been telling everyone don't expect to see it till summer. I'm sure they will delay it again. Mabe this time they will wait till a day before instead of one week. Wild card has never released anything on time. Regardless of what "Reason" they give for a delay. The dlc will be buggy and glitchy even if they wait another year to release it. Its wild cards style. Been playing since launch and these are they patterns they follow. So dont believe them when they say "improvements", because it's never helped a delayed release in the past

At this point it’s hilarious that any people think that the extra month is going to give the expansion a “bug free” release as seen with there other maps and dlc here we are years later with many of the same problems if you want to fix the official servers here’s an idea get rid of them simple the player run servers always have better people managing them and again as for the delay and people both parties are right to a degree but the fact is never has a deadline been met it is understandable when you have a problem but they never tell us anything or a real reason why they delay just the copy and paste of “we’re just tweeting performance issues” It’s really sad I mean I genuinely think ark is one of the greatest games ever made but after the last few years of disappointing launches and release I just hope for everyone’s sake player and dev that they sell the licenses and company to someone competent at this point I’d take EA over wildcard but seriously epic, rockstar ,blizzard, Bethesda, THQ someone just not you guys it’s not that you have bad ideas just horrible follow through. You guys did a great job coming up with ideas but please let someone else actually implement them.

You must be new around here. Just wait, when it does get release, it will be broken, then it will be your turn to be salty and say, What? We waited and this is the end result?  ?

Lol what's funny is nobody is asking about part 2, since part 1 is coming a few weeks from spring. Does this mean part 2 will be summer or fall 2020, what is part 2 anyways? What's included in it?

Thrilled that I get to buy this game during the spring break sale on ps4 I bet it will be 50% off, and I bet they miss the 25th by at least 2 weeks lol.

I am Demanding a refund from this dlc. Absolutely Ridiculous.

    so suck it

If you’ve been here since SE then you should know first hand as that was the first paid dlc we got in early access an it was delayed twice before we got it so again you may have been “playing” buts it’s clear to see your still new when it comes to dealing with wildcard again you should have expected this if your such a vet player lmao
